Crystal Ponies and Spike

Wonderbolt Slipstream

Recommended Posts

So, this is just a random thought in my head. Would Spike ever think about (and possible go through) with eating Crystal ponies? Now this might seem morbid (which it is, I'm not gonna lie) but when you think about it, Spike (and I assume most dragons) like eating gems and the crystal ponies aren't like normal ponies, they are completely see through, like gems. It's not hard for Spike to put 2 and 2 together, and when you think back to his gem addiction problem it's not hard to see how this could play out. Of course there are a number of problems, but I want your guys thoughts on this.

Well I don't think that he would, seeing as he has some sense, decency and morals abouts him. But if he wasn't the Spike we knew, and was a wild dragon, I don't see what would stop him from just eating ponies or any other creature in general.

Of course, you have to think of it this way----are they really made out of crystal/gems or do they just appear that iridescent? That's the thing. Because you've noticed that in other episodes, they lost that iridescence ....so to me it appears to be more of a glamour type of thing, just appearance only, not an actual gemstone. That would be a little... not flesh and blood, don't ya think? ; )

That's true, still kinda doesn't make sense on how they're so see through-y

are you sure you don't mean Crystal Empire?

I think you are a few seasons too late and your knowledge on dragon lore is outdated. I mean wow. Do you even know the character of Spike?

if you meant Torch, then no, but he and others would eat the buildings, otherwise, no.

I'm just having fun speculating. I'm not trying to be super serious on the subject, only a little serious on the science of it, of course Spike would never eat the crystal ponies, Twilight or the other ponies of the  mane cast would stop him somehow.

So now Spike is a savage, nice save there.

All I got from you was, good pony stop evil stupid dragons, Neighsay would love you!

Where on earth are you getting from his words that Spike is a savage? I think you're looking for a fight when he isin't. He is only speculating something about the show and meaning no harm. Why don't you just simmer down a wee bit, yes? There's no need to get angry. Spike is my favourite character and I am certainly not offended by his innocent question. I think you're looking for insult where there is none.

@Slipstream95And to answer your question about how so see-through? Well, magick, simply put. Magick can make any number of illusions. They just appear to be crystalline and see-through, but really aren't. Solid if you touch them, I'd wager too. Science is a wonderful thing, and I am a great purveyor of said Science. But when it comes to more magical realms, you gotta pull out your D&D mind, your Tolkien mind----and realise that there are some magicks that just aren't explainable by science.

Also, if you want to be more realistic.... while I myself adore dragons @Karnak I am not going to ignore the fact that some are indeed quite violent and love to hunt down and prey upon humans or livestock. While some are of high intelligence and can speak human/otherkin/elf language, some are more animalistic. Even the intelligent ones need to eat and unless excplicitly stated in the lore that they ONLY eat gems, it's safe to say that a creature with claws and flesh rendering teeth does eat meat. Circle of Life and all that. But this is only MLP and certainly they are not going to make a character openly that carnage-centred. So I would not take this conversation that seriously.

My biggest issue is the dragons here are treated as having a kingdom, which makes calling them animals(like Dumb ones) an insult, but that's the writers fault, not his so I apologize.

I still don't know if your upset here is justified. Hate is quite a strong word for something this dismissive.

As I said, even Dragons in all of your well known fantasy genre's including, well let's use Smaug! From The Hobbit. Highly intelligent, yet very bloodthirsty and wouldn't bat an eye to consume humans, animals, elves, dwarves, what have you---just because something can feel emotions doesn't mean it will automatically be good. Even humans are a good example of that ^^;;. This isn't speciesism, not even close. It's merely understanding Dragons in general. Like people, not all Dragons are the same. You have your good, you have your bad.

The writers themselves, now, correct me if I'm wrong, because my memory is fuzzy on it----didn't ever really mention what the Dragons ate did they? Other than gems? Or is it just gems? If so, I don't see what the issue is. It has been established they only eat gems. Good, we can move on. But if, and I'm going to say a big IF.... we wanted to be more realistic with it, and actually put the MLP universe into that more adult scope----it does make sense for some Dragons out there to feed upon ponies and other creatures.

Otherwise----where does the fear from them come from? Why would you fear something you knew that you could always talk out of eating you? Or why would you fear something that doesn't want to eat you in the first place? Obviously Ponies in the MLP fear Dragons, so there has to be some reason for it. Whether the fear of the destruction they can cause OR/AND that they are also carnivorous and would eat them.

But all in all, I think it's safe to say, that the Dragons, unless otherwise stated, in the MLP universe, eat only gems, and Hasbro will not put a blood-thirsty Dragon(s) into their series.

You win man, I concede.

Though I prefer Flight of The Dragons, now that is good dragon lore!

MLP writers, take notes.

Now that is a series I haven't read! I'm a D&D fan of old and Tolkien, obviously as they are the two biggest points I used. What is Flight of the Dragons about?

It's an animated film, with James Earl Jones voicing the villian! The mythology is great, and dragon culture is actually shown well, again The MLP writers are not smart, I'm sorry but Dragon Quest is the worst and those bullies

The person who designed them needs go back to school.

No bully looks like that, nobody had those hair style anymore, if they were humans in real life, THEY would be the ones getting bullied, I stand by that, I don't care if I hurt the episode writers feelings, it's her fault.

But we are getting off the subject, back to Flight Of The Dragons, I believe it's on YouTube right now and it does pay a bit of tribute to D@D so it might be up your ally.
