Today, Major League Baseball has announced that at the end of the 2018 season, the Cleveland Indians of the American League Central division will discontinue the use of their so called "Chief Wahoo" logo on their uniforms and caps. Here's a picture of the controversial logo.

This logo dates back to the late 1940's. MLB comissioner Rob Manfred is quoted as saying "Major League Baseball is committed to building a culture of diversity and inclusion throughout the game. Over the past year, we encouraged dialogue with the Indians organization about the club's use of the Chief Wahoo logo. During our constructive conversations, [Indian's Owner] Paul Dolan made clear that there are fans who have a long standing attactment to the logo and its place in the history of the team. Nontheless, the club ultimately agreed with my position that the logo is no longer appropriate for on-field use in Major League Baseball, and I appreciate Mr Dolan's acknowledgement that removing it from the on-field uniform by the start of the 2019 season is the right course."

The Indians will focus on the Block C as their main logo when the discontinuation goes into effect.

Even without taking the mascot's blatant racism into consideration, it was a fugly logo, so I can't say I care that they're getting rid of it

Hmmh, I'm surprised that sports teams have recently been acting more rationally and equitably than many politicians... Great news for a change, some things belong only to the pages of history books.

If it's necessary to generalize, ridicule and antagonize people with particular inheritance and appearance in order to have symbols for teams, at least try to be creative and distinctive.

They could change the name to "Rednecks" and use some southern truck driver with wide teeth gap, horseshoe mustache and mullet as the new logo. Because "how could it be offending, it's just a picture?" Hell, I have even battle cry ready for the fans: Go Rednecks! Yuk, yuk yuk!
