Timer between posts (sub-question: whats up with the all the staff changes?)

So I'd like to give some feedback on the timer that prevents one from posting quickly. I can see how it would help to prevent spam, but it doesn't make sense (to me at least) to prevent me from posting somewhere and then making a new thread that's totally unrelated 30 seconds later. I, and many others, move fast on the internet, and this timer thing is quite a nuisance.

I'm not sure if IP.Board has an option for this, but I think it would be way better if there was only a time restriction on posting in the same thread in quick succession, and possibly one on creating new threads in quick succession.

Also, totally unrelated, but I find it strange that we have as many super mods as we do normal mods, as well as several new mods I don't think I've seen on the staff list before, and no announcement in the Castle regarding either of these. Does the super mod rank mean something different now? I know it used to basically be an admin, so do we have 8 admins running around now? If so, it seems rather odd that there are only 6 mods. Most sites have 1 or 2 admins, a few high level mods, and a bunch of normal mods (depending on the size of the site, of course).

i agree 100% with you Evilshy. The timer is rather annoying, and (I'd hope) I'm not considered a spammer.

And yeah, why so many new authoritarians nice, loving moderators?

Apparently 9 people were not enough to do a relatively simple job, so they needed 7 more ... I find that entirely hilarious, but whatever.

It's possible the Super Moderators are global mods while the Moderators are sectional. Entirely pointless and redundant IMO ...

I find it really annoying too, it should be something that people that are under 40 posts should deal with, along with blank flanks.

Ip.board has an aoption as far as I know but yeah it is pretty annoying, if possible it could only be for muffins and blank flanks?

The timer is to stop spamming, although I think it could be improved by allowing people to post in a unrelated topic without the timer.

And the reasons for all the new mods are as follows (this is my speculation):

  • The new season is going to be released in a few months, so there will probably be more traffic.
  • With summer here there could be a lot of new members joining, and some members may become more active. So therefore having more mods will make it easier to handle it.

The option was specifically enabled by Feld0, it does help prevent spam attacks, even from regular members. It is quite easy to open 20tabs of new replies and hit send on all of them at the same time. the flood control prevents this. It is a minor nuisance yes. But in all honesty, good quality posts often don't get typed up within the span of a single minute, so if flood control is really bothering that much, one must perhaps look into their own posting behaviour and look at how spammy it has been so far.

I have personally encountered the flood control only once. And I found it to be a minor inconvenience. But it shouldn't tehcnically be happening every time you post.

It is still in the process of being modified and changed, an official response will be drafted as soon as everything is complete. The new staff members will first need to accept their position and all administrative work must be completed before we can properly announce all the changes.

I can say this, there is a distinct difference between moderator and global mod, moderators are sectional, while global mods have a lot more power. Global mods simply get more privileges and some "admin light" functions.

Well, the timer seems to count the seconds between the last time you actually posted something, and prevents you from even clicking "reply to this topic" or "start new topic."

Occasionally, I'll have two or three tabs open, one containing a discussion or argument I'm having with someone, the others I'm just using to browse. If I make a post in one, then switch to the other and see that the other personal has replied, or find something else I'd like to reply to, or even decide to start a new thread somewhere, it prevents me from even going to the New Reply/Topic editor page thingy.

Now, I know it's not a huge deal, but a minute is an annoyingly long time on the internet.

Also, thanks for the info on the staff thing. I await the official announcement :)

Sectional mods such as myself were brought in to make the jobs of a Super Moderator a bit easier. This is also to control the amount of threads and posts being posted by new members as we will inevitably receive large amounts of traffic (which will boom), so no doubt that certain sections such as Everfree will get the most amount of threads which need to be kept in check, again to make sure that new members do not start to cause some sort of trouble. Also, that and more moderators to check for errors. The higher mods can only do so much, so they'll unfortunately miss out on certain "errors" found by another mod sooner or later.

More moderators are always a good thing. Also, I deny all allegations of accepting bribes, any such allegation is defamation and appropriate legal action will be pursued.

The timer has only gotten in my way a handful of times since I joined this place, so I don't have a lot to say about it. And as for the staff changes, sectional VS global makes quite a bit of sense. There's a very small amount of admins, and though there are quite a few global mods, having more mods to help add extra oversight over specific sections makes enough sense for me to agree with it.

So yeah, works for me~
