What do you think the Rotten Tomatoes score will be?

Let's play a little game: based on the trailers and existing reviews, what do you think the Rotten Tomatoes score for the movie will be? High, or low?

I think anywhere between 60-80%. Obviously, the movie is not gonna appeal to everyone, but the fandom is so big now, that may effect the ratings a little bit. I haven't read the reviews too much yet, so I'm thinking my guess is a little biased.

68%, similar to the first SpongeBob film. Obviously, anything above 83-ish is way too high - I could possibly see it going as low as 44, but no lower than that. Judging from early fan reactions and the trailers...yeah, 68 sounds pretty accurate.

You mean the multiple reviews giving it 80+ scores?

You may very well be write, but early reviews are all positive so far.

My original prediction was 70% but after all the early positive reception from fans and non fans, I think it will be 80-85%

Judging from local presses and the almost unanimous praise it's been getting from non-fans ... 86% is a good bet.

I have yet to come across a negative non-fan review from the US market. Not a one.

For whatever it's worth, he did say in the comments that the songs, which he dismissed as forgettable "pop songs", began to grow on him on Spotify. Whether or this is actually the first time he heard them, or he really did see it and warmed up to it, I will take no more part in.

MLP has a large bias AGAINST it so I won't be surprised if general audiences hate bomb it early on.

But in the long run I think it's a safe bet to say the score will come to rest somewhere between 50% and 70% both with critics and general audiences

I don't know about any one of you all but I personally have disliked a lot of the trailers that have been released for the movie. I don't know what it is but I don't like what I see, I don't like how short the ponies are, I don't like the dialogue or songs in said trailer, I am having a REAL hard time accepting the anthro characters. The art style while stunning is so different from the show that I am actually struggling to buy that this is even based on the same thing I mean clearly it is but it's looks so different... a little too different.

But despite all the doubts I have I am still going to see the movie and give my thoughts... somewhere

If critics bomb hate MLP it will be extremely unprofessional, I can see the audience score tanking though.

I was going to say not higher than 70%, but everyone is saying that early reviews are all positive, so it could go higher than that when all is said and done. I still don't see it going higher than a 75% but that is still pretty damn good all things considered.

Probably like 40-50% knowing Rotten Tomatoes and how they love to just take a dump on movies that aren't Disney or Marvel.

Blade Runner and Wonder Woman are now Disney Properties. Huzzah!!!!

Currently the general audience has (and this shocked me too) been more glowing about it than fans. Yep, I've counted more Bronies that don't like the film that the regulars. Go figure.

Actually, I expected this fully. Newcomers don't tend to hold MLP up to the same lofty standards as fans do, and those who go in with expectations lower than dirt are more likely to be impressed with what they find. It's how this whole fanbase started, and now it's likely to draw in new admirers the same way.

At the very least some genuine respect for the property. A tacit, "Oh ... so I kinda get why it drew in adults."

sadly.

there is kind of a trend in the reviews up on rotten tomatoes; the critics who seem to have gone in with a blank slate for the series tended to view it well, while those who admitted going in with preconcieved notions of it due to the brand name tend to have low opinions of it.

Does any one have any explanation for why the initial critical reception was overwhelmingly positive, but the more recent reception has been more negative? I don't think that's a trend unique to this movie. My current hypothesis is that the critics who had positive preconceptions about the movie saw it earlier as they actually wanted to see it, whereas those with more negative preconceptions waited a bit before they came in, and then people ended up conforming to their preconceptions. The current approval rating is similar to wanted to see it ratio, so I think it makes sense.

I'd describe the film's reception being more mixed to positive than negative at this point.

In general movies tend to draw more negative reception over the weeks following release.
