She knew it would happen one day. I mean, she'd been working with some of the most powerful spells nearly all her life. She knew she'd eventually screw some major thing up and end up somewhere around this point.... doesn't make it any less terrifying though.

Absolutely.

I started out with a rough sketch. Using plenty of lines to make sure my perspective and proportions are right.

 

Then I made the background, cleaned up the lines, and filled in the base colors with the airbrush and a steady hand. (less bumpy edges.)

 

Last thing was to add the lighting effects, like shading and highlights. I used 3 or 4 multiply layers for the shading. The darkest shades were for edges while the lightest were for general areas like the stomach. I used a red tint for the shading to match the background.

I used 4 Luminosity layers for the highlights. Like her eyes, hair, and parts of her body. Voila! About 3 hours of work.

Very cryptic stuff you have here my friend. Though from initial observation it seems like a simple drawing, it kinda stretches my brain a little after a while. As, not only is the setting itself creepy, the style is also creepy, in a good way. For some reason it also puts some questions in my mind. How the hell did she create a spell that big? Where will it take her too, a land of bliss or doom? Is she falling down, or being pulled backwards. there are numerous answers for these questions.

 

Very cool stuff indeed, I've never thought so much on any other art piece, and now I feel like doing it for more!

I usually like to draw Twilight as almost anorexic. Simply because she is the type of pony who would probably skip meals often to spend more time on whatever she's working on. Although more often than not it's forget, rather than skip.

Dang bro, this is an awesome piece of art. I love the concept; Twilight plunging into the dark depths of the arcane! Your process is good and clean; multiple layers are good layers, lol. I think you could not have done the shading and lighting any better. This looks superb!
