gaming [Gaming] The Team Fortress 2 Thread

I used to play a ton of TF2, but around the time of the Mann. Co update I started to lose interest. So much was added all at once, and now the game is cluttered with weapons and items and hats and GAH! Why couldn't we just stick with the vanilla loadouts, and a single update pack for each character, like what was being done at the start?

Pretty much my opinion on the matter.

Honestly, and I know 'll get flak for this, I wish they had left TF2 as it was, and made a specific version that was "Free" to play. Call it something tacky, like "Team Fortress F2P" and have it be an entirely separate version, like a "kids" version or something, for the kiddie MMORPG crowd. Let them have their unbalanced updates and items while everypony else can have the TF2 they know and love. Everypony wins.

It requires some tactic, mind you!

A discovered pyro, is a dead pyro.

Not dead if you have shotgun.

I kinda know how to use degreaser, it's for babies IMO, if there isn't a wall, using Reserve Shooter is the same thing is there isn't a wall close, you get a kill quickly.

I was bemoaning the recent changes to TF2 in the past two years with a friend of mine yesterday. While I think the original set of hats and update associated weapons (e.g., Medic Update, Pyro Update, Heavy Update, etc.) were smartly done, Valve went overboard on cluttering the game with extra content. As a result, newcomers are almost instantly hapless due to the large assortment of weapons as a veteran's disposal. I can troll the hell out of newbies with the Saharan Spy set; while it's admittedly funny on my end, the target player probably isn't too terribly humored by my feigned death and sudden reappearance. How can a new player be prepared for that? Ultimately, they have to buy into the Mann Co. store system in order to keep up with everyone else. It's only F2P if you enjoyed being wailed on by long-time TF2 players.

Furthermore, the asthetics of TF2 have been disturbed. Valve emphasized the uniqueness of the art style and silhouettes when they first released the game. Now they've eschewed it in order to bog the game down with player created content. Aside from a few exceptions, most of the new additions aren't necessary. Either the TF2 team became too lazy to continually add their own content or they are trying to milk money out of the community. My bet is on both. Aside from this point: what happened to the unique art of TF2? It's been almost entirely obscured by silly hats and weapons. Character identification is essential to TF2: whether you're going up against a Pyro or a Heavy is critical in gameplay decision. Since most characters share obnoxious hats, however, it can be difficult to know with which classes you are dealing. I am astounded that Valve effectively jettisoned one of the most brilliant facets of TF2.

Now, you can call be a hypocrite for buying items and hats from the store. I probably deserve it after writing this short polemic. But, as I said, the game practically demands you buy items in order for it to remain fun. Random drops have devolved into being meaningless; players are more interested now in trading in the middle of a game. Could Valve not see this disturbing the game in some manner? It does, and it's annoying to have people standing around in spawn because they're haggling over hats. That's profoundly stupid.

I still love TF2, but Valve needs to stop making awkward jokes about loving hats because it actually has detracted from the game more than it has substantively added. I doubt they'll revise the system, though; the horse is out of the barn.

It's sometimes fun when the Steam servers are down and nobody can access their loadout. It forces players to use the vanilla weaponry. It reminds you of what TF2 used to be: a simple yet fantastically entertaining game about two teams of nine unique mercenaries blowing each other up and capturing control points.

Reserve shooter + Degreaser = 80% Switchtime. Holy moley. I find it rather okay for pyro. Is useful against scouts!

But keep in mind; a pyro is very limited in his combat abilities, seeing a pyro early on is usually puts the pyro to a huge disadvantage.

Pyro was made for support and attack, because he can ambush enemies or either, attack with the team, or various kind of attacks, not for airblasting and getting kills in 2 or 3 seconds, if the degreaser set can kill a scout, 1 pyro by itself can take down the whole team. And that's why they gave him/her a shotgun, if you get disadvantage, you can use shotgun, it's useful in any distance if you know how to handle the bullet spread.

I usually play as a Pyro, Scout, Spy, or Engi; it all depends on the situation and the map.

I'm usually a support Pyro, putting out my teammates, clearing control points, pushing aside Ubers, etc. None of that M1+W crap for me thank you. :P

I use a Gunslinger Engi when on offense, and only use it when on Defense if we're in dire need for some light firepower. When playing a defensive Engi, I tend to stick with the Southern Hospitality for my wrench.

I use the Spy mainly when defending, since the opposing team will usually have a less stable front to fight from. Giving me more choices when it comes to strategy.

Scout is just my turn-to class. When the going gets tough, I get to Scouting! Although I have found some good items for the Soldier recently and I'm starting to get pretty good with him, if I do say so myself. ;)

I was watching ponies and a playthrough of Penumbra Overture.

Legitimate reasons for staying up until dawn. Carry on.

That is a sign of the graphics card overheating, find out your specs, post them.

Try lowing your graphical setting and resolution while running a max fps config.

Try playing other video games, does it happen to them aswell?

how can i change it??? :D

Buy a video card...but I wouldn't jump straight to that, first I would try to reinstall TF2, but seriously if you want to play this game properly you are going to need a new video card...wait..scrap that you might need a whole new computer...

I dunno, he should be able to play just fine with that, if he gets a decent video card, of course.

Well TF2 runs on the source engine, based on an engine from 2004, when CPU's were more powerful than GPU's(thus the engine was cpu intensive), Apparently that is not the case today...

I don't think that the gpu is bottle necking the performance at the moment, but a mix of both CPU and GPU.

but anyway...why he might need a whole neck computer is the fact that, prettymuch all of it is outdated... Moore's law...

Sorry if this post is lacking in sense..I might need to better explain what I think I'm saying later when I am not tired as hell.

As Flare already said, It might be a graphical issue, but then again have you tried updating your computers drivers?

Eh, I was just going off that fact that his specs are similar to my laptop, the main difference being that I have a decent video card, and my laptop runs TF2 on mid-high specs just fine.
