I'd say it has improved dramatically since beta - there are far more features, weapon options, and all manner of other fancy shtuff available these days.

As stated previously, I'd like to eventually get some forum folks together and get a server rented (it's pretty cheap!) for some private games at some point. :3

EVERYONE VS ZOOP GO GO GO

Sounds sweet!

Can't wait to kick yer butt, Zoop!

Haha, what was that?

You think it will be the other way around?

I don't think so.....*Gulp*

Also, have this game turned into Pay to Win game?

Can you spend money on unique overpowered gear and buffs like in most FTP games?

No. While there is some stuff that can only be purchased with money, it's just junk like voice packs and other non essential stuff. You can pay to speed up your XP gain, and you can pay to unlock weapons without using XP (you still have to use XP to level them up, though), but that's about it. Nothing game breaking in my eyes, especially since I stick to the same loadout for the most part

(Soldier with spinfusor, pistol, shortfuse grenades, supply pack, super capacitor, and survivalist)

That said, I do think it's worth grabbing a lower end booster so that you get the permanent XP boost, but it's not really a necessity - just makes it so that you don't have to wait quite as long for stuff.

That is something that is completely acceptable.

There is nothing really that gives you a great advantage but its there for those who would like to support the game developers.

  • 4 weeks later...

My Tribes had not been working lately but I finally got it fixed. Played a little bit as the technician. Most of the time I suck with SMGs in this game, but today I did really well.

I hope they'll start updating the heavy classes soon.

  • 3 months later...

So, after an inexcusably long break I jumped back into the game today - did absolutely terribly right at the start, but by the end of the session had managed to bring myself back to the point that I was getting some MVP accolades and ranking pretty bloody highly. Was a ton of fun, and was invigorating as hell.

If there are any other folks into Tribes around here, feel free to add me to your friends lists if you'd like to hop into a game together sometime - my username as listed on the list in the OP is Zoop.

That said, have some fun montages.

Holy mother of necromancy. I haven't played in a while either. Tera's been eating all of my time. Last few times I played Tribes, I didn't end up playing very long though. Just don't have the mood for it right now, I suppose.

I have the rare ability to have an extremely good time even when being completely and utterly smashed, it seems. The first game I was tossed into had me on a team with someone that seemed completely new to the game against three people were were really good - rather than being frustrating, it ended up being nothing short of completely and utterly thrilling to a ridiculous extent. x)

Boooo MMORPGs.

There isn't one yet, actually. You could always start one, or post in the favorite MMO thread. ;)

As an aside, I have enough premium credit on Tribes to rent a private server for a weekend or so I think. Might have to consider the possibility of an organized game day for forum folks or such. :3

Ohhh... Please delay for a few months. XD

I'm trying to recover from wrist injury enough to be able to play games with a trackball again.  I've been trying out a few new things that seem to have resulted in some wonderful progress over the past few days. (Including, but not limited to, actually getting sleep.)  There is still hope for meee! XD

Can do - especially since that will give @NewCalamity time to get his game fixed up so that he can participate as well. Everyone vs the MLP Forums staff, perhaps? Fighting against horrifying odds is always tons of fun!

Oh god, yes!

I played Tribes for the first time in months last night.  It was a blast despite the fact that the servers a friend and I were being put into were pretty empty.

I had the same issue today, but the fact that it was TDM made it more or less a non-issue. If anything, being in a relatively small and intimate game against a number of skilled and respectable opponents made the entire thing all the more exciting.

That said, I do love the massive flustercluck games as well. :3

I got this game forever ago, but I never actually played it.

Man it's tough as hell! I got a bunch of assists and like, 4 or 5 kills but I kept getting absolutely slaughtered by big scary vehicles and people with big scary guns.

It was still a really fun time, it gives me a sort of Halo vibe but more serious and all. I'll be trying to perfect myself as much as possible for the next few days weeks.

Edit: Oh, I also grabbed the flag once. I had absolutely no ammo, and was sprinting for my life. I was running, skiing, flying... I was so close. I could see my base! One more flag for the win! The I turned around and 7 guys mauled me to death with explosives, bullets, knives, and the like.

Glad to hear that you're having a good time with it. :)

It is a pretty tough game to get into - the combat is pretty tricky compared to most of your cookie-cutter first person shooters, which makes it all the more rewarding in my book.

I'm not sure what the initial unlocks are at this point (they've changed a couple times), but I'd suggest working toward unlocking the Soldier's spinfusor and Eagle Pistol as quickly as possible; they've been my bread and butter choice for general combat since day - the  pistol is great for shaving off the last few pixels of an enemy's life bar if they try to escape from combat... and for a quick way to reset their regeneration timer if you're having trouble hitting with the spinfusor. That said, I also use the shocklance (newly added) and spare spinfusor from time to time... the thumpers are viable weapons, but the rifles are icky and shouldn't exist.

That said though, I mostly stick to Team Deathmatch, so that loadout isn't going to be super ideal for some of the situations you'll find yourself in when playing Capture the Flag. I usually gravitate toward the mid field with that loadout when doing CTF.

I hear a lot of people compare the game to Halo, which is exceedingly amusing considering that the Tribes franchise has been around far longer than Halo x)

Knives are annoying. I hate the knives.

Oki doki, thanks for that. I'll have some free time later tonight to try and not get absolutely destroyed. I prefer CTF in almost any game though, but I'll be sure to try out all the game modes. I feel like it has the potential to become a favorite multiplayer game of mine.

In a nutshell...

  • Team Deathmatch is, if nothing else, good for getting a lot of general combat training in a relatively small amount of time - you don't have a huge number of objectives to worry about, so you can focus on getting your aiming down, leading your shots, and all that sort of thing.
  • Arena is similar to TDM, but a step up - the games are smaller, and there are so few available respawns per match that every death counts; in addition, the general skill level is increased considerably with significantly smaller map that place more emphasis on direct confrontation than skiing.
  • Rabbit is a good way to practice flag running and such - in rabbit games there is a single flag; the goal of the mode is to hold on to the flag as long as possible, while everyone else in the server tries to kill you. Players that do not have the flag are considered to all be on a single team, making it vital that you be able to run like hell.

Those are my favorite game modes. CTF ranks in there somewhere, but I tend to be focused around killing folks enough that I gravitate to other modes unless I'm playing with someone.

Hit me up on Steam next time you're about to play.

Just finished a few games with @Twiliscael, was some good times. x)

I think I did okay.

Well, I think I did okay... I mean, I broke about even every time. (Don't include the last game.)

Stop being so good, you make me feel bad.

I think that this is a really good game though. It's fun, fast-paced, class-based (love class based games), and I think it has the potential to become a favorite of mine.

Alright, this is lookin' good so I decided to try it out. Simple TDM with players around my level and I must say I'm loving the fast paced gameplay in this. So first game in, didn't know anything bout the controls n all so I was testing out things more or less, went 9 kills and 4 assists, not too shabby for my first game.

Second game in, I kinda figured out everything, went and got 1st place with 19 kills and 12 assists. So is it just me or are there a lot of players who aren't that good at all?

Anyway, the fact that the bullets have to travel is still a thing I need to get used to, though I figured out the travel speed of all of the weapons I used. Looking forward to unlock the Twinfusor, seems like a good gun.

I really want the Sentinel, Infiltrator and Technician class, but that'll have to wait for some time.

--

So about the game itself, the game's pretty good though I don't like the jump height but it doesn't bother me at all.

The classes are great but I couldn't change mid-game which is either a game rule or just me being a big noob. Though the classes all kinda look the same to me and it's hard figuring out which is which. From what I've seen up till now  is that the classes are pretty balanced and you don't want to mess with the class that counters yours.

Guns seem pretty slick too, I was using the standard Soldier gun, which is the assault rifle, it didn't seem too good for high-rank games but a pretty good gun to start out with. The Thumper D however was wonderful and it made me unstoppable in my second match.

--

Oh, and before I forget, if anyone wants to team up, my acc's name is Scoota-Bot though my in-game name is TaviBot. I play the game through steam so if you wanna add me on Steam, my name's Winterbass on that.

I'm looking forward to my first match of CTF ^^
