Any Software Savvy Ponies Willing to Lend a Hand?

Okay, so basically, Google Chrome has just started doing this thing for me on this website and on my Tumblr where, when I try to click on a text box to type a blog post or a reply on a thread here, it simply won't register that I clicked or did anything, thus preventing me from accomplishing what i intended to get done.

Has anyone else had problems similar to this? And does anyone have any advice as to how to help?

Edit: I'm making this thread via Internet Explorer :(

What dark times are these when the explorer emerges victorious?

I personally have not experienced such problems as you describe. Of course the obvious attempt would be clearing your cache and cookies; I assume you have already done this, though. You could try disabling all extensions and seeing if that makes a difference. If it does, you would then re-enable extensions one by one until you found the source of the problem.

If all else fails, you may want to try simply reinstalling (don't forget to check the 'Also delete browser data' box).

I'll try the extension thing, hopefully that works. Unfortunately, I love all my extensions for Chrome -_- Ah, well.

Edit: The newest IE isn't actually that bad... reminds me of firefox... *shrugs*

1st rule of everything computer. Did you try turning it off and then on again?

if that dosen't work, try re-installing chrome.

also do a virus scan just in case.

Do you have any suggestions for a good *free* anti-virus program? (and that really is the first rule of computers lol. I may do that one too just for good measure :P )

I personally use Microsoft Security Essentials. It works nicely, and is made by microsoft.

I've heard of AVG, but i have no experience with it.

Just make sure you don't use Norton. (Its terrible, sucks up all of your resources.)

First rule of being a geek - never ever mention or use Internet exploder, breaking this rule is punishable by forced removal of virginity and geek membership revoked

It's a good thing I'm not a virgin then ;)

I'll look into the Microsoft one. I have had experience with Norton and, yes, it's terrible. I had a trial version of McAfee but it expired. It's a pretty great program, but I currently am poor and don't have the money to renew it lol.

I am not an advocate of any browser; they all have their ups and downs. I have had a a ton of problems with IE in the past which has led to my disuse of the product. My main issue with it now is the lack of web standard compliancy, though IE10 seeks to bridge this gap.

Microsoft Security Essentials has been rated pretty highly among its users. You may also consider Avast! Free Antivirus as it has some additional layers of protection and customization if that is important to you.

Thanks! I'll look into Avast! as well. I don't think it's causing too many problems for the moment (neither I nor my girlfriend go to questionable sites on this laptop), but the lack of antivirus is unnerving.

I consider anti virus to be a virus as they take up so much resources and send your files over to their servers

So, guys, these things are working again for me, and to be honest, I don't know why, because I didn't really get around to doing anything. I mean...

-I drew a pentacle on the middle of my floor in a sulfur/salt mixture and placed black candles at each of the points and lit them.

-I offered a small amount of my blood as a sacrifice

-I chanted something in Latin (I'm not really sure what it said)

-The computer screen did some weird things (I think it was the smoke) and then went blank.

-Oh yeah, right before the screen went black, it looked like there was a face, but idk, that might have just been me.

And when I turned it on again, everything worked just fine, if not better than before. So yeah, anyways...

(Lol, but seriously I didn't do a damn thing to get this working again)

I'm probably too late, but Microsoft Security Essentials works great for me. It uses little CPU, so it doesn't get in the way of things like Gaming and Converting Videos.

Glary Utilities is also good because it gets rid of dead shortcuts, start-up entries, and registry errors that slow down your computer. Malwarebytes is great if you actually got a virus, however it won't do anything to prevent you from getting them.
