Tumblr to ban adult content starting December 17th

Again, they're not fixing a thing. Porn bots have been, are, and will be an issue long after the ban until the site dies. Which is soon. So, they're trying to kill a house fly by blowing up the house with C4. And the house belongs to Tumblr. Oh, and the fly is the CP and porn bots, which will live on.

Even if you don't care about the porn, you should at least be a bit concerned about the message this is sending. And it's important to make a big enough fuss over this so no other websites decides to do the same thing. 

But that's not why they're doing it. 

And even if it were, Tumblr has already permanent safe search filter on so it's impossible to access blogs with "adult content" if you're under 18. 

I think we a bit overreacting here..fearing if the other website will do the same? I hardly doubt it, especially if these alternative website are solely for fan-service. Or better yet, just google search "porn".

Exactly. Although I would disagree about the magazines having no value. I'm not into porn magazines but I do know some people who don't mind wasting money to get these magazines especially  if they are "collector edition" like playboy's for example.

I feel like we're not on the same page here. 

The issue isn't that they're removing porn,  it's that they do so because they can't be arsed to properly moderate the content in question. 

And I'm a bit worried that if people don't voice their dislike for this kind of behavior, other websites will realize that they also don't need to properly moderate their content and that should they ever run into a problem as a result, they can just remove anything vaguely related to said content and call it a day.

People can voice their disapproval or whatnot. But I'm saying the ideal of porn or other adult content like violence being wipe off in the face of the web is a bit far fetch... again, it just one website. People can be creative in finding porn/violence elsewhere.

Right, but again I'm not worried that this will lead to some sort of purge of adult content of the internet. I'm worried that if people take this lying down, then other people will adopt a similar style of moderating.

It really doesn't. Like, if they can't ban child porn properly on it's own (which would be weird since seemingly every other website is capable of it), then why would they have a bigger success rate by removing porn in its entirety?

If you aren't already aware, the software tumblr uses is hilariously bad at distinguishing what's porn and what isn't, which has led to a lot of sfw fanart and such to get flagged. In fact, IIRC it even flagged the post in which the Tumblr staff announced this ban as nsfw.

So this whole thing was actually because of the sesta/fosta bill that was signed into law back in April.

This will censor most porn on the internet, drawn or otherwise. You won't even be able to say "I'm gay" because of the sexual connections. The law is so broad that sites will ban anything out of paranoia. All under the guise of shaky "moral decency."

Is it just me or I still find this far fetch.. "getting rid or porn on the internet" tell me if this sound ridiculous.  Well if it's true ( which it's won't be successful  within a day and everything be back to normal the next) , again porn magazines is still on the shelf if anyone is still interested.

I think I heard a while back that the law wants to remove with people admitting their sexuality, that was four years ago. So anyone who is into NSFW shouldn't be worry at all. Because if they're going to remove any of adult content, must as well  ban the strip club.

Cool, except that the software they're using to flag porn flags everything from sfw fan art to blogs talkig about lgbt+ issues so it should bother you regardless if you like seeing sexual content or not.

Things will probably go well again in the end anyways, so I'm still not concerned. We'll have to see how it all turns out though.

Everyone here should realize that any kind of deviance can be declared NSFW. Rule 34 could be wielded to turn anything into a sexual taboo and then use it as an excuse for banning. Affection for pastel ponies? Banned. They're basically trying to force Pleasantville on the internet. In fact, the very initial rise of Bronies could've been stopped dead in its tracks were it happening now, just based on assumptions on what it was "really" about. Any time something comes up that the status quo doesn't understand, they immediately jump to conclusions about sex this and sex that. Liking item X --> homosexuality --> pedophelia --> bestiality --> City of Sodom 2.0 --> we need to stop it before the Almighty nukes the country because of it. The people who decide these kind of things suffer from an acute inability to discern between one thing or another. All they know is different is automatically bad and a threat to... polite society... or something.
