Does the fandom still like the Mane 6 even today in 2018?

Of course the fandom still likes the Mane 6. If they didn't, they wouldn't still be making great fanart of them and citing one of them as 'best pony'. The issue of whether or not they've finished their character arcs is debatable, but regardless, that's not going to stop people from loving them. And especially if G5 flops, they'll love the Mane 6 more than ever, that's for sure. :P Whatever shift in the majority of fans' perspective of the Mane 6 is definitely not from a place of hatred, they're just enjoying seeing new stories about other characters.

That said, you may feel differently from me, but I actually won't mind if they start drifting away from the Mane Six and start focusing on newer or BG characters- the Student Six, the Pillars, Thorax, Sunburst, Ember, whatever. It gives them time to keep expanding this world while keeping a sense of continuity with the previous seasons. Even then I'm sure the Mane Six could take a role as teachers throughout Equestria, just as they've done in the past with the map missions and the friendship school.

What you would have to worry about is them becoming irrelevant once G5 rolls around...rumor has it it's going to be a hard reboot.

I'm fine with that, or even moving away from Ponyville entirely. There's so much more to be explored that a reboot is completely unnecessary. Different location, different time period, whatever. And I just finally got around to meeting the Student 6 today. I thought I wasn't going to like the whole friendship school idea, but I fell in love with all of them immediately. I couldn't stop smiling. It really reminded me of when I saw the first few episodes of MLP. There's plenty that could be done with them in the future or do something else entirely, but I think they're proof enough (to me anyway) that the Mane 6 don't have to be the engine that is powering this thing. It'd still be good if they made a new show with a different title though, just because it stands a better chance at bringing in new blood. The only other problem I see is that the level of diversity, while there's nothing logically wrong with it, from a marketing standpoint, it makes it much harder to keep the brand name. It's more like "My Little Critter" now.

About the G5 spoilery aspect though...

Ehh... actually it's bad if what I heard is accurate. That the Mane 6 will still be around but rebooted as well. That's actually worse IMO than starting out with entirely new ponies. I don't want to see them get butchered, J.J. Abrams-style. :(

Just because other characters have stepped up to the plate and obtained a lot of development doesn't mean that the Mane Six are no longer relevant in the eyes of both the fans and the show staff. If anything, I'd say the Mane Six are as popular as ever if not more than they were in the past. Besides, I doubt that FiM would be able to hold its own without their presence leading the way.

Yeah, as much as I have my doubts about the very concept of a friendship school (and the premiere, which I'm sure you guys are tired of hearing about from me :P), I've definitely fallen in love with the Student Six. Sure, they fit into their own tropes (the Genki Girl, the shy girl, the clumsy strong girl, the cool dude, and the rebellious 2kool4skool types), but they're definitely interesting characters that seem to have a lot of stories to tell just with them alone.

I especially agree with the title, though, because, as much as I want FiM to keep going while focusing on different characters (as they have with, for instance, Starlight and Trixie), the title wouldn't quite fit the show anymore; they'd either have to keep the focus somehow on ponies (or make Sandbar the leader or something), or, like you said, rebrand the franchise, which is almost certainly not going to happen. :(  Still, there's tons of potential left with these characters and others, and I hope the writers keep tapping into that potential for as long as they can keep this going.

Yeah, I'm aware that the mane six themselves are getting rebooted. Hence why I said "hard reboot"...same names, same designs, but at the same time different "characters" in a different continuity. Not the way I would've preferred it to play out, but I can definitely understand why from a business standpoint- these six have become the face of the franchise and Hasbro will want to capitalize on that while building up a new world.

I already imagined what it's like if everyone stopped caring about the m6 or if they were written off.

It already feels heartaching. I'm crying a bit when I think this.

So are my feelings wrong about this?

I mean, you can go ahead and tell me I'm wrong.

Yes, this fandom still loves/likes the Mane 6! Without the mane 6, there would be a whole different story to be told. It's been 8 years since this show has been aired and have known the Mane 6, as this show progresses, there's more characters to come as others develop.

Not at all. I'm always going to love them with every inch of my heart. But they also can't carry the story forever. That doesn't mean they need to disappear completely. But new legends can rise up, inspired by their example. Like Star Trek TNG as it is connected to the original series. Let them have cameos, keep them around, and even have an epic showdown where they help the new protagonists in a similar fashion as the Pillars did with them.

The alternative is to see the Mane 6 rebooted, and that is going to hurt WAY more than if they take a backseat and let new characters take the lead. I've been through this before in a couple fandoms, so I know what I'm talking about. A reboot will be like putting our beloved characters through a meat grinder and spitting the result back out at us. I don't want to see this beautiful universe lost to nearsighted thinking, when there is enough content there to keep this dream going forever.

@BornAgainBronyFrom my last post, I think I was focusing less on what to do with them in the future and more of my emotions about the matter.

I'm just scared that everyone else is right about the M7/8 being completely irrelevant now and that they need to be disposed of somehow.

But on the other hand, I'm done with listening to those thoughts already.

I'm going to say this firmly: the M7/8 are truthfully still relevant and loveable, whether people like it or not.

And I don't care much at the moment of what you said should or could be done in the future. I'm focused on the present, because it should be the only thing that matters. Not the past or future. On a side note, I never watched Star Trek in my entire life, so I cannot relate to how you felt in that example.
