"I've been living by myself too long to be suddenly sleeping with some pony I haven't even known for longer than a day." said Daeva as she took a few cushions and some books and made herself something she could sleep on.

 

After setting it up she fell on the cushions and fell into a deep sleep.

Starbolt who was rather sleepy conjured a bed made of magical energy to lie on.

"Good night everypony." She said as she lay on her bed

She almost instantly fell a sleep.

Before Blaze knew it, a sliver of light was shining through the window of the tree house. The sliver of light just happened to fall right on his closed eyes pulling Blaze out of his deep slumber. He got up and saw that all the other ponies were still asleep, he also saw something quite odd. A pony he never saw before sleeping on a makeshift bed made out of books and cushions. Who is she? Blaze wondered. He decided to not wake Anypony but he still felt the dullness in his skull from sleep. So he checked in twilights kitchen to check if there was any coffee. To his surprise there was coffee grinds but no instruments to make it with. He remembered back to his college days, in science class they used to make coffee with lab equipment. There was nothing to start a flame with either, no gas canisters laying around. He remembered how making a vacuum (a space without air) and putting water in said vacuum lowers the boiling point of water so it boils at room temperature. He put the coffee grinds into a filter and then stuck the filter inside the chemistry set. He twisted a lever that was on the chem set which then began to suck all the oxygen out of the set. The water met the coffee grinds and started to boil. It took little more than 5 minutes and it was ready. He twisted another lever which opened the nozzle to poor out the rich smelling coffee. The fresh aroma of ground roasted coffee filled the tree house. He levitated a mug with his magic right under the nozzle and released some of the fragrant coffee. He put two sugar cubes in and a teaspoon of creamer and sat down to a book twilight had on oxygen magic. Taking sips of the caffeinated brew every so often.

Starbolt awoke to the aroma of coffee being made. She sat up and saw that Blaze was up making coffee.

"Good morning Blaze, how was your sleep?" She said.

The piano played softly...a heavenly sound to Carrick's ears. A white room A room that had only a piano and a blue pony. His eyes a light blue as he stared at his hooves' pressed the notes. His mare a light blue, in a pulled back style. Very neat. Carrick could tell that this pony was one of prestige.

 

"It's a nice sound isn't it?" A voice came through the blue pony.

 

Carrick nodded. The blue pony continued, "Music is a powerful instrument. Ponies take years to master such devices...I learned when I was just a colt."

 

"Do you like to do it? Do you like playing music?"

 

The blue pony chuckled "Of course I do. It calms me down." The blue pony continued his piano as Carrick just listened to it. It felt like hours had past by the angelic came through Carrick's ears. Something he hasn't heard in such a long time, music. He turned to the blue pony. He noticed something, he didn't have a cutie mark. A pony of his age should've gotten one, right?

 

Slowly the piano softly faded away, the music drifted off. "Now tell me something, Carrick. Why?"

 

Carrick didn't take note that this pony knew his name. "What, why?"

 

"Why are you a detective? Why must you push yourself to feats like you are now?"

 

The music came back, the piano came back. He heard the violin and cello slowly registered into his ears. An orchestral... "I

love mysteries. I love them since I was a colt." Carrick had a feeling that this pony talked about the case. "Though I admit this case is a hard one. I won't give up. I won't fall down to the likes of a pony. I haven't now, and I never will."

 

The blue pony look at Carrick with indifferent eyes. He couldn't tell what this pony was thinking. "What about the six ponies? Are you willing to take the risk? Just for a mystery? For a cheap thrill? Are you willing to put their life in your hooves, because it's fancy you?!"

 

The music's tempo went faster. The blue pony stared into Carrick's eyes. "Answer me that?"

 

Carrick couldn't answer that question. He was right. Was he willing to risk their lives? All of the blood on his hooves. He was the leader of the group. He's been the one who decide to jail break Trixie. Now he has to decide on this. This choice that has been burden with. If Carrick gives up the case, all of the work he has done. The evidence, the interrogation, the jail break will be all for nothing. Not to mention that if Ice Star has a big plan. It might be too late for anypony to do anything...

 

"I-i can't give up." Carrick became hesitant.

 

"Can you? What do you have to lose? Your pride. That seems insignificant over ponies lives."

 

"What about Ice Star? Should I just let him go? I got myself and other ponies in a heap of trouble. Am I suppose to just give up and run away?"

 

"It's an option. An option that seems to be better than the latter. If you run away, than all of these problems will go. You can find a place with the other ponies and live your life without problems. Away from the guards, away from Ice Star, away from being a detective, away from it all."

 

"Away...from being a detective?"

 

"What?" The blue pony eyes widen for a second, the music stopped abruptly.

 

"You heard me. Being a detective, am I suppose to give that up as well? I wouldn't be able to be a detective. I would be stuck as a useless pony. If anything, I need to find a loophole in this. Maybe there something else. I dunno what, but it's better than giving up."

 

The blue pony gave a smile, "Is it? Think before you choose, Carrick. Think of the words I have said..." The pony slowly went into faded into the light. The light grew larger...

 

Carrick eyes opened up. The morning sun came back for it's revenge on Carrick's eyes. Bloodshot, just like yesterday. Carrick slowly got back up.

 

The smell of coffee, he went down the ladder and went to see Starbolt and Blaze, "Good morning." Carrick said as he wiped his left eye.

"Well good morning to you too. I had an excellent night sleep. Feel free to grab some coffee" Blaze was still sitting and reading but still used his magic without looking to fill up two cups with black coffee. He set them on the table next to the sugar and the creamer. " I realized some things may have happened while I was asleep. I saw a note on the table I read it already, and a strange pony asleep on some books." Blaze said "First let me tell you what I think about the note. I think it is a front, he wouldn't actually kill one of the wielders of harmony after he took all the time to kidnap each one of them. No, I think he needs them for something. Now about the strange pony, care to fill me in?" Blaze asked

Thunder heard the shuffling down stairs and lifted his head groggily. "Time to get up sweetie," he told Trixie. After giving her a quick kiss on the forehead he walked slowly downstairs and started on breakfast. "How do you guys like your eggs?" He asked everyone.

Trixie got some stimulated when Thunder woke her up by a kiss. She gave a big yawn than, went right back to sleep. She was still exhausted from day's past.

"It's possible, but it's also possible that he took the six ponies to stop him from thwarting his plans. Using them also a contingency plan if anything bad happen like a ragtag group of ponies to find out what in the hell he is doing. " Carrick replied, "It's only a theory, I suppose."

 

"As for the pony, her name is Daeva. One of the few ponies that has ever gotten me....angry."

Daeva woke up with a big yawn as she stretched herself, she stood up said good morning to Starbolt.

 

"I guess it didn't feel as comfortable as when I felt really tired, my back hurts from that." mumbled Daeva as she cracked her bones and wings.

Blaze examined the new pegasus. A teal pony, athletic looking and he sort of felt a dark presence around her. Not like the feeling he got from the brainwashed guards. No, this was a feeling of malevolence and malice that he could tell emanated directly from her very being. "Well hello there, my name is Blaze. And you are Deava I presume?" He said holding out his front hoof as if to shake.

Carrick turned and nodded to Thunder "Morning." He wasn't the type to really eat eggs. However, some sort of food would be nice. The last food Carrick ate was at the bar and it was drinking more than anything. "Make mine scrambled if you please." Carrick said to Thunder. His mind went back to the task at hand for the next course of action.

"No thanks I am going to eat out at the cafe. Anypony wanna come with?" Blaze said, Leaving an open invitation. He really didn't want to eat alone but he would if he had too...............................................

Starbolt drank most of her coffee. "Good morning Daeva." She replied.

"I'l go with you Blaze if you want." She told Blaze with his offer to eat out.

Thunder got Carrick's eggs started then went up stairs. "Now it's really time to get up," he said as he shook her.

Trixie groaned again, "Trixie does not want to. Trixie has not had a good night sleep in weeks! Let Trixie relax for ten minutes longer!" Trixie got enraged, it wasn't very smart to annoy the great and powerful Trixie. Even without magic powers.

"Oh come on Trixie, don't be a sourpuss," Thunder teased as he nuzzled her neck. "Besides, the sooner I get you out of this bed to eat the sooner we can both get back in it," he whispered.

Trixie's anger was calmed by the words of Thunder. A faint blush came upon her cheeks. "v-very well, Trixie will...get up." Trixie slowly got up as she thought about his words. It was one way to wake a pony up.

"Okay Starbolt lets take a walk" Blaze used magic to summon his saddlebags. They were white with a red orange shaped clasp. "Be back in a bit guys." Blaze said as he exited the tree house with Starbolt following him.

"Hey, wait for me! I haven't eaten anything for a while and I'm starving."

 

Daeva followed Starbolt and Blaze as they went out the door.

 

"What do ponies in Ponyville eat anyway? I've been living in the woods and I never knew what it was like to eat in a.. Cafe."

Blaze didn't mind an extra pony. Although he was hoping to have some alone time with Starbolt to talk about magic and runes. "Well most all ponies are vegetarians. I happen to really like mushrooms, but for breakfast I would get a fruit parfait " Blaze explained.

Walking down the main road of ponyville. The morning was very bright and sunny. The birds were out and about building nests and hunting worms. The ponies of ponyville still feared Blaze so most of them would turn their face from him as he passed by. "I have a book for you to read Starbolt." Blaze said using magic to unclasp his saddlebag and levitating a book out of the bag. The title of the book was 'runeology, the study of runes and ancient languages. "it is important for you to grasp the full knowledge of the ancient language. It will make it much easier for you to make runic circles that way" Blaze explained as he passed his book over to Starbolt.

"What are these runic circles you say?" asked Daeva after overhearing the conversation.

 

She expected it to be related to unicorns and their fancy magic but she was curious to know more about it.
