Most relatable episode to You

I came up with this thread idea just now as I was contemplating how most of MLP episodes contain lessons that can feel VERY personal to certain people.

We all know that feeling, I believe. Watching a show, movie, reading a book or playing a video game and seeing events that feel personal on an uncanny level... as if someone took our biography and made a story out of it where the only differences are names of those involved and the setting of it.

What are Yours? Which would be the episode of My Little Pony that You find very personal, touching something You experienced?

Mine would definitely be "Putting Your Hoof Down" as it describes my lifelong struggle with people thinking that I should change, aka, become more "assertive" to handle the real world. What those people don't realize that their definition of "assertive" is becoming what borders on being a complete bully. On top of all - it waters down my own self worth as I am simply assertive in my own ways, only avoid confrontation unless it's necesarry (which I also happen to share with Fluttershy based on how she dominated the dragon without having to use violence for that purpose).

That episode taught me my worth and reassured me that my stubborn resistence was a right choice. I can't simply change myself to fit other people's (quite narrow) viewpoints and if someone confuses my softness for naivety and stupidity it is their mistake, not my weakness. Kindness in the end is not a weakness.

Fluttershy showed me what I would become if I heeded those advices - a complete jerk and villain. I would cease being myself and wearing a skin of a different person would not serve me well. While I did not let myself become "different" before seeing that episode it was still a very important experience for me to watch it. A confirmation and a confidence boost for me :fluttershy:

As one person I cannot change the world, but I can change the world of one person.

I relate most to Sounds of Silence's moral and not just because it's possibly my all-time favorite episode. Like the kirin, I'm introverted and reticent, yet I also understand that conflict is a part of life. It's a very important lesson to learn to not let conflict discourage you from being who you are.

Everyone loves Misty. For good reason, of course. :3

1. Griffon The Brush Off, being friends with complete douchebags that think they are cool, but harsh my vibe and don't think things that are actually fun and interesting are "neat" they also are embarrassed of people that are genuine... Really love this episode

2. Party Of One, constantly thinking I'm hated because people around me have other things going on, and I can't constantly be validated by their company or recognition

3. Putting Your Hoof Down, I used to be really mutable to other people's wants and needs and all of a sudden when I started being real I was the bad guy, nah there's got to be a healthy medium I exhibited some toxic confrontational behaviors...

4. Rarity takes Manehattan, I know what it's like to have someone completely abuse my kindness and literally steal my efforts and ideas to pass them off as their own

5. Tanks for the Memories, as I believe it to be a metaphor for actually losing a pet, and that is something I have a very difficult time with like Rainbow Dash, and her emotional response I completely understand, this, this right here is how we want to see our element of LOYALTY...

6. No Second Prances, I have made mistakes in my past that the majority of individuals pretend constantly was very recent or even present, and I'm held to the standards of someone that no longer represents who I am, this coupled with my difficulty in forming genuine friendships and my emotional response to learning I've been used or that someone was being disingenuous in their interactions with me, I really love this episode, it's probably my favorite...

7. Spice Up Your Life, as I am constantly conflicted as to whether or not I should act against my own character for objective successes or if I should be myself and let it be a compass for potential unforseen successes

8. The Times They Are A Changeling, Being an outsider with great intentions but just being inherently distrusted for being, "who and what you are". This episode runs deep with me but that's an Iceberg we can't go down..

There's a lot of moments within episodes I relate to, but not the premises of these episodes as a whole, and even some others that would just sound silly if I tried explaining it, lol, like Feeling Pinkie Keen xD I love "Where the Apple Lies" to (used to tell a lot of lies, but the gravity and direction of this episode is ridiculous) Other episodes I adore but the message of the episode and why I like it don't exactly align.. but these are the ones I can "relate to" very easily...

CMC episodes where they didn't get their Cutie Marks at the end. I have had many many countless things that have started out right, but ended in tears. What I have learned from that is to NEVER give up. Just like the CMCs never gave up.

The Mane Attraction: As a musician, I don't let my shiny gear or the instruments I play on define who I am. Music is a journey, a quest to find your true self. Like Rara's Cutie Mark glowing, I can feel when I've hit the peak...you can feel as if you're soaring in the air, because you know who you are and God put you in that place for a reason. The enemy tempts us with all these "bells and whistles" but God just wants us as we are. Rara was behind the veil until Applejack reminded her who she truly is.

God called each and everyone of us to do something special. When you show your true self, just as Christ did, you will shine the absolute brightest.

  • 5 months later...

Testing Testing 1, 2, 3. I've got ADHD and learning difficulties in general, so getting information into my brain has always been something I struggled with. Seeing that represented in the show made me happy to see and made me feel less alone, if that makes any sense.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.
