Lyra Heartstrings1 53 December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 Hey ponies, Recently I wanted to get my MLP obsession out there... But I really want to convert one of my friends, so It'll be easier for me. I'm afraid if I come out, I'll get bullied, death treats, cyber bullied ect... But I don't know how to convert them. And also, my friends aren't those types that will convert easily, my friends are, uhm, awkward. They're the people that would pick on me about this, I don't know anyone out of my friends that will listen to me about it, all of them would... Laugh. And plus, my teachers are jerks. They're basically like kids with money. Completely immature, if they found out, I'd also get laughed at. I also give hints, like I sing the MLP song like literally everyday, but my friends think I'm messing with them. So yeah, I really want to convert one of my friends, and I have no luck thinking of a plan. Good luck solving my problem! xD
D1SC0RD 987 December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 (edited) I was converted. My brother made me watch a couple episodes with him, and I got hooked. But all the negitave things you've listed.. I don't know if converting someone is a good thing. If they won't show love and tolerance towards your pony obsession, they wouldn't make a very good brony, now would they? If you want someone to talk ponies with, I'm sure that any user on these forums would be more than willing to do so. I hope you aren't converting them because you feel alone.. So yeah, I really want to convert one of my friends, and I have no luck thinking of a plan. Good luck solving my problem! xD Well, first you have to get some leverage on your teachers. This is alot easier than you might think. If they are immature enough to actully make fun of you for watching a cartoon, then they're either not qualified to be teachers, or they're using this as an excuse to deflect attention off something they did. I can't say for sure, but people like that usually have something to hide. As for your friends, you can always show them things like Epic Cupcake Time, or Fluttershy Goes Insane to see what their reaction is. If they seem to show interest, then you've pretty much hooked them. If not, just tell them you randomly found it when looking at youtube, and they shouldn't be the wiser. TomokoKuroki 1,707 December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 (edited) Well, I wouldn't force them. As they do have free will. But you can defiantly try to talk them into watching a video. It's much better to grow a love for something, than have it shoved in one's face until they like it. (I am not saying you do that, just a example!) For example, you can make them lose a bet, and they have to watch a few episodes of MLP due to losing the bet. Or anything clever you come up with to not directly say "I'm a brony will you be one too?". For anyone who would tease or make fun of you, or even threaten you, go to a principal or police, or any adult you trust that can help. Those are serious situations that can lead to bad outcomes (Especially the threats part) so make sure to tell somepony if that ever happens. Other than that, I can only hope for the best for you, and hope anything I have said has helped in any way. Jay6 29 December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 You just need some confidence. Tell them that this is definitely something that they just HAVE to see, and just throw it on.
Lady Rarity Pony 4,892 December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 I don't see too much reason to say it just to get it out there, it will only bring hate. Try finding out if there are any other bronies in your school/area and maybe get some backup before exposing your secrets 1 LRP's opinions are subject to change without notice. Fees and penalties still apply.
Shankveld 4,949 December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 I was part of the robotics and computer programming club when I was in highschool and there were a lot of bronies there, I also here that there are a lot of bronies in band too, so you might wanna find your brony pal there ~ As far as converting goes... talk to your friend who is really into memes (we all have one) and show them "My little brony" or other ponified memes/ rage comics then suggest watching a few episodes to understand the jokes better ..you'll have a made brony in no time ~

Demi 545 December 15, 2011 Share December 15, 2011 I've honestly never understood all the fear of coming out being with being a Brony.. seriously I always thought where I lived people were a little rough (big muscular jocks and what not) but apparently not. But yeah, I wouldn't force it down somebody's throat since that will just lead to dislike. Really I just showed my friends lots of funny pony pics and just started watching episodes with them over and not a single doodoo was given that day (or anyday). Either they're gonna like it for some raisin or another (the art, cuteness, overall fun vibe) or they won't. Like one of my friends doesn't like it and probably never will, but he easily tolerates me watching it since he just knows its my thing. Then I have another that I started watching episodes with and had fallen in love with Applejack. Really I wouldn't really try to convert anybody, but if they decided to join the herd through my fanship then I consider it a win for me.

Zoop 8,384 December 16, 2011 Share December 16, 2011 Like other people have mentioned, if you want to be subtle and/or are concerned about the reaction, just show them some amusing mashup videos that combine MLP with something that is more... 'socially acceptable' - that way if they end up not liking it at all, you can laugh it off as just being a silly video that some crazy guy on the internet made. ... on the other hand, if you think your friends would give you grief over your choice of television shows, they may not be the best of friends in the first place.
JappleackWithApples 34 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 I figured that you just let them watch one episode and then there they would become a bronie (or a semi bronie at least like myself) APPLES OVER GOD
YossarianLives 3 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 (edited) I have converted a couple of people by mentioning it to them and pointing them to where they can find it. I would also watch episodes in school, which would pique everyone's curiosity. Those who approached me would get an appropriate explanation ("So, it turns out that the show is actually quite good. Have you ever heard of Lauren Faust?"). The important thing is not to force it on anyone or annoy anyone too much. This is a show that must be approached with an open mind. So you will have the most luck converting someone willing to watch it without resistance. (Don't worry, everyone caves in to curiosity sooner or later). I don't think you should be worried too much about bullying, though. If the teachers do it, you can sue their asses. If your friends do it, then they are probably joking around and don't mean any harm (they are your friends, after all). Lauren Faust is a good way to ease in the conversation topic. Mr. Shoe 20 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 (edited) You shouldn't try to convert them, especially when IT could damage your relationship with your friends/ teachers. Seriously, it's better of to live with the secret that you are a brony. You shouldn't, because if you do, and if they will react to it in the bad way, they will surely (as you said yourself) bully you, cyber terrorise you, ignore. Believe me, I almost made a mistake myself. I kind of mentioned the thing about MLP and bronies and they reacted to it like "lol, they are just some idiots who over reacted to a little girls show. It's a good thing you aren't one of them, because if you would, we would immediately stop all relationships with you...". So I had to lie and say that I hated them too. So yeah, It's up to you actually. I'm just saying you shouldn't, because you may need them in the future, and they MAY not help you because they hate bronies aka you being a brony. Kodiak 431 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 Coming "out the stable," as it were, is simply a matter of confidence. You first have to be secure in yourself/masculinity so that you're able to proudly declare your love of the show. As for the whole converting thing, I wouldn't force it too hard on them. I would at least have them promise to give it a shot with an open mind. If they don't like it then they are bad people with no taste for quality entertainment that's okay; they at least gave it a shot. Going back to what Ice said, try to loosen them up with a PMV of something they might like. A PMV both shows off the show's animation quality and cuteness, while playing on the predefined love of whatever it's about (ex. the love that somepony has for Call of Duty may transfer over to a love for ponies). Hope I helped you out. Good luck in your endeavors; remember, you always have the forums for support. Jay6 29 December 17, 2011 Share December 17, 2011 Eh, with my group of irl friends from high school, we would sometimes purposefully watch bad movies/shows just to mock them (Ugh, Twilight... @_@ ). You could probably do this with My Little Pony Friendship is Magic somehow, and they may end up appreciating it.
---------------------- 1,645 December 18, 2011 Share December 18, 2011 What I do is I make a dvd with as many episodes as I can cram on it, and i got to the person and say "here, just watch 3 episodes" but of course thay got all those other episodes, if they get interested they have those other episodes to watch and then sure enough they come back the next day and are like "so when will the new episode be?" I have gotten this to work on every one, but 1 person claims that he cant stand the show, when ever I put it on he will eaither, watch it and not care, complain about it, or curl up in the fetal position and weep like a baby, and I am not making this up in the sligtest
Crazy Misty 653 December 18, 2011 Share December 18, 2011 Well this was my plan. 1. Tell my friends I watch it, be dead serious. 2. Tell them about the cooler stuff, like Fluttershy vs a bear, or the rainbow nuke. 3. Eventually get them looking at pony pics during class. 4. Watch the show... 5. Repeat 6. ??? 7.
