Any songs you just really remember standing out to you certain years? Doesn't have to be from that year; it just had to have stood out to you.

This year it's probably these two:

-Sara by Starship

Last year it was probably "Enjoy the Silence" by Depeche mode

2017: Ophelia by the Lumineers

2015: Walk of Life by Dire Straits, and Drift Away by Uncle Cracker

2013: Paradise by Coldplay

Uhhh

Yeah I'm sure I've had more but I can't recall.

I pretty much associate every brony song with 2011-2015 (particularly The Moon Rises/Lullaby for a Princess with 2012), a lot of stuff by System of a Down (particularly Chop Suey) with 2013, a lot of old school rap music from artists like Biggie Smalls with 2015, all sorts of weird, experimental, "so bad, it's good" songs with 2014, and both 2012 and 2014 are the years I associate most with My Chemical Romance songs.

Oh yeah, and 2017 was an oddball year for music that I associate with Creature Feature. Yeah, I've had lots of weird phases. :nom:

Aside from the year they came out, I usually associate songs seasonally or with a certain environment. I've been meaning to make a play list for all of them.

Life is a Highway by Rascal Flatts played a lot during my first season working at a petting zoo in 2017. In the Fall I worked for Park Maintenance and our radio station played Black Hole Sun by Sound Garden and Enter Sandman by Metallica frequently.

Memes have played a big role in this as well with so many viral tunes being painfully catchy.

The latest edition was Say So by Doja Cat.

I really associate this with piece with 2020 as that marked my rebirth of interest into classical music. It also reminds me what one thing that was hit hard by the covid lockdowns as many orchestras struggled to cope with loss of attendance.

This might be a strange one, but every time I play this performance of the first movement of Widor's Symphony for Organ and Orchestra it just takes me back to that point.

The "WAKE UP!" part of Chop Suey is still one of my alarms >.<

This thread is giving me so much nostalgia. It's nice to see so many songs above that I had previously forgotten until now. :)

2010 stands out to me as a year when everyone was making YouTube poops/edits. I remember the "Trololo" song and the Lord of the Rings spoof:

Spoiler

I associate 2012 with "Chasing The Sun" because I loved the band back then and significant events were happening in my life around the time of the song's release.

The 2007-2009 era makes me think of a bunch of techno remakes of older songs, such as "Everytime We Touch", "Heaven", and "Listen To Your Heart" because they were on the radio/circulating around on music sites pretty frequently. I also recall that people were making a bunch of Kingdom Hearts shipping videos that included those songs.

2007 specifically makes me think of "Red, Red Wine" because I was obsessed with '80s music at the time and replayed it almost daily.

2016? "Just Do It". It was all over the Internet. :P

Anything related to classic dubstep reminds me of 2011-12 :D

Same here! It felt like an explosion of EDM subgenres in general.
