Master Chief 183 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 (edited) I'm sorry to step out of line, but I am starting to get angry. First, let's start off with the hundred word minimum. Rant One: Okay, this is super obvious. We've all enjoyed posting in threads where you post all of your funny pictures, and I get some retty funny pics from those! But, the character minimum crushes those type of threads with an iron fist! They also ruin video replies!! And now for the post limit! Rant Two: I am a quick poster. I like to post in one topic, and while waiting for a reply, post in another one. 'Nuff said. Edited July 29, 2012 by Rainbow Dash G4 3 Signature By PixiGlow Check Out Ponies At Play! Starshine 16,333 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 About time limit, it's hardly noticeable. It's already applied to the forum a while back ago, and I just figured it out a week ago. Unless you're trying to post in fifteen different thread, timer between posts in nonexistent And the Character Limitation, it's actually very easy to post your pictures and videos a very brief explanation about what happened in the video, or why do you think the image was funny. Let's say... Oh dear sweet baby Luna these pictures are soo funny I can't stop laughing, you gotta check them out! That's a 100 character sentence. Long story short, try to trashtalk more
Aureity 3,055 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 I'd just like to say, threads in Cloudsdale are not subject to the character limit. You can post all the funny pictures you'd like in there. 5 A lil' Catherine <(^.^)>

Oh yeah, forgot about that one If I'm not mistaken, there's no limitation in Cloudsdale, right? Bane 5 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 (edited) I don't normally like limits like this but I understand why it is done. Maybe it could be taken off for those who have 100+ posts as a way to reward for contributions? I myself do not mind it really. Finesthour 7,287 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Post pictures in forum games, not actual topics. And waiting a minute is not THAT bad. I have 8,000 posts, and I had to wait for each one. Not the end of the world.

Founder Twilight Sparkle ✨ 8,526 July 29, 2012 Founder Share July 29, 2012 The one-minute flood control between posts has existed since the day MLP Forums opened. That has always been there. As for the character minimum, we already have a 14-page thread for that here: http://mlpforums.com...m-post-lengths/ FYI, it's a hundred characters, not words. 1 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi
PegasisterTaco 318 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 I myself, do not mind the character minimum. I would understand why they had to install that feature. Like everyone else said, just post your funny pictures in the forum games. Life is an adventure. An adventure of mistakes, accidents, and misunderstandings. That's what makes life life. Doctor XFizzle 8,669 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 We have a one minute post timer here? Hot damn, I've been here since day 1. Guess I've never had a problem then *thumbs up* Also, if you need a video or meme/image to be the only item in your post in response to something, then your response wasn't going to be very integral to the topic anyways. 6 MLP Forums' resident timelord, sports dilettante, and purveyor of wit and humor~*Traveling Timelord Nonpareil*~
Pinkazoid 3,493 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 Well, look, the mods did this for a reason, and it is the best option, I like the character minimum, it encourages others to make their posts longer and valid. An artist in Octavia's hall would feel better if they received well thought posts, and their full critic instead of a simple "This looks good" comment, Everfree Forest, is about many things, from favorite shows to latest news, post should always be larger than 100 characters, Show Discussion, what's there to discuss if there's only 4 words posts there? Now, The mods are reasonable, they made more characters on Life advice, and in Roleplaying, and they removed character limits in Cloudsdale Colosseum, which is pretty cool of them, Character limits by far are encouraged from me...... But I do agree with Time limit between posts, I tried making an RP after I had just posted about me making it in my OOC thread, the wait is a little annoying even though it's only one minute.... Okay, this is super obvious. We've all enjoyed posting in threads where you post all of your funny pictures, and I get some retty funny pics from those! But, the character minimum crushes those type of threads with an iron fist! They also ruin video replies!! Well all the "post your _____ pictures" threads were moved cloudsdale >.> ....and video responses aren't always very accurate, and most video responses actually have some extra thought to back them up 2 :
cuteycindyhoney 13,307 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 The one hundred character limit isn't that big a deal. As for the one minute flood control. I honestly never noticed that! PRO-TIP: Spell out all numbers. Thirteen characters used for numbers in the above post, instead of just four! Thank you Sparklefan1234!!!
Strife 455 July 29, 2012 Share July 29, 2012 These two limitations are hugely important for the forums. Instead of rapid fire posting like a machine gun, try posting thought out and constructive posts. Ask yourself this: Does my response constructively contribute to this thread, or can it be considered a wordy spam post? Bottomline: These restrictions help improve the overall forum quality.
Evilshy 5,090 July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 PRO-TIP: Spell out all numbers. Thirteen characters used for numbers in the above post, instead of just four! Plus you look more sophisticated. Well, okay, not really, but I've always liked people who spell out numbers unless they're quite large, or it's a statistical report or something with a lot of numbers. Anyway, I, too, am a fast poster, and the only time I've had problems with the time limit is when I post something, and then immediately see a new thread with a short first post that I want to reply to. It's starts counting as soon as you actually post your last message, and doesn't let you even go to the "Add reply" page until the minute is up. Of course, you can just use the quick post thingy at the bottom of the page, but until recently, the mobile version didn't have that. 2 Signature now 99% less edgy! Shift 4,272 July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 (edited) Wait, there's a one minute flood control? Never noticed. While your waiting for the one minute to be up, watch youtube video's and just chill. Read a book. Review other threads. Also, this is to help prevent spam bots/spammers. They are fairly common and this helps reduce floods of spam. Also, around the 100 Minimum, I'm way over it right now. 351 characters so far. So, you can get around that by putting justification around that. For example, instead of putting 'I like that!' say 'I like that because....<Reasons here>'. It's not that bad and helps he site from spam, again. At least a spammer has to say 100 characters, not just a one-word post. Hope I helped. Edited July 30, 2012 by Resolution Have the courage to think and act on your own. Yellow Diamond 7,569 July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 Truth be told, I never noticed the time limit between posts. I frankly am uncertain how you could post so quickly in a standard conversation (not in some Cloudsdale spamfest) that you would incur the limitation. Also, can we actually have a 100 word minimum for each post? It would be great to see everyone effectively writing a third grade essay each time they posted (e.g., "My Summer Vacation: I Watched Ponies"). Domine, tu omnia nosti, tu scis quia amo te. A word minimum can be enforced instead of or in addition to a character minimum. But that would, in all likelihood, have lethal effects on our member retention rate. 3 Avatar credit: robinrain8 Signature credit: Kyoshi
Jokuc 8,173 July 30, 2012 Share July 30, 2012 (edited) First off, the moderators have already explained reasons to keep this for ponies who have said pretty much the same thing as you. Okay, this is super obvious. We've all enjoyed posting in threads where you post all of your funny pictures, and I get some retty funny pics from those! But, the character minimum crushes those type of threads with an iron fist! They also ruin video replies!! Well those topics are supposed to be in Forum games or General Silliness where there is no character minimum. The threads where you post pony images or videos in Everfree forest or Sugarcube corner are supposed to be discussed why you like it or dislike it. I am a quick poster. I like to post in one topic, and while waiting for a reply, post in another one. 'Nuff said. I am also a quick poster I guess. I have atleast 10 tabs open all the time. What you're saying above it not "'Nuff". It doesn't matter how used you are to that fast-posting behaviour, if you post fast replies it means they probably haven't got much quality. And that is, - again, what the moderators already have said - what Feld0 wants with this forum. Quality posts. Now I don't always make HQ posts myself, but even though I move pretty fast on the internet I have never even seen this time limit thing because I take the time to think what to post. Bunches 81 July 31, 2012 Share July 31, 2012 I haven't found any issues with either rule. I'm actually glad we have them! I left the last forum I was active in because users began to post one word responses to topics simply to boost their post count and would spam threads just to bury another user's comments. It got so out of hand that I left. Nothing of substance is posted there at all anymore, which is a huge shame after years over there. So to have these little rules in place is really nice to see here, coming from that experience. But I guess I can see how it's annoying if you really are just trying to post responses. 1 "I read somewhere that 77 per cent of all the mentally ill live in poverty. abcdefggggg 34 July 31, 2012 Share July 31, 2012 I am going to have to go with the majority and say that these rules have little impact on me and also help the site at the same time. Dusty Soul 2,611 August 1, 2012 Share August 1, 2012 I honestly didn't notice the 1 minuet between post thing. As for the Minimum, I actually think its great. It makes peoples posts actually have some substantial meaning other then.
