Because they're background ponies, they rarely do much talking or anything anyway, just standing around and the very rare occasional line of dialogue. They could be a cannon couple for all we know as 'canonically' we know nothing much about them at all.

Though I really wouldn't care if DerpyxDoctor became canon as long it's properly developed and not an asspull. But I would highly doubt anything past a platonic relationship if they were officially made a recurring part of the show.

Man, I would love that so much, but it'll never happen, not in a million years (though there was that one shot of them walking together in "Hearts and Hooves Day" but really, that's the closest we'll ever get to canonizing the two in the show).  I'm happy with it just existing in the fanon, it's awesome as it is.

Well I highly doubt it'll actually ever be cannon really, honestly any relationship between background ponies isn't likely. We don't even know if Derpy is going to be staying in the show for S4 or not. Regardless I have no real problem with it, but it'll probably never happen because background ponies are well.. Background ponies, they won't be getting an episode for sure. They hardly get speaking lines, the shows about the mane 6 for the most part, so it won't really follow any background ponies stories mostlikely.

 

I'd be ok with the concept and all, but its just almost impossible for the likelyhood for it to be cannon, Derpy being Cannon already had issues in the past anyways.

The doctor and rose weren't a couple. (in fact, rose had a boyfriend) I don't see doctor whoves as that kind of pony. They are just background characters though, and I'd rather not over analyze things like I usually do.

But the doctor IS her friend in the background world! So that makes him her only friend probably. The doctor doesn't have a girlfriend because he's always on the move. But derpy will always be there forbhim

Honestly, no. They're just BG characters, who have very little part in the show. Always hated the pairing anyway.

Oh I know that. But that was in response to the fandom, rather than the fandom responding to the show. The ship existed before then.

As several others have been saying, no- they're just background characters and I don't feel that they should be promoted to anything beyond that. I don't personally ship them (hehe I'm more of a FlutterWhooves fan- by random incident), but I respect those that choose to.

I just don't feel it'd be wise if the writers gave the background characters their own episodes. It just seems a tad ridiculous in my opinion. xD
