A question for the DJ's here.

I've been writing music for some time now, and I'm looking into buying a mixing setup for live performances. What do you guys recommend for a mixing deck? I bought a Numark Mixtrack Pro a while back, but the buttons weren't mapped properly to the software they included with it. (That's what I get for buying a cheaper deck I guess, but *yay* for Guitar Center's return policy!)

The obvious answer is to go with the industry best, aka 4 Pioneer CDJ 2000-Nexus media players and a Pioneer DJM 2000 Nexus mixer. Sadly, I don't happen to have an extra $10,000 handy.

Pioneer CDJ-Nexus setup example:

I'm currently in a competition to win one of these, so if I win then I won't have to worry about it:

However, the chances of me *actually* winning are fairly slim, so I want to know: what do you guys use? (Mixing equipment, speakers, and headset choices.)

More importantly, you like the performance of your equipment, or have you come to dislike it?

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Wait, are you looking for something specifically made for people who write music? or is it just to make mixes and perform in public? I was ok with mixtrack pro though. Few of those buttons like the repeat buttons and the cue annoyed me a bit but it's a nice toy to start with, I didn't actually buy it yet , just borrowed it from a friend.

May be the Vortex or the Hercules controllers? but damn, they're small, it's just for the poor people, like me :<

If your a guy who "makes" music, then try something like Launchpad or MPC, especially if you have abelton ( FL Studio 11 will also have this feature ).

I write music, and now I'm looking for hardware to do live performances with family, friends, maybe a con' or two...;) I own FL Studio 10 Signature Edition, and I also own Adobe Audition CS6.And I agree with you, those controllers are small...I like having a larger area to work with. It costs more money up front, but they seem to be a better choice overall.

One more thing, if you've never used DJ controllers before, don't get CDJs or Turntables, get Hardware controllers such as tracktor

So I've heard. I own Virtual DJ Lite and Mixxx, so I'll probably get a controller that runs Serato, Tracktor, etc.

I personally would recommend going for Pioneer controllers. They're more expensive, but they're really high quality build and function very well, from what I've played around them.

There's a really good deal for them on Amazon, and

Yeah, like I said in the OP, I'd love to get Pioneer equipment (as in the CDJ series), but they're terribly expensive...and as a college student, I don't have much in the way of extra money. Posted Image
