Japanese mythological creatures in the show

Unless they actually take a trip to the far east (or Neighon as it is in several head cannons), not likely. The campfire stories arc was the first tiem we've ever seen any reference to Japanese culture.

In fact, I'm creating an OP that's based on a Spike-like variation of the Oni.  Also, an Orochi-based villain would rule.

Really?  I thought that was referencing ancient China.  I could be mistaken though.  I really should study ancient Japanese history more.  Or just Japanese more so I could read that manga I brought back from Japan and enjoy those games I brought back too.

Anyways, this isn't the first thread I've seen on the subject and it may not be the last.  However, I just don't see it happening.  Adopting the large eyes of Japanese media into the art style of the show is one thing, but I think Greek and other European mythology is the focus in this series.  It's possible more Asian themed mythology could be incorporated...such as with Mist Mane, but I'm sure Japanese mythological creatures would probably only be seen outside of Equestria's borders.
