Colt walked right behind Iron Wing it was interesting to watch her on her roll of guardian, she looked proud and strong a fine example of the guard gallantry. He was still unsecure about walking around a croud sohe kept on his four legs and covered his body and face with his wing-coat.
 

Colt, you are coming with me to the library...

 
The dragon smiled as Iron gave her orders, “she still looks cute while being so serious” were the words inhis mind as he carefully listened to the commands, he was not part of the guard but he would make her feelproud so he stood there with the presence of a full trained guard and an impeccable posture.

“Yes Ma’m I’ll escort you to the Golden Oaks ” he said with a respectful voice, he was trying to be on her level, and he wanted to spend another day with her it was just perfect. 
 

"I heard rumors that dragons can use their breath to send messages around, do you think you'd be able to send me a message if you two need help?  I can also send messages back with my magic if you would like."

Sky Warden couldn't help but smiled when Saphie offered that cake with a grin on her face. He took the cake and devoured it in one bite. Still with a full load of chocolate cake in his mouth, he sliced another piece of cake, bigger than the one Saphie gave him, and hoof it to her. He smirked and made a sly nod, as if he was giving her a challenge to eat more.

Her heavy hoove steps could be heared within a good distance so everypony who knew her was greeting. She got sight of the library and looked to Colt. Perhaps he wanted to say something, now that they were alone again?

 

But before anyone could say something the mail pony arrived. "Miss Iron Wing? Mail from Cloudsdale. Have a nice day!" he said, gave a letter to Iron and went off. "See ya around!" she answered and looked at the envelope. It had a stamp with the Clan sign of the Grayhooves on it. She just giggled and said something silent and put the envelope into her saddlebag.

They were finally alone… well not alone alone but now he could talk about his new discovery about her… Singing, “So what kind of music is your favorite” the dragon said as walking to the library. “You asked me back at the tower what is so special about singing and well…” he paused again and “A lot, I mean for me is something very special ” Colt kept walking by Iron’s side, but she could tell there was some sort of joy in his words.

He then blushed a little while saying “So yes Celes for me is special, is a way ponies have to share themselves and … this makes you even more special” suddenly he give her a soft quick kiss on her cheek, Colt didn’t wanted to be a bother to the authority symbol she was in that moment but he just felt the need to do it and he did it just before a messenger arrived.

 

 

She just giggled and said something silent and put the envelope into her saddlebag.

 

"What? what is it? what does it say?" Colt knew that was the reply from her parents or at least he was almost sure and the curiosity for the reply was itching inside him and with that cute giggle from her it went worse.

“So what kind of music is your favorite” the dragon said as walking to the library. 

 

"I have different kinds of music i like, from choir to electronic music is everything included." she answered to the dragon. But it seemed he was more interested with her music and her singing ability. She didn´t know how to explain to him the way she could sing. It was not her special talent, she had to learn it the hard way with a Clan singing teacher.

Celes hoped that Colt didn´t expect too much because she wasn´t able to judge if she could sing good or not. Within the Clan she was a good singer, but her teacher kept her to move forward to reach new levels. Because of the sometimes harsh way to teach, it wasn´t that fun to learn all the time. Her parents motivated her to do more than just sing the lyrics, but to sing from her heart. The complete family would never accept to specialize just on one talent.

Iron blushed by his sudden kiss on her cheek. And before she could respond the mail pony gave her the envelope. Colt continued asking about the letter she received. "Such a curious dragon!" she laughed and continued giggling, holding a hoove to her cheek where he had kissed her. "Let´s make a deal! I will sing a little song from my Clan teachings, and you will stop asking me about this letter! What do you say?" she stopped walking and looked into his eyes. "Since singing seems that important for you, i think that´s a fair trade." she said grinning. She didn´t tell him that she would have shown him this letter anyway in the evening, but it was fun to see him that excited and curious. It was kind of cute!

"Let´s make a deal! I will sing a little song from my Clan teachings, and you will stop asking me about this letter! What do you say?" she stopped walking and looked into his eyes. "Since singing seems that important for you, i think that´s a fair trade."

“O… she is good “ the dragon thought as he realized she was aware of his curiosity weakness still in his mind there was only possible answer for that but he was not going to let her go 100% her way. “She giggled as she read the note… then those are not bad news and there is no need to concern, so I can wait” were the words written by the dragons mind.

 

“Ok? So let’s do this, I choose your singing but with 2 conditions: The first. You will wait until we are alone on Ever Free, don’t get me wrong but something tells me you are kind of the shy singer, and I don’t want to listen your repressed voice. “

 

He walked in front of Celes and look her with a mischief look in his eyes “The second is that you will not sing a Clan song, you will sing YOUR SONG, that one that makes you a singer” he said with a spark of love and expectation in his eyes that Iron Wing could have spotted from miles away.

 

“Of course this is not a one way deal” he said with some pride in his voice “If you agree I will take you to a place you have never been to before and show you the sky in a way you have never seen it ” the spark was sitill there in his eyes pointing right at her. “What do you say Celes, do we have a deal?” were the dragon words as he extended his claw towards her looking to formalize the “transaction”.

Meanwhile, a few miles off where Sweet Apple Acres is located, Lasso Lad sits on a tree stump to take a break over bucking the trees to harvest the apples as he pants to take a breather. Even though it was never a task given to him by Applejack, he had to do so anyway in order to pick up a pace a little.

 

"Whoo boy, ah reckon' dat was a gosh darn chore... ah hope Arisaka's doin' fine a th' market in Ponyville. Ah'd hate to see his embarrasment." Lasso Lad comments himself, not noticing Spirit and Dawn trotting to Sweet Apple Acres as he focuses mainly on recovering himself from the extensive chore.

The dragon had something on his sleeve and she wanted to know all about the conditions and what he did want.

That was more a shock than a relieve for Iron Wing and her happy face expression faded. She never had sung beyond the Clan lyrics and she just knew the tales, the songs and legends that were brought from generation to generation. The lyrics she loved, shared and was proud of... Colt didn´t want to hear to them. He wanted to hear a song deep from her heart, a song that perhaps was sleeping inside her soul for a long time. But why now? She could not think about lyrics of an own song just by that within such short time. But there was something within his eyes that made her feel safe and sound, loved by the time within his range. She snorted a bit and thought hard. Her mind and her heart were starting a battle within, and her emotions were the battlefield that was chosen.

 

She closed her eyes for a brief moment before formulating an answer for Colt and his conditions. She was a bit hurt about not singing for the Clan, but on the other side, she knew that he didn´t intent to insult her. He just could not understand what the Clan meant to her. "He does not now why the Clan is that important for me... but he will understand tomorrow. Tomorrow will change everything!" she thought as her mind rapidly regained control over her emotions. The battle within her just had started, but she wouldn´t be a guard if she could not control herself. "Fine!" she just said with a rather serious expression on her face. This wasn´t a joke, a prank or funny at all. "Follow me and don´t fall behind!" she said straight and continued walking to the library. She didn´t want to hurt Colt, but the first important thing was to maintain her judgement on her duty, and the second to show him that it wasn´t an easy thing for her to exclude the Clan.

 

As she reached at the library, she entered it and looked around if everything was ok. Ponies were reading or lending books and scripts. It was very quiet and she did everything that was necessary to keep her volume down. After a short talk to the library owner Twilight Sparkle, she left the library and continued to walk to the Sweet Apple Acres. She had an eye on Colt which surely had something in mind, or perhaps he wanted to say something.

Colt was able to feel the change on Iron Wing’s mood here eyes were a window to her feelings and he knew it was something he said. His ears went down and the little spark in his eyes faded away. A chill went down to his spine and words just went away in a way he hurt her and that was the last thing he wanted.

"Fine!"

Her voice was cold and he just step aside looking like a foal who was scolded by his mother or teacher. He walk to her side looking to the ground with some pain and wondering two things “What did I do?” his mind asked “I just don’t know what went wrong ” and that wasn’t the worst part “How am I going to make her smile again?” Once again his lack of experience on the game of love showed and even if this was or not a big deal the dragon took it as such.

 

Colt waited outside of the Library with his ache as Iron spend some time in the library. His mind was confused and his heart eager to fix whatever he did. “Follow your heart right?” he thought and that turned to be the solution. “When you take something from someone you just need to give something back. Right?” he whispered to himself “So I just have to give” the simple mind on the love subjects took him that way and he only thought he manage to develop.

 

She finally step out of the library and the dragon made up his mind “time to dragon up”he walked towards her and at first he was only able to say something “Im sorry Celes” and it was true he never ever intended to make her sad. “I really don’t know what went wrong back there, and I suppose that saying this would only make things worst”. He said with a sigh “But I never wanted to hurt you… but I did” the dragoon shook his head as talking “I don’t know a thing about love or relations Celes, all of this was so away from my life I never thought of it, but now here we are and here are you hurt, the mare I love is hurt because of me and I can’t have that.”

“Im sorry Celes” and it was true he never ever intended to make her sad. “I really don’t know what went wrong back there, and I suppose that saying this would only make things worst”. He said with a sigh “But I never wanted to hurt you… but I did” the dragoon shook his head as talking “I don’t know a thing about love or relations Celes, all of this was so away from my life I never thought of it, but now here we are and here are you hurt, the mare I love is hurt because of me and I can’t have that.”

 

She snorted again and looked at him. Not as hurt as before but definitely not healed yet. Colt had told her something earlier that made her think hard and it wasn´t just solved by an excuse. She knew that he didn´t mean harm or wanted to hurt her feelings. In fact he wasn´t the one to blame, but it was more difficult. Her feelings demanded to think about a solution for the dragons needs, and on the the other side, her proud demanded to not exclude her Clan either. Colt had done something good in fact, for her to think and act without the teachings of her beloved Clan. But how to explain this circumstance to him? She thought about it before answering him, so some minutes past by while she was not answering him. Then she stopped suddenly and looked at him, judging from the top to the bottom. Celes sighed and he continued to talk to her.

 

 

The spark went back to his eyes and his heart raced inside his chest “ I took something for you and as far as I can understand I now can just give back. Forget that bargain and just get ready to what I told you, something you have never seen before” this ofcourse until they reach Everfree

 

"The true way of love, is to trust into your partner... I trust you with all the feelings my heart has to offer, Colt. But my mind is trained to live and to fight with the rules and the codex of my Clan. To exclude the teachings i learned there is the same as tearing apart my heart and demanding to feel love..." she explained. It was a bit harsh with an example like this, but it was the best way to show him what it meant to be a member of the Clan of the Grayhooves. "But i wouldn´t be a Grayhoove if i wouldn´t accept a challenge either..." she continued. "Therefore i will accept your conditions... if you listen to the complete song without complaining." she said with a proud voice and a red blushed face, playing with a hoove on the ground. It looked more funny than serious but Celes was sure that he got what she was getting at. She was nervous  but she would do it! On reaching the Everfree Forest, she would sing... something. Perhaps it would be a mix of own lyrics and a tune she had in her mind for a long time.

 

"I will sing... a song about what it means to be a guardian... what it means to be me..." she just whispered, silent enough to not heard by anyone, but loud enough for Colt to hear it. He was right, she didn´t want anypony hear her singing except Colt or her family. She continued walking in the direction of Sweet Apple Acres with a new forged power, surging inside her and making her more proud and stronger than ever. She would beat this challenge with everything she had! Her hoove steps tramped loudly like she was going into a great battle. "Don´t fall behind recruit!" she said jokingly and inviting to Colt with the intention to look up and follow her again to face this new hurdle.

“You don’t understand Celes I…” he stoped for a second trying to think the words to say to her but they just started to flow out of his muzzle “I never intended for you to change or go against yourself… I love you I love the way you are, your personality and teachings all of them are part of you, they forge you to become like this, like the mare I have fallen for.” For a second he stopeed and thought about himself and how the teachings and values from his family guided him through his life. “Don’t go against them or try to change Celes, I would never forgive myself if you changed because of me” he put his paws on her shoulders. “Grow, grow and show me how much brighter you can shine, let me help you on that and Im sure with that I will grow with you and become so much more of what I am now.”

 

The dragon didn’t wanted her to change or fight against her nature or teachings unless that was her true will “Change, grow or evolve as long as you are happy I will be there to help you Celes Iron Wing of the Grayhoove’s."

"Therefore i will accept your conditions... if you listen to the complete song without complaining."

 

“I would happily accept your terms and I would surrender to your conditions” there was still a little sadness coming from her but he was able to see that glint on her eyes that stole his heart.

 

"Don´t fall behind recruit!"

"Ma'm yes Ma'm" Colt stood on his back legs and started following her, he didn’t understood all of what was going on inside Iron’s heart and mind but he knew he will always be there for her. With a smile he ran to follow her gallop among the orchards that leaded to Sweet Apple Acres.

Celes looked at him with a determined expression and a smile on her face. "I am a pony that seeks to get stronger all the time, loved one. That is my character, to be the strongest guard in order to protect everyone i like and love. What fool would i be, if i can´t even face the challenge to sing a song?" she replied to him. Her eyes were glowing like her soul had catched fire to master this challenge. She wanted to to it now, and no one in this world would stop her now. But she was happy to hear that he loved her like the way she was.

 

 

“Grow, grow and show me how much brighter you can shine, let me help you on that and Im sure with that I will grow with you and become so much more of what I am now.”

 

Iron stopped for a moment and looked with irritated eyes at him. What the... did he tell that from his heart? She started grinning at him, now even more pumped to get the challenge!  "Show how bright you can shine; let hunger for greatness be divine; for your sake do never stop and never turn; until you shine with your soul to burn..." she replied and looking at him. "That´s a quote of the Grayhoove teachings." Celes told him. She wasn´t angry at him, these sentence gave her more courage than ever! She continued walking to the Sweet Apple Acres and slowly it got in her sight. She wondered if Dawn and Spirit were there already or if Colt and Celes had to wait for them.

Those words pirced the dragon heart in a very deep and cold way he felt a void inside him when she pronounced those words. “The strongest” Colt despised that word, it has taken so much from him, from others and now the owner of his heart was He wanted to stop her to say something but he was frozen his voice didn’t ever crack “Stop, stop it stupid dragon” his mind break in “She is not them, she is talking about other things” he took a deep breath as she kept on talking. As her eyes burn he could feel her soul doing so, her smile shook him and the words she pronounced scared him… they really did “Sounds like them…” another deep breath as he fought to contain the fear sadness and anger inside him “But she is NOT them!” a scream inside his head ended the ill feelings as she told him the source of those words.

 

She galloped away towards the farm for a second his mind picture her fading but he came back to his senses “Follow your heart Colt, and your heart is where she is” were the words in his mind

 

We walked slowly thinking of his past and of Iron Wings words “This was never a challenge” he whispered as slowly walk towards the Apple’s farm.
