The Mane 6 Were Based Off of the Greek Pantheon???

As we all know, the majority of things in My Little Pony are based on mythology. Most of this mythology comes from Greek mythology. Even Equestrian culture and architecture comes mainly from the ancient Greeks.

So I was watching Twilight's Kingdom when it came to me. The Mane 6 are based on the Greek pantheon of gods. Even some of the ponies outside the Mane 6 are inspired by the Divine Family, it's genius, really.

Now I may sound crazy, but here me out! I obsess over this sorta thing, no joke.

If you don't know, the Greek Pantheon can be found down below.

I want to start with Chronos/Kronos

Son of Gaea and Uranus, Kronos was the God of Time, as the name suggests. He had the ability to manipulate time and space, among other things. He was said to hold much knowledge and divine power. It is for this reason that I claim Twilight is based on Kronos, for she is the embodiment of magic (even if Kronos tried to eat his own kids).

Now, let's start with Rarity. I know she's a Titan, but I declare Rarity to be the personification of Aphrodite. Aphrodite is the goddess of love and beauty (also procreation, pleasure, and prostitution, which was legal at the time in Greece, but we won't get into that). I think Rarity exhibits these traits perfectly. Just like Aphrodite, Rarity is the embodiment of female empowerment.

Onto Rainbow Dash, I believe she represents Zeus. This isn't just because of RDs abilities and lightning bolt-shaped cutie Mark, but because of Zeus' backstory. Zeus had to risk his life to save his siblings from the belly of his father, Kronos. If that isn't the most loyal thing ever, I don't know what is.

Next, my adorable widdle waifu, Fluttershy. She is Persephone, the Queen of the Underworld. I know, it sounds silly for her to be the Queen of Hell, but hear me out. Persephone was in a situation where she pretty much had no choice but to marry Hades and become his queen. But her mother, Demeter, was too upset to let her go, so Fluttershy, er Persephone, made a deal with Hades. She told him that she'd marry him, but the only if she could return to Olympus to see her parents for six months every year. It was very kind and considerate of her to offer this. Hence, Fluttershy.

Now, Applejack. She is obviously Athena, I didn't even have to think about this one. Athena is the goddess of Strength and Warfare. More notably, Honor, Justice, and (by extension) honesty. This is the picture of AJ, folks.

Last, but certainly not least, is Pinkie Pie. Oh Pinkie Pie, you were a challenge, you damn enigma...

Any who, after giving it some thought, I have come to the conclusion that Pinkie is... HEBE!!!

Hebe is the goddess of youth, Roman equivalent, Juventas, which rooted the word Juvenile. That just describes Pinkie in every sense. It was even said that Hebe never aged, and stopped growing at the peak of womanhood, i.e. a teenager. Pinkie PERSONIFIED!!!

So what do you think? Were the Mane 6 based off of the Divine Family? Do you think my assumptions were inaccurate? Voice your thoughts down below, and tell me what you think of this theory.

I don't know, it's a possibility but seems a bit stretched to me.

Now, my thoughts about the mane 6 and greek gods:

- Dash seems to be much more like Hermes than Zeus.

- I see a lot of similarities between Twilight and Athena, maybe more than Applejack with the goddess. Especially with Athena's 'goddess of wisdom' title.

- For AJ I would go with Demeter, although I also see the similarities with Athena.

Rainbow Dash would be Nike (Victory) and Rarity would be Tyche (fits Generosity) or Charis (Creativity). Pinkie would be Dionysus, and Twilight at least fits Hecate through her element. AJ is Aletheia (Truth), and Fluttershy would be Charis if you stick with Tyche for Rarity since Charis was also connected to nature. 

 

Everyone goes for the well known gods.

Where'd you get Dionysus for Pinkie??? Dionysus is the god of the grape vine, non? Am I missing something? Sorry, it's been forever since I've worked with the Greek Pantheon, much less acknowledged it. Until recently, that is. Apollo has piqued my interest.

Nah, I doubt it. Sure, there's a few parallels between them, but I'm 100% sure you can draw equally many parallels between the mane six and, say, the Egyptian pantheon.

Wouldn't Mercury be a better fit? I mean, they're both supernaturally fast and they're both a bit of trickster. 

Also, Zeus was everything but loyal. Just ask Hera.

It was Zeus who made that compromise, not Persephone. I mean, Persphone had eaten the food of the underworld, so she wouldn't be able to make such a deal.

Athena was more of a goddess of wisdom, and while I certainly won't make the claim that Applejack is stupid, I don' think she's intelligent enough that one can make the claim that she's inspired by Athena. 

Also, I could be wrong here. But isn't it Dike who is the god of Justice and Honor? Like, I wasn't able to find anything that suggests that Athena filled that role.

It seems to me that all these gods are the embodiments of certain archetypes, and so are the Mane 6. So you are right in a sense, but I'm sure similarities can be found in other pantheons too.

I can see where you're coming from but I can also see the reasons why people don't agree with you. 

Perhaps they just based some aspects of each of their personalities on the Greek gods?

Like I said, I haven't been around the topic of the Greek gods in awhile now, so I'm a little off my game.

As for Applejack and Athena, it seems we use different correspondences. I never saw Athena as a goddess of intelligence. To me, she's the goddess of war and justice. I suppose I can't say she's a goddess of honesty, but I took a turn on the Justice part, and I think that, by extension, that would constitute honesty.

Nah, Athena's main role have always been the goodness of wisdom. True, she's also a war goddess, but even then she was more focused on strategic warfare rather than brute strength.
