heavens-champion 1,905 November 14, 2017 Share November 14, 2017 Why do Amerophobes insist on immigrating to America if they hate it so much? Wouldn't they feel more comfortable in their homelands than in a country they assume to be the worst thing to happen since the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs?

VengefulStrudel 1,491 November 14, 2017 Share November 14, 2017 Are there really that many immigrants with anti-USA views moving there? I have not heard of them, and neither have I ever heard my American friends complain about such people. To me, the ones that do seem to be a tiny, tiny minority. If anything, I've heard much more about American citizens who have anti-USA views, especially in recent times. Anyway, even if anti-USA immigrants do end up moving there, it most likely has nothing to do with comfort, but opportunity. The United States is pretty much the place to go if you want better chances at finding a job and getting a better pay. A low-paying job in the USA could pay more than a decent-paying job in their native country. Take mine for example (even though most of us here have a positive view of the US), many Greeks move there and to Canada, then send money back home to help support their families. Also, perhaps the USA has access to other amenities that their native country does not, or they consider it a safer place to live in. 5 Check out my art thread for some cute ponies, cookies and boops. Steve Piranha 29,428 November 14, 2017 Share November 14, 2017 In the ghetto I used to live in, there was a considerable amount of amerophobes. Expected much of the same since I've moved to Orlando, but that hasn't been the case Sig by Discords
Ivan The Adorable 304 November 14, 2017 Share November 14, 2017 There aren't a lot of first generation immigrants whatsoever who take strongly anti-American views. Most are apolitical, keep their heads down, and try to work to be allowed to exist. Subsequent generations are more vocally upset at being treated as garbage throughout their lives by bigots in their country of birth or upbringing. I wonder why. Big mystery that living with shitty assholes growing up disillusions you. Protesting ill treatment isn't anti-Americanism though. It's part of trying to improve the society you live in.
Feather Spiral 1,892 November 23, 2017 Share November 23, 2017 @PathfinderCS methinks this belongs in Debate Pit (I mention you because I recognize your avatar and I don't know how to look for a list of other staff members) Anyhow, I doubt people who hate America would move there, for the same reasons you pointed out - they wouldn't knowingly go someplace they believe to be the worst. For one who moves from a poor and/or unsafe country to Europe or North America, these countries must feel like paradise. It's more likely their (grand)children, who grew up with the amenities and comforts of the West, who start voicing unhappiness about the downsides. Sometimes it's legitimate complains and constructive criticism, sometimes it's just petty and even made-up "issues". For all they know, their ancestral country might be even deadlier and treat their citizens even worse (and for the record, that doesn't change a thing about the aforementioned legitimacy or lack thereof).
