Starlight Glimmer finally lived up her ideology, even she didnt realize it.

Well the director and cast always wanted to have her as a main character from the start, but they need hasbro to approve it who is covering their bases (we know this from Twitter). So she was forced into a supporting role to see how she worked out, but now with starlight being widely regarded as a fan favorite (aside from hardcore starlight haters,) with some of their higher rated episodes featuring her.

I didnt know any of that when i started this back and forth btw, it was bugging me so i did alittle digging last night was all.

So.... Technically, Starlight is not a merchandise-driven character by Hasbro (like Cadance) :fiery: its creative team WANT IT TO HAPPEN.

It isnt technically, thats exactly whats going on. Hasbro is getting in the way of this one. thats why she went from being very clearly introduced as the 7th at the end of season 5, to having no clear role in season 6, (which confused alot of fans btw,) to slowly being worked into the group in season 7. Her not being in the movie has nothing to do with any of this tho, they wrote and voiced that at end of season 4 - the middle of season 5.

After TWABA, i never thought she would be as big as she is now, i had a mindset like 'its Ok, just have her 1-2 episodes are enough to me, i didnt demand anything big' due to her divisive status last season and now i am very happy :fiery:

She doesnt need to be in the movie, its movie for mane 6, but it nice to see Starlight in movie animation.

I decided to do some myself after you said that thing about Jim talking about Starlight's role as a secondary character and not too much part of the group. One of the common complaints that she was made part of the group was they wanted to rush out an "inferior Sunset" due to her popularity. When Jim said no that was not the case he's absolutely right....in terms of Sunset's popularity.

The only truth could be they may have wanted a Sunset Shimmer in the show but all that would have already been decided before Rainbow Rocks, i.e. before DHX saw the reaction to Sunset Shimmer. It's all through simple deduction:

Josh Haber had "The Crystalling" script rough draft done November 2014, two months after RR premiered in September. So Starlight was already chosen to be a part of the group, but still maybe that two months was enough to get the reaction and hopon board. Except Haber also reformed her in the Season 5 finale, and according to Meghan Macarthy, scripts for a season are all turned in at once and then taken through the editing and animation process one by one so since the script for The Cutie Map was complete by July 2014 with an animatic already in productin(two months before RR premiered) that means the Cutie Remark script was also done (just not actually being produced yet) but the lines were all recorded since the actors and actresses record all their lines at once for all the episodes of the season and since the Cutie Map had lines recorded by July 2014 that means the Cutie Remark also had lines recorded by then as well, at least two months before Rainbow Rocks even premiered, so there is absolutely no way Starlight reforming was influenced by the reception of Sunset Shimmer.

*phew* that was actually really fun to piece together, I mean you can't argue tweets and interviews right?

So... The claim that Starlight is the 'clone' of Sunset Shimmer is debunked and their similarity in names and reformed status are just concidence? :ooh: Thanks for the info. My mind is at peace now. :proud:

Ehhhhh....not exactly regarding that one. Starlight Gimmer was purposely chosen that name (well Aurora Gimmer first as a reference to the nightime Aurora Borealis) because like Sunset Shimmer she was conceived as a foil to Twilight Sparkle. But since Sunset was Twilight's opposite in the Human world they needed one for the pony world well. It's all in this concept art. "clone"-no of course not. Concept of being the magical opposition for Pony Twi for the show to pull an EQG1, just in the pony world and with a more convincing villain, that isn't a stretch. I mean Macarthy worked on both so she probably had these opposing characters in opposing worlds planned from the start.

Well the ratio of the mane group before twilight became an alicorn was 2 earth pony, 2 unicorn and 2 pegasus. When twilight asended she threw off that ratio. so i dont think its a coincidence that they added another unicorn to both shows.
