searching Mane Six in Ponyville

I would like to start a roleplay that would involve six players including me, each playing one of the Mane Six. We would need people who have a very good understanding of each character's mannerisms and speech. Each player could pick a background or supporting character to play, as well. If we get more than six players, adjustments could be made for them to play some more prominent background characters (like Spike, Celestia, etc.). Every player would be roleplaying as a canon character, no OCs please. I just want be Rarity (see below)... everything else I'm leaving wide open!

 

What kind of story do you think we could do? I want this to be just like the show, with a story and a lesson learned at the end, if possible. I'm open to suggestions!

 

EDIT: Since we've gotten a bit more interest so far than I expected, we'll be holding auditions for all the Mane Six characters! And on that bombshell, it's not really fair that I should lock myself into getting Rarity if someone else can play her better. If you want Rarity, please just say so and you can try out for her! Just know you'll be competing against the master of the "Ask Rarity" thread. And no, I won't be judging the Rarity part of the audition...

 

You don't have to take a Mane Six pony if you don't want to! If you want a background pony, just say so! You could go with a major one (ie Celestia) if you like. You can also pick a background one who's gotten some significant screen time and is well-defined (ie, Fancypants or Photo Finish). You could even get creative and go with one who has little to no dialogue in the show (ie Lyra, Bon Bon, Vinyl Scratch, Octavia, etc.).

I want to plan this out really well, so I want to get a lot of ideas for the story before we actually start it. If there is a lot of interest for the same character, we'll hold auditions! I want this to be just like an episode of the show.

Well, seems like an interesting experiment. I'm not sure how well I could imitate the character's mannerisms, but I'd be willing to try my best at a Fluttershy. I have loads of experience playing shy characters, so I think I could pull it off.

 

As for a story, hmm... we could try something more adventurous to involve all of us. Something a bit like Dragonshy-style or Canterlot Wedding. The Diamond Dogs could make a return, allowing Rarity to get in a good amount of spotlight. Perhaps they're getting desperate for gems, and there's some kind of shortage. They decide to ransack Ponyville. The Mane Six goes out to check for gems using Rarity's gem checking spell, and figure out that all the gems are gone. For a reason I'm not really sure of. Nor am I sure what lesson could be learned from this, but it's a start.

No more gems for Rarity? Sounds like THE. WORST. POSSIBLE. THING that could happen to someone so fabulous! I like the idea. It's definitely something to think about. Though I'm not sure how far we could go with it, seeing as the Diamond Dogs were pretty much fleshed out completely in the episode...

 

Or we could do something that involves the whole Mane Six, like a Dragonshy-type mini quest. They would solve a problem that clearly could not go unresolved, yet still lighthearted enough so it wouldn't involve the total obliteration of Equestria and life as we know it.

 

I keep thinking of some sort of villain that would somehow lure them into a cave or dungeon. The issue or problem that originally led them there would be a ruse to get them in there, where their wits and friendship would be tested while they find a way to escape. The villain wouldn't need to be a megalomaniac like Discord, but maybe something like a mischievous (insecure bully?) dragon who wants a playmate. I suppose we shouldn't worry too much about the lesson at the end... if we write it well enough, that should develop itself by the end of the story!

I like that idea, but if its going to be like a real episode i think we need posting scheduled, as in we all get on the forum at a certain time and just post, instead of people getting on at random times and not letting other ponies respond, it would just make everything easier.

I'm not so sure if that's a good idea. I'm online at pretty erratic times, so I probably would miss the schedule quite a bit.

 

This doesn't require perfection, though. Even if it was so good we wanted to make a fanfic out of it later, it would have to be edited first, anyway. I've dealt with this before, and post order usually isn't that big a deal.

Well, that would kinda be an original character. The goal here is to stay as close to official canon as possible. If you don't want to try out for a Mane Six character, you're welcome to take a background pony or two! You could go with a well-known one, or if you want to go in a more free, creative direction, you could pick a character who isn't well defined, or has received very little dialogue in the show. I hope everyone who wants a part will get to play somepony or another--there are plenty of background ponies to go around!

Sure, I'll add you to the list. The more the merrier! And you can always try out for both! It's going to be like an informal page or two of role playing in this thread as the character you ask for. Somehow we decide from there who to give the character to, but I figure the majority should agree on who best portrays a certain character.
