Looking back, it is regretful that Disney didn't invest even more money into its brand of Star Wars. All such efforts greatly contribute to a brighter future of entertainment 3Y6uKBJ.png

They invested plenty of money, they just needed to invest a lot more effort.

I'm not arguing against your opinion, nor turning this into one, I'm want to add my intake on this

I think people should't worry too much of new trilogy ruins 45 years of SW. I think that a bit over the top. I mean what do they mean by that honestly? It's like saying putting in something new could ruin the original? If you can see that, that's fine. But I honestly cringe to that  whenever fans goes about saying something like that.  If anything, I think Disney thought maybe bringing in the old can make the fans happy. But instead that backfired on them. Putting too much focus just for the sake of "nostalgia" just complete screw over new story and characters that they have made to offer on the tables. I think the complete opposite here. I think they utilized  the old character very well, even when they have to kill them off. They all have earn their places and have done enough to make it feel, "okay this is the end for them".  What more do you want these actor/actresses? Harrison Ford said he's done and want to be killed. And Carrie fisher passed away in the middle of the projects. People should realized that and respect that.

Now for Lando, yes I'm disappointed they didn't utilized him at all. They just want to put him there because again, "nostalgia". With no plan how to use his character for TROS. I don't understand about this problem where people  complains about thinking its screwing the old characters over just to make wave for the new characters. I mean isn't that the whole point of the movie? introducing new story and characters? giving them the spotlight? If not, then why the hell do they need to make a new trilogy then? They might well make a reboot of the OT.  It’s also invalid to keep saying Kylo is like Vader 2.0 when he’s a actually reverse version of Vader. Or Hux is Moff 2.0. Or First Order is a 2.0 Empire. Or Trio 2.0 to the OT trio All the 2.0s is BS. Maybe for once, stop inserting these new characters into these old ones in a false hope that it will bring nostalgia. And see them as individuals different new characters.

I want to applaud Jhonen (invader zim creator) for pointing  this out here too

Spoiler

"It's a great time. Everyone is really excited about their old properties coming back." And I'm just like, "I don't give a shit. I'd rather it exist because it's coming from something other than trying to fill a space.

I mean, nostalgia is responsible for some of the worst shit out there, and it's responsible for taking me out of the moment in nostalgic properties that I've enjoyed. Like, I dunno, nostalgia is just [...] there's just continuations of things that started a long time ago, but they're just as relevant now.

I bring up Rogue One ... I bring up Star Wars a lot, that sort of thing. I'm not the biggest Star Wars fan, but I'm a big fan of movies, and I grew up with Star Wars. And I fucking loved Rogue One. I thought Rogue One was one of my favorite Star Wars movies, but the worst shit in that movie was all those little reminders of like, "Hey, hey, guys, this is from Star Wars. Remember this, remember these guys in the alley? They're from the cantina in A New Hope. Isn't that great? Are you not entertained?"

And I'm just like, "No, I'm really distracted. I don't need this. You're telling me an OK story. This is cool. Shut the fuck with all these references."

Having seen all 3 movies, Disney's Star Wars more or less shits on and undoes everything the OT does including but not limited to killing off all major characters unceremoniously or making them irrelevant or demote them(I'm still amazed Lando got out mostly unscathed), brought back Palpatine in the most moronic way possible, more or less replaced everything with either significantly worse versions, or significantly worse solutions. It undoes all of the accomplishments of everything done by the heroes of the OT, actively screwed them over and gave everything to their own shitty movies and their own characters

Which honestly sucks because I honestly loved TFA

And the cherry on top: Disney and Lucasfilm failing PR 101, and spamming Godwin's Law at everyone who "dares" criticize this new direction.

While we should separate whatever evil deed film’s industries has done away from the movie itself because it shouldn't dictated our opinions... but in some parts it was their fault for making a bad call...Disney completely used SW for cash cow and look what happen. Hell, now they're trying to make yet, another trilogy  in the next two years :bea: Meh, We all can point fingers but at the end of the day it's just a film.

As Matt once say..

sorry about the cut, he just saying “try another piece of Star Wars content.”

If you want good Sci-Fi go watch Expanse. If you want serious sauce space fantasy get into 40k. Mouse and pixie dusters can howl about nostalgia and subjectivity as much as they want. Let them. They are howling into the void. Just sit back, close your wallets, and watch Disney suffer. As they say, one shouldn't support something they don't like. However, if you hate the new trilogy you should absolutely encourage Disney to continue with the same practice while withholding your financial support. If our critique is toxic, then let them experience how true rat poison tastes like.

I think Disney might not be the right owner for a brand like Star Wars, or Muppets. Disney wants more for their own brands (Mickey Mouse, etc) than the competition, so they swallow brands in the process, to gain control, to produce less value in those brands compared to their own. I thin Star Wars has seen the affect of this already, but we might see even more of it in later movies.

They did okay with Marvel but I guess maybe because Marvel movies has always been a "Disney Movies". While SW never were. So it's harder for them trying to pass that that sigma "oh oh, SW under disney? well this is going to bad".  I can't say how much fault is on Disney/LE for the fall of squeal Trilogy other then them trying too hard to meet with fans' expectations. But I know some bad calls being made from them during the productions.  JJ talked about how Disney gave him a specific timeline to finish TROS. Which to JJ, it wasn't enough time to do what he wanted to convey a descent story. They pressured him to hurry it up and you know the end result to that. Another is when Disney/LE demands JJ to add the Kissing scene for fan-service, when JJ refused. It sucks for these directors having to follow up with the production's conditions.  Otherwise, their movie will be taking away from them or worse, movie cancelled and back to square one.

I'm curious though for anyone who wish to share their thoughts, What do you guys think of the original TROS script, "The Duel of the Fates?" I have read the leak script but if anyone is interested, PM me for a copy.

Anyways here's a good overview if case someone never heard of it. Noted: the script was written in 2016 so of course, it's not perfect yet.Assuming they did not go in deep editing. But this script was written by  Colin Trevorrow before he has to hand it down to JJ.

Spoiler

I think it's look good something like a huge boost for the finale! (although TROS wasn't bad either)

  • This was taking 10 years after TLJ.
  • FO has successfully establish their own government and capital city in Coruscant. since it was abandoned.
  • Hux became Chancellor and leading the whole FO.
  • Kylo Ren taking the life force of Palpatine another(?) master, for power. (i'm curious how palatine have another master?)
  • Rey trains under Luke!! Duel saber!
  • The resistances fighting off against the Knight of Ren
  • Star destroyer Eclipse!
  • Fight to the death, Kylo vs Rey.
  • Finn leading the FO prisoner/citizens  to rebel against FO
  • Hux committed suicide
  • FO final attempted to destroy the resistance by trying to do kamikaze, only to have their coordinates to change and hyped speed to their demolish.
  • Princess Leia helped Rey at the end like in TROS.and also watching RD-D2 old memories during their time together in the OT.

Just gonna put it out there, that I also think J.J. Abrams might not be the best choice for Star Wars. He's been missing details in other shows of his, while he makes good things. Star Wars is not a franchise that should mess up details, or mix stuff up. It might not just be Disney's fault here for the new Star Wars.

I agreed but you have to consider JJ has to come around with  Rian Johnson's last work with the Last Jedi. JJ mentioned about how "it was like picking up someone else' work and trying to work around it."  Rian added many things to the last Jedi that doesn't correspond with TFA. So now JJ coming back has to work around it. He's not missing details from TFA, If anyone is missing details from TFA it would be Rian.

Star Wars is the only major property I feel they really screwed up. For the most part they've been pretty good to Muppets, and with Marvel they'd been more or less hands off, Marvel has enough of a say with their own property that I can say when their screw ups and accomplishments are theirs, not to mention they have better leadership in Kevin Feige as opposed to Lucasfilm's Kathleen Kennedy
