Christian bronies: meet, greet, and mingle!

So I'm reading about bronies online and I find this absolutely illogical article that, judging by the comment section, isn't satire. It's the most illogical non-satire Christian article I've ever read. I got a laugh out of this one. http://apologeticsministries.com/5-reasons-why-god-hates-my-little-pony/

What the hell. Even.

I'm going to start a church someday that is against this kinda bs.

Watch your language; this is a Christian topic after all.

I do agree with the sentiment though. It would behoove some people to adopt less superstitious, sensationalist views on living the life like Christ.

What are your thoughts on the concept of Multiverse? Do you think it is plausible? From what little I've been looking into it, and the petty knowledge acquired... in my opinion it would be pretty plausible as a way for showing God being someone with no beginning or end.

I don't know. I may as well be completely wrong..

I am not really optimistic about this theory.

My problems with it are that it looks like an excessively complicated hypothesis to explain certain things, and that it cannot really be tested or verified by any means.

I think it is a gratuitous assumption to try to explain things like randomness and free will, and on the top of that it violates the principle of conservation of mass/energy (first law of thermodynamics) as theoretically a new universe is created with every branching decision, and also this would means a decrease of entropy (against the second law of thermodynamics). One cannot just assume that two of the more fundamental principles of science are wrong so your hypothesis is correct, prior that it is necessary some solid evidence that they do not work instead of assuming they do not. I could be wrong, though.

Anyways, it is interesting how some assume that there are other universes that work on different laws than our own. From that, it isn't too far fetched to think about some spiritual reality. But for me the spiritual reality is a completely separated reality of our own, and not a separated universe withing the same reality.

How is everyone's week going? :D

My week was slow so far. I had not slept well because I went to bed very late, then next day I end up tired and unmotivated. As a result, my mind got scattered. This is why I wasn't very active on the forums this week. However, now I am trying to reorganize my sleep schedule :). But apart from that, I am doing fine. :D

On college, I have been supervising a grad student on our laboratory. I am teaching him how to do his syntheses and how to use the equipment. It is the first time I am supervising anyone, so it is a bit daunting, but everything is going well!

On home, I have started playing Minecraft, thanks to @Incognito Bandito who taught me the basics of the game, he is an awesome teacher ^_^. I am learning fast, and I have built my home base on an island close to my spawn point. Yesterday, I was exploring a mine and I dug an ore from a block that had lava behind... It burned me and all my equipment, so this was quite a learning experience :P. Now I have learned to never dig close to a lava bed, and it is better if before I dig a block while I am on an upper level so the liquid won't hit me if there is some.

I also started playing Civilization V, thanks to @Blue's recommendation. I didn't get very far yet, I have only played the movement and exploration tutorials, I have much to learn yet. But the game looks very interesting so far :D

See you guys around! :)

  • 2 weeks later...

I have been posting on this thread for a while, and even made a couple of good friends here, like @Blue, @LittleMac, , @Royal Bro-nee, @Steel Accord, and @Sudo Krenton. But I had not made an introductory post here on this thread. So here it goes ^_^

Hello! My real name is Tiago. I am 31 years old, and I live in São Paulo (Brazil). I have a Bachelor and Masters degree in Chemistry, and I am currently pursuing my doctorate.

The first time I heard about MLP:FiM was back in 2012 (or 2013, I don't remember well). I have stumbled into its TV Tropes page while casually browsing the site. Its description got me interested, but at the same time the hype made me avoid it for a while.

I have only started watching it regularly since last year, when I found it on Netflix. My favorite episode is also the one that got my mother into the show: Apple Family Reunion. We could identify some similarities of Apple family with ours, my mother especially identified herself with Granny Smith :D.

My favorite pony is Fluttershy, who I identify in terms of personality. I am the quiet one, and I am quite shy.

sig-4088571.IOVDYCb.jpg

Another character who I identify is from another show, Wander from the Wander Over Yonder show, who is in my avatar. He is an insufferable optimist, and so am I, and even when things get down he find a positive way out of it.

About the religious side of things, I am Catholic. I think I have always formally described myself as one, but it wasn't until around 2010 that I have started taking it more seriously. I was raised Catholic, I was baptized, did my First Communion, and the Confirmation. Nothing of this was forced, and I liked it. However, in my teens I took some distance of the church even though I never stopped believing.

Around the time I got to college, I have also started learning more about my faith. I also found there on my first week a Bible study group. Thanks to all of this, my faith started making much more sense than what it seemed at first, and slowly through the years I started gradually getting closer to the faith again.

I am very friendly and approachable, feel free to add me on Skype (tiago.paolini) and Steam (sunwalker_silver). :)

I'll just run for my life now as this entire thread throws bibles at me...XD

If you actually read it, you'd see just how few of us take the Bible seriously. It's just a book after all. An important book, but a book nonetheless.

Besides why would you "run for your life?" You posted on this thread. That's like inviting someone to your home for dinner than accusing them of trespassing.

Third of all, "I would like to talk you about Jesus" is probably one of the single most uncomfortable things you can say even to a Christian. Jim Gaffigan makes a joke out of that!

"You could say that to the Pope and he'd be creeped out. 'I'd like to talk to you about Jesus!', 'Hold it freak, I keep work at work."

Don't worry! The Bible is quite big and heavy and that could hurt :P

Seriously, though. Everyone here is very friendly. There were on the previous pages a few circumstances in which non-Christians came here to talk, sometimes even about non-religious subjects, and everything went in a calm and civil manner. This thread isn't supposed to be a private club or anything like that :)

Maybe, if you want, you could also write here a short introduction about you. ;)

No I know exactly what you mean. Ironically I have the opposite. My parents are deeply religious, but they never really "raised me religious" if you catch my meaning. They just left it open for us, yet somehow three sons all found their way to worshipping a higher power, and our journey's there were our own not inherited.

This show has indeed brought me closer to God.

Paul's influence in the Roman empire back then was amazing. I love the classical culture to think how history has formed like that.

Oh yeah, the entire history of Rome is fascinating and really important considering that basically all of Western civilization, for good or ill, was touched and influenced by the Roman Empire.

There's a good reason for that.

Roman_Empire_in_96_AD.png

Although its also greek culture, romans just kinda developed from that, taking greek culture as its influence and developed it further. One can call it greek-roman culture that has influenced the west in most of western world history.

Also the fact that the dominant form of christianity back then was roman catholic type of christianity, the only other branch that wasn't heretical at the time was orthodox christianity. Protestantism became more of a norm at the end of medieval period with Martin Luther.

Basically ebionites, which was a form of jewish christianity in the 1st century didn't have as much significant results in terms of converts. Paul being a roman citizen had more influence, and manage to develop more churches etc. Pretty impressive to say the least.

Do you watch it in Portuguese, English, or English with Porto" subtitles?

I watch them mostlt in Portuguese, though Netflix offers all the options you listed. However I have watched them in English with subtitles a few times.

I got used to the Portuguese voices, so I find a bit odd to listen the ponies in English :P

I fell like our parents did the right thing. I really dident realize what my parents did for me when i was young, they put me in a good environment and tought me morals, but they did allow room for me to grow myself. but now that im really starting to truley make my religion my own i really respect what they did and dident do. when i find that speshal someone im going to raise my kids like my parents raised me. I can understand that it could be vary scarry to let your kids find Jesus with only a little push, I know my parents were, but to turely understand Christianity a soul must search for it himself to find what he is looking for. im still currently searching and probably will for along time cuz im really starting to question a lot of things in my life that ive never before. since becoming a collage student ive joined a small group with others through the church i go to. and its been the first time in like 8 years that ive really spoken to someone about my relationship with god. when i was younger i started to realy understand but as high school came around i was just so busy that i totally forgot about the 1 thing that maters. today was my 3ed small group meeting, and every one i go to... i feel something more

sorry, this sort of turned into me venting

Hello all.

I go to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, typically knowns as the Mormon church. There's a lot of misconceptions about our beliefs and negative stereotypes that exist, so if you want, I'd be happy to answer any questions.

That being said, I've come to appreciate religion a lot. If provides a sense of purpose and knowledge that philosophers have been questioning for years. It also helps me strive to be a better person and sets a moral fence that keeps me from doing things that may ruin my life. Without it, I could quite possibly be someone who does drugs, hangs out with the wrong people, and would likely have no understanding of my purpose and what I ought to do here in my mortal stay. From a philosophical/logical point of view, it makes no sense to me how reality can exist without the presence of a higher power. I know I actually have, as well as everyone else, a big amount of significance that I haven't quite understood yet, and the existence of an eternal life with Earth being a small moment in it seems to be much more true than a naturalistic worldview.

There are a lot of parallels between MLP and my religion that I've found. Being like Christ means to be friendly toward others, and MLP is all over friendship. Each episode contains its own morals that are prevalent in my church. The fact that I like this show and my religion so well shows to me that both contain truth and significance that have a lot to do with myself as a being, and that goes down very deep...deep into the realm of an eternal perspective on individuality.

MLP also has had me thinking philosophically a lot lately, and my philosophies tie in with religion a lot. Twilight's search to find herself is something that I can relate to. The same goes for many characters who seek to either change themselves or understand who they really are and what their destinies are meant to be. For me, that's something I find really cool, and I think that religion is here to help us find and seek out or very purposes, which are brought out in becoming like Christ.

I could talk forever about this, but that's enough for now. Just happy to see many like-minded individuals here as well :) there's only so much you can talk about on the secular forums of the site.

Seems like preachers today can't preach without yelling at you.

I get that impression a lot. In my experience, and I'm only speaking from my experience I must stress, the Churches I've been to have all had priests that were calm, wizened, even sometimes jovial men who spoke softly but communicated the lessons of God's love and how we should act in it with a dignified sincerity.

When I attended Protestant gatherings, they weren't "yelling" in the sense that they were angry, but there was a lot of loudness. Maybe it's just how people practice differently, but I like my time with God to be one of quiet, warm, comfort, not shouting at the top of my lungs from a contact high.

Then you aren't working with the right preachers. I talk to my priest on facebook and I've hung out with him over coffee. He's really chill and helpful, and doesn't dance around issues or censor himself. He's one of the few people I know IRL I can be completely open and honest with.
