I've got a bit of an outline so far.  Very rough, so there will be changes down the line.

She was born in Canterlot and her family are all wizards. She however is an outlier, as her magic ability is very minimal. Because of this, she was sent to live with her uncle in a remote village and help him with his small farm. Her uncle shared the same path she did, being sent away for basically not being good enough. Since she was raised in Canterlot, she inherits that kind of snobby attitude you see every now and then in some episode. She isn't enthusiastic about the farm and wants to leave her village and explore the world once she's old enough. This feeds from the feeling of not being good enough. She doesn't want to try, because she's afraid she'll fail. As she grows older, she discovered a talent for using hard materials to create things. This is when she gets her cutie mark. This talent ignites a fire inside her and sort of lets her break away from the city girl that's afraid to get dirty stereotype. She grows from being sort of stuck-up, to being invested in the farm and sharing that passion with her uncle.

I did try to sketch little lashes, but they're hard to see since the drawing's so sketchy anyway.
