There was a thread that Alora made to judge other people's OCs, and I thought that we can all do it with each other on this thread.

 

Give critiques and whatnot, though please don't go overboard with it--be nice to each other.

 

Your OC must be original. It cannot be a Mary Sue--by definition meaning an overpowered character. Good grammar must be used.

I like your OC Clarity. She's a tad generic but I like her nonetheless. Her story is nice and though out and might I add she looks nice.

 

Here's my OC if anyone wants to check him out. I haven't actually made a personal OC yet and I only use this one for role playing. I was thinking about making a personal OC some time but haven't really gotten around to it. You'll have to do with this for now.

That's fine, because designs are an important part of OCs, too.

 

Here's my OC if anyone wants to check him out.

Your OC kind of seems like a MS in personality for me...no offense. :c You talk about his positive traits--friendly and nice--but were there any negative traits mentioned?

 

His design is nice, but a little too...zebra-like? XD It definitely stands out to me.

 

And occasional violent fits have been rather overused, so that's not quite original.

 

He also seems to be this huge hero who protects Ponyville all the time...umm, that's also overused. XD

 

Sorry, LF. Being honest here. >_<

Right, I just want to address something.

 

"mary sue" is such an overused word...Just because a character comes off as a "mary sue" doesn't mean it's inherently a bad character. I mean, hell, batman is one of the BIGGEST mary sues out there, yet everyone seems to love him (as do I, just saying).

 

Anyways, on topic.

 

I don't exactly have an "oc," at least not one that I actively engage others with in RP and discussion. The closest to an OC that I have is my avatar, a picture that I made of Jon Irenicus (from baldur's gate 2) as a pony. I got the idea to make the ponification make sense, so I decided to come up with a little backstory as to how he became a pony and ended up in equestria.

 

He's a villain in baldur's gate, an extremely powerful elven mage (who was exiled for crimes against his people) who sought after a power to make himself god-like, experimenting and torturing specimens with untapped power so that he might absorb them. Long story short, he gets the power he wanted, but is defeated by the hero of the game before his power was fully realized, where he was sent to hell and defeated again, trapping him.

 

My backstory basically says he escapes hell, through some devious, otherworldly means, but is caught by some overruling force, who punishes him for defying the natural order. He is stripped of his power, his form becomes polymorphed, and is sent crashing through dimensions, where he ends up in equestria as a unicorn (whose horn is partly disfigured, to represent his exile). He now spends his time trying to understand the new forms of magic that encompass the land he now resides, where he attempts to regain his lost power, capturing and experimenting on all forms of organisms to do it.

 

Anyways, that's the jiff of it. I'm not sure if that can be considered an "oc," but if I were to have any sort of "oc" that I would use to represent myself with, it'd be him.

 

Now that I think of it, that might just be more of a mascot that I'm thinking of...Ah well.

Um...I never said a "Mary Sue" is always a bad character.

It's my style of judging, anyway--I prefer to see characters with personality flaws and not too many "powers".

I like your OC--realistically flawed and not overpowered. However, there could be a better way to describe his personality instead of "he likes to" every line.

 

The design is quite nice; fits his personality well. The story of well he got his cravat was very sweet as well. i could easily imagine your pony strutting around looking superior.

 

A lot of information is missing, however, such as where he currently lives, but I understand that since you put his character profile so quickly.

Your OC is lovely as well. I can really see her as a designer. Although, I think she'd have a very different personality from Applejack. But as they say: opposites attract.

Backstory: Dusty was kicked out of flightschool his final year. This tragedy led to his gambling which slowly became who he was. He discovered he could never lose. He gained his cutie mark in gambling, this led to him being kicked out of the house, and him gaining a care-free personality. He lived on his own, and he was better off for it. Gaining money from slot machines, and betting on the street.

Hey, guys--the point of this thread is to judge each others' OCs and not let me do them all. ^_^

 

So...yes. Please give descriptive critiques, not just say "I like him because he's cute".
