Regarding the chat room

Greetings, salutations, and good day everypony; this is your friendly neighborhood SpiderZoop here with a general announcement regarding the on-site chat room.

 

Feld0 and I have spoken at length about some of the conduct in the on-site chat room as of late, and we have agreed that there has been a great deal of unbecoming conduct in it. Keep in mind, everything is logged, and those logs do get read.

 

So... what are we going to do in an attempt to mitigate these issues? To start with we're going to appoint several people as dedicated chat monitors - hopefully having a more widespread staff presence in the chat room will help to remind people that it is not a complete free-for-all. If that fails to bring about any positive change, Feld0 has proposed a slightly more scorched earth strategy for dealing with it...

 

By simply turning the thing off; temporarily, at first, and permanently if that does not work.

 

With that bombshell dropped, I would like to state as clearly as possible that killing off the chat room is not something that anyone wants to do. I enjoy the place quite a bit (when I haven't left the tab open on accident), and Feld0 had to pay to have the thing setup.

 

So, what can you do to help keep the chat going without any kinks?

Even though there is no reporting function built into the chat itself, you can still report members for inappropriate conduct inside of it. Simply click the troublemaker's avatar in the user list to reach their profile; there you will see in the bottom right-hand corner of their profile a 'Report this User' link. Simply copy/paste the lines in question that you are concerned about, and give us a general time and date that it occurred - it will then be investigated by a moderator as soon as possible.

 

if you think this is tl;dr, you should see the version I had before Feld0 suggested that I trim it down!

I feel bad for Feld0 sometimes... He goes through all the trouble of setting up an amazing chat (which I really need to use more...) and jerks get in it... I haven't ever encountered anybody acting mean (I haven't been in it as much as I'd like) but I've heard a lot of complaints. Hope it all gets worked out. I'd hate for a feature to be deleted.

As of now? No. If we continue to receive reports of poor chat etiquette? Yes.

 

For the most part, the way in which members conduct themselves inside the chat is wonderful, however, we need to ensure that this standard of behaviour is maintained at all times, regardless of who may happen to be in the chat at any given moment.

 

While we may have quite a diverse age demographic, always be mindful of the fact that these forums are intended to be accessible to members of all ages; Its up to all of you to act in a respectable manner, use common sense, and see to it that the chatroom remains as a friendly environment for everypony to enjoy.

It is not beople being mean or rude in the chat room, it is constant mentionings of NSFW. The main thing people need to keep in mind, is that if you wouldn't post a picture of it, don't show the text describing it either.

Just curious, about the NSFW content thing: Do references to certain infamous fanfics (Cupcakes and Sweet Apple Massacre to name a couple) fall under that? I only ask because people mention them fairly frequently in the chat.

"anyone want cupcakes? A friend of mine helped bake them! Let me get them out of my basement"

I don't think things like Cupcakes are too much of a concern for Feld0. The main thing I have seen going on is comments involving a sexual nature. I have seen somepony link to a Clopfic within the chatroom, luckily Zoop was there and just happened to take a gander at the chat, just after I informed the poster it was against the rules. I'm always worried what goes on in there, when there are no mods around to enforce things.

I know I have some role in the problems.

 

But the thing is,it is just because the topic leads to that.

 

And most of the people who are complaining have been on the topic of somethig like that before.

 

Being in the topic at that time and watching the chat are two different things.

 

So some of the people who are complaining have been apart of the N.S.F.W. stuff.

 

I personally know I have accidently done it before, but I always apologise afterwords.

 

But sometimes whenever I am just watching the chat, I see things that go on that even I say stop to (Like regarding clop.)

hello i posted this here before but it's gone now... i dont know how...

 

regarding the chat room.

 

i've been send away from the chatroom becouse me and some friends were roleplaying in the chatroom when no one was around.

after half an hour some guy showed up and told us to stop the (what he said) "RP bullshit." and that we were spamming the chatroom with that. since he was the only one complaining we ignored him in the beginning be he was making rude comments on our play. after bugging us for more then 15 minutes we desided that we should move becouse of him.

 

now my question is. am i allowed to roleplay in the chatroom? or is it consithered spamming?

 

and since we were with 7 people (we were with alot more then the people complaining about it) is it ok to be send away to a tread wich is needed to constandly beeing refreshed and all, or should we just ignore the person and have fun in the chatroom with friends?

 

this happended before so i would like to get an answere from someone who knows the rules of the chatroom better then i do.
