Sombra's Stand - A Fully Orchestrated Cinematic Piece

After two weeks of work, which actually is a really short time considering the circumstances, it's finally here.

I'm not normally one to brag, but...
This song is astounding. To me. I have never created a song this professional. 
Having recently acquired East West Quantum Leap's Symphonic Orchestra, I am now able to create much more high quality orchestral sounds, tracks and instruments. 

Now the issue; This is my first fully orchestrated composition, thus it is definitely not at it's best. It could be SO much better if I know more about orchestral composition, and that is why I analyze orchestral cinematic pieces often, but for a first attempt I think this is pretty good. 

 

The story behind it

Now this song was actually written to have a story within it. You might not be able to tell, but the song is based on the story Celestia told of Sombra's previous defeat, one thousand years ago.

 

Act 1: 0:00 - 1:28: Prelude

This place, I imagine in an animation would be a look at the Crystal Kingdom and Canterlot, the princesses, etc. Not much would happen.

 

Act 2: 1:28 - 3:04: New Reign

Sombra has taken over the Crystal Kingdom, and Celestia and Luna have just heard about it. They are preparing to go to the kingdoms aid, and Sombra begins transforming everything into how he wants it to be.

 

Act 3: 3:04 - 4:10: Saviors

The princesses are on their way and begin making their way through to the castle/palace at the center of the kingdom. Sombra realizes this and prepares for battle.

 

Act 4: 4:10 - 5:51: Stand

Celestia and Luna have arrived at the palace and are heading for the throne room. Bursting into the throne room, a classic villainous discussion filled with flashbacks and references ensues, and shortly following as the song hits its climax, a battle of magic begins and the princesses are put to the test. As the song draws to a close, and Sombra is defeated, he makes one final effort to make the princesses pay, and is sealed under the ice.

 

I hope you all enjoy this song as much as I enjoy making it, and I hope you will support me in my future development and learning as a composer.

Is this your first orchestral composition? wow you sure can manipulate some music softwares! but it didn't feel very orchestrical to me :/ I don't know how to explain it, it felt like artificial music, though I enjoyed A LOT the melody.

 

Overall, it's a impecable beautiful piece, that I enjoyed very much. But I DO have some critiques:

 

• I felt that the music and melody can fit Sombra, Luna and Celestia battling for the Crystal Empire. But at the same time I couldn't feel like THIS music belongs to sombra. I can easily take this music and paste it in another scenario. What I am saying is that I didn't feel Sombra's personality imprinted in the music.
• The drum rolling from 3:05 to 3:07 sounded weird to me, like it didn't belong or wasn't excecuted well.
• I expected the song to "explode" more in 3:08, I expected more string and air instruments, deeper percussions, because it felt like the climax of the song.
• The pause in 4:10 was too prolonged.
• The start in 4.11 was too abrupt.
• If the song had it's climax in 3:08 then I feel misplaced the calm melody at 4:15. I mean, that part was too prolonged as well, or at least that's my opinion. (though the melody was beautiful! <3)
• The chunk from 4:55 to 5:52 was so beautiful <3, but you should've trimmed it, it was too long. I liked how it ended.I would like it much more if you put this part by 4:06 or so.

 

You are more than welcome to ignore my critiques, I know nothing about music but I have  a good ear. However, I must say that I feel inspired to create music and that maybe is not as hard as I think.
