Seem to recall that Cheddar has lost its geographical designation and become a generic, but claiming something is irish without it being made in ireland is still blocked.

I'm pretty sure the Irish are making it, but as Cheddar recipe. But it's the incongruity that amuses me – also, that it's coming from Germany! It's in my fridge ... but why via Germany? .. :D

No idea. the Germans have their own cheese traditions, and really woudln't want to adopt Irish ones.

Never could understand the french though - if cheese goes runny or moldy, I throw it away, I don't charge *more* for it.....
