"You bronies shove your show in our faces and spam about it"

I believe we've all heard this before. It was sort of true a while ago, but now, not so much. On all of the forums I go on, I haven't seen ANYTHING that could be considered" pony spam". Nothing. And yet people still use this as a weapon against us. Why? Why still use something that is no longer true?

In fact, I've seen more "pony hate spam" than brony spam. I've seen people just say "Go ____ a horse" irrelevantly on threads(which have nothing to do with ponies) that just happen to been made by a brony. So why can't people get over this?

For some bronies, they still do this. They are a bad part of the community and are responsible for a large part of the hate towards bronies. They jeopardize the integrity of the brony community with their ways of operating.

Respectable bronies do not spam.

Really? Besides the already spam and idiot infested 4chan and YouTube, I haven't seen anyone spam ponies.

I agree that respectable bronies do not spam.

ive heard this complaint before too, I think its now a defense mechanism for anti bronies to use. I rarely speak about the show unless I am 100% positive the person im talking to is a brony. and that's VERY rare haha.

I've seen several bronies who spam on other forums I use. They give us a bad name and a horrible reputation. It's really problematic and should be addressed more directly.

There is a small minority that does this and of course whoever is the loudest whether they are the majority or not will get the attention. It seems like most bronies are either in the closet or don't go out of their way to tell anyone but don't really go out of their way to hide it either.

The pony spam things dates back to the 4chan wars. Those of us who were in 4chan at the time know that the pony spam was simply us trying to get as many pony out as possible while the mods were asleep so they couldn't stop us. It may sound childish, but it was the opportunity we got.

While there are definitely some bronies who will post ponies on a topic irrelevantly, it no longer applies to the fandom in general.

Though it may be because I don't use forums very often(other than this one), I've honestly never seen any pony-related topics on a site that isn't directly geared towards bronies. I agree, I think the haters are just using blanks as their ammunition these days. (See what I did there... Because shooting blanks is pointless... They just make noise and don't affect anypony... Yeah. Geddit? Me neither)

There is no need for it. And people still do it! True bronies respect others and don't do this. I guess we just can't let it get to us.

Just a small minority being used as a reason to hate the vast majority.  It's true with any fandom.  But if I were going to get upset about somepony shoving stuff in my face, the last on the list would be someone pushing friendship and tolerance.

to be frank, spamming is counter-productive to finding new peeps for the pony culture and just creates more hate... you can't force ponies on others. now i know this is gonna sound alittle messed up, but; it's like that alcoholic, they have to find it in themselves to know they are an alcoholic. bearing that in mind, i became a brony on my own accord, no pony else.

Its just an old timey insult from a longer time ago when bronies kinda where known for spamming 4chan I guess. Really with all the brony forums around I don't see to many people posting ponies much less spamming them elsewhere, but I know it exists.

Still these are not very respectable bronies, and they do give us a bad name, because people generalize a whole group on what they've seen from them.

Then again even in bronies there is going to be some bad apples. We're not a perfect community of course, even if we're a really good one.

Alot of these bronies I doubt even are a part of a brony forum, some may be haters just doing it to make other haters hate us more. Who knows.

Unfortunately there isn't a whole lot we can do.

I haven't really seen much in terms of spam on other forums I think that was before my time.

I also wonder how much spamming is actually spamming or if some people are just sensitive. I wonder if in any places where people complain about ponies being shoved in their face, if it is a double standard. In theory, bronies should have just as much a right to display ponies as sports fans have a right to display their team's symbols, or fans of other TV shows/movie franchise fans displaying stuff about their fandoms. Some people consider any ponies "spam", simply because they can't stand ponies, and they consider any ponies period too many ponies.

The problem we face is that it is always that annoying minority that stands out. It's the same for other fandoms. If you take for example the furries... the real bad ones are what people know because thats what they find when they search it and the chance to come across them is bigger, because those who are annoying are also mostly those who are most present.

A spamer will be present on all areas of a forum and a respectable brony will keep to the topics he finds interesting. So you will more like recognize the spamer.

I used to "spam" my interest of MLP, but not online. Back when the brony fandom was just beginning, my friend and I would put up paper cut-outs of ponies from the show on random lockers and bulletin boards around the school. At the time, we were immensely pleased with our deviousness and refusal to let the rigid social expectations of our high school bring us down.

Looking back, I'm glad that we did it. It probably got some non-bronies interested in the show in a way that wasn't too obtrusive or obnoxious, and for the people that were annoyed by it, well...they don't have to look at the pictures if they don't want to, right? We only put up about 7 of them.

When people dislike something that has very diverse support (i.e. it may not be the majority, but pick any random group and most likely you'll find a few) then even rare and casual references outside of dedicated sites seem like "that group is shoving their opinion in my face everywhere I go!" I mean, I won't accuse anybody of REAL spam, but add up every time you used an MLP meme (e.g. 20% cooler), multiply it by the number of pony-related things you also displayed (avatar, signature, etc.) and think about if you saw that number of posts saying "CoD is the best game ever!" in the comment section of an MLP episode or music video. That's how it feels to people who actively hate bronies when they see posts like that.

I'm not supporting that mentality, it's basically like saying "I shouldn't need to find websites that I like, the website I'm on should change until I like it!" but if you're not watching out for it anybody can fall into that trap.

I get really sad when I think of the people who spam like that and give the rest of us a bad name. I also get sad when a hater uses that against us because we have no argument against that other than, "Not all of us do that. Only some."

When they use stuff like that against us, I can't help but think, well what the heck can we do about that? We can't control other people's actions! I mean, sorry you got spammed, dude, I would be annoyed too but, what the heck do you expect me to do about it?!

Anyway, I just think it sucks that we have to struggle for a good reputation while our very loud-mouthed brethren are making that very hard for us. You know?

How would we address it? As united as we are, we don't have much of a pan-fandom forum. Even group voted decisions would only be for this site.

We operate like a proto-meritocracy, musicians, artists, scientific speakers whatever one does in the Brony community. There have been bronies who have distinguished themselves in their arts to advance to a sort of higher "tier" of recognition. The best way to effect change might be to contact somepony like Everfree Radio, EQD, Saber Spark, or Paleo and get them to hear your case. It's like mailing your senator, only instead of being voted into office, the "senator" earned the position through the quality of their work and natural charisma.

Would it work on a national level? Tough to say, but it's worked for us so far.

No offense, but I've seen people say similar things about the fandom lots of times now. You do realize that the show isn't finished the third season yet. The "old timey longer time ago" was basically pretty much just last year. People are talking like "The good old days of the fandom" were like ten or twenty years ago. That's just plain silly. It's like a child saying "That happened last week, when i was just a little kid!".

Yeah I know, I didn't mean any offense to it or anything, I just don't know what to refer to the 4chan days when bronies where just starting out as. it was then that the bronies started the whole Spam pony's thing while mods slept.

To be fair though I am a relatively new brony, I've only been one for like 6 months, so I don't really have a good reason to take offense anyways :P.

Sorry if that rubbed off the wrong way though, I'm not always the best at wording things.

I hear this all the time on the internet and I'm so sick of it. It's not like we're literally shoving it in their faces! Yeah, there are a lot of pony memes, forums, art etc on the internet, but that doesn't mean they have to click on it and start trolling... They only use the whole 'shoving' thing because it's the only thing they have to use against us, btw. Because clearly, there's nothing wrong with liking the show enough to participate in the brony community.

>4chan

Although people spam on 4chan, we still owe it to the members that brought MLP into the spotlight, which brought a lot of us to start watching and loving the show.  Would the show be this popular if 4chan didn't bring it into the spotlight?  That's a very interesting question and I'm 50/50 split on yes/no.  Sorry for the tangent.

They do have a /mlp/ forum that posts "adult" pony pics, which is stuff I'm not interested in.  Thank goodness they filter that stuff.
