The irony of the fandom

Maybe the show’s positive world reminds negative people what’s lacking in their lives, and it’s a big escape/life goal. It was my case at least, when I lived in a piece of shit ghetto

Not particularly. Mainly because this is Earth, not Equestria. There is a very stark contrast.

Guess that's what happen when a show meant for innocent children is enjoyed by adults. You kind of grow into pessimism after facing the unique hardships of adult life. But maybe that's the reason so many of us love it. Personally speaking, it gives me a lot of relief to see such innocent optimism and joy-- the kind only a child knows. I forget what that's like sometimes.

A fantasy world isn't the same as real life. Pessimism in this fandom is to be expected as you find it in all fandoms.

But how do we know this is true information? I've never heard of such. To be honest, I think this fandom has a fair balance of optimistic and pessimistic people, with the pessimistic people being louder and more noticeable. The same can be said of any other fandom.

It's inevitable that any community would have it's fair share of people who are just dicks to everyone and hate everything. Though you usually the guys over on /mlp/ do it for the memes, they usually are some of the worst when it comes being cynical.

Given the timing of this thread being created, I think it's mostly about the gloom and doom surrounding con shutdowns and a show cancellation on the horizon, rather than a more general pessimistic outlook. Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I saw it.

Either way though, pessimism is an inevitability if your idea of a perfect world is radically different from the world you have to live in. If that's what this is about, I don't find it ironic at all. And really it's a good thing, as long as it leads to action instead of helplessness. Nobody ever changed the world for the better without first being incited by a sense of dissatisfaction.

Why the overgeneralization? Just because a few people in the fandom are pessimistic doesn't mean they all are.

The irony is real!

I am an upbeat person, and I got quite downbeat by the Brony fandom in early 2010 for attacking my favorite MLP show. They did everything to make older generations look like crap. And I feel G5 fans will do the same to G4, so brace yourself!

Nope. Pessimists have a secret love for cute, happy things. If the real world can't be like that we can at least imagine stuff like that.
