Cutie Mark Chronicles. Why?

1) The fillies are freaking adorable.

FANMADE_Twilight_Sparkle_filly_dancing.g

2) The sonic rainboom in Dashie's story was freaking awesome, and one of the most happiest moments evar in the show. I always have approximately the same sized grin as Dashie did during the rainboom after watching that scene. :D

3) The backstory for the Mane 6. These flashback scenes allowed all six characters a huge amount of development in a really short amount of time. We get to see what their lives were like before moving to Ponyville, as well as what they were like as fillies, which is always interesting.

May the Best Pet Win is awesome, mostly due to the song and the climax. Fluttershy seemed a bit out of character completely letting Rainbow put her pet choices in danger but that was basically my only nitpick.

Cutie Mark Chronicles however is by far my favorite season 1 episode. Not only because of the adorable fillies, but we also got background story moments and some of my favorite lines in the whole show-

:) "And that's how Equestria was made!"

B)  "You'd never guess, but when I was little I was very shy. And a very weak flyer."

:D  "A ROCK?! That's my destiny?! What is your problem, horn? I followed you all the way out here for a ROCK?!"

Also the ending was adorable and made perfect sense.

 "And that's how my vote was made!"

What's this? A round three match where the one I want to win actually will? Me, bitter about Sleepless In Ponyville? Of course never!

I actually loved the "double Dash", but IsortakindapreferedTheMysteriousMareDoWelldespiterationallybeingworse. Besides, the fillies of each of the Mane 6 are so adorable, and in terms of worldbuilding, The Cutie Mark Chronicles is probably the most important episode in the series after episodes 1-2 and remains a classic.

May the Best Pet Win is a really underappreciated episode imo, mostly because most of the complaints like animal abuse gotta be some of the most retarded nitpicks I've ever heard

While Cutie Mark Chronicles has a lot more going for it, MtBPW needs my love

I have a soft spot for May the Best Pet Win, so I voted for it.  I'll admit, after reading the above responses I kind of regret it and will fully admit that Cutie Mark Chronicles probably is the superior episode, but seeing as CMC currently has 9x the votes of MtBPW, chances are that it will win anyways despite my vote.  Though, in the unlikely event that it ends up losing by exactly one vote, I am very sorry.

This is the first match of round three that's becoming a rout.  I really like May the Best Pet Win because of Fluttershy, Rainbow Dash, and the animals.  But to pit it against The Cutie Mark ChroniclesIt doesn't stand a chance.  Besides the all important backstory information TCMC provides, it also wins with numerous entertaining moments and shows that you're meant to cross paths with certain people in life's journey.  Most of all, TCMC illustrates why cutie marks are a more important coming of age event than puberty in pony culture:  Puberty tells the world what you are, but your cutie mark tells the world who you are.  :)

Both of them were great episodes but The Cutie Mark Chronicles did so much more for the show. It revealed how the mane six got there cutie marks, essentially explaining why they are who they are. So, I'll go for it.

Ooh, shoot. This is actually really tough. I liked both of the two parters, but I feel like The Return of Harmony was a bit stronger as an episode. Sort of like A Canterlot Wedding is an action movie and The Return of Harmony is a really good book. Wedding really catches your attention with the cool fight scenes, songs and visuals, but the plot of Return was probably better overall. It balanced the focus between the Mane Six decently well and had a perfect mixture between heartwarming, tragedy and comedy. I love that episode and it gets my vote.

Inexplicably first again :)

I regret nothing

I love both part 2s, but Discord alone makes Return of Harmony get my vote

That's a very, very cruel decision. You have the two best two-part finales, and the two best parts from the two finales.

In the end, I think Return of Harmony has to take this one - it brought in the highly anticipated new season really well through humour, we could all enjoy hearty laughs at Spike the Rainbow Dash, Tom the Rock and "This may look like fun... but it's not!"

I have other reasons, too, but it's early in the morning and I already know which one takes my vote. I feel boring like that. It's the most enormous shame to see A Canterlot Wedding go out, though, because it was equally classic, even though Return of Harmony appealed slightly more to me.

May Return of Harmony triumph!

I've already ranted about my singular problem with Canterlot Wedding part 2.  I still like the 2-parter as a whole, but that one little thing was really irritating (I should just get over it, but I can't...).  I did not have such a problem with Return of Harmony, and Return of Harmony also has Discord.  Return of Harmony easily gets my vote.

Really hard for me to pick between two great 2-parters. The Canterlot Wedding had the mix of plot twists, fighting scenes, and the emergence of manipulation and a new villain. The Return of Harmony, which had my favorite villain Discord really delivered with playing as a villain and displaying the Mane 6's anti Elements of Harmony.

I'd have to say The Return of Harmony.

A Canterlot Wedding. I know The Return of Harmony introduced Discord, but it lacked certain victory of the mane six throughout the episode. The ending to A Canterlot Wedding was probably the best ending to anything T.V. related that I've ever seen.

Inexplicably first again :)

Dash, what's the deal? Do you stay up late at night just so you can be the first to pounce? :P

In the interest of full disclosure, I did have an opportunity to be the first to reply to a tournament match up thread. But because it was after midnight, my brain was too sleep deprived to come up with decent comments.

I'm almost at the point where I want to flip a coin. We're pitting the best parts of the best two-parters in the series against each other. What I like the most about The Return of Harmony is how it showed true human (and pony) nature. It irks me to no end when some people say Discord “made them evil”. Saying he “corrupted” them is much more accurate. Discord didn't make anypony evil, he simply disabled the qualities that made them good. And what was left were things like deception, sarcasm, greed, cruelty, resentment, and despair.

On the other hand, A Canterlot Wedding has so much going for it too. The central theme of MLP:FiM is that true friendship makes our whole greater than the sum of our parts. The same can also be said about true romantic love which Cadance and Shining Armor demonstrated in a convincing way. It was also refreshing to see the bad guys defeated by something other than the Elements of Automatic Win Harmony. Speaking of that, it is only a matter of time before the Mane 6 fires the Elements of Harmony of an enemy...and it fails. It might happen in the Season 3 finale, sometime in Season 4, or maybe a movie. It's only a matter of time and it will require the Mane 6 to do something very clever to achieve victory.

Oh well, I'm out of time. I'm casting my vote for A Canterlot Wedding and let the chips fall where they may.

This is a very difficult one to pick >.< But if I had to pick I'd have to say Canterlot Wedding just by a tiny bit. I just found Chrysalis more interesting than Nightmare Moon. The ending was brilliant and 'Love is in Bloom' is definitely one of the best songs IMO, in addition it finally revealed Vinyl Scratch's eye color ^.^

Wait...you're asking me to pick between the two?! But they're both so good! Return of Harmony was the best way to begin the season and A Canterlot Wedding (especially the second part) was the best way to end the season. Uhh...flip a coin maybe? No...uh...this is cruel and unusual punishment I tell you!

Well, as much as it pains me to say this, I'm going with A Canterlot Wedding for this one. While both had near identical excellent points, the finale had one thing Return of Harmony didn't: the songs. For the songs alone, A Canterlot Wedding just barely passes by and gets my vote.

Two great episodes, without a doubt. However, I like Return of Harmony a lot more. It had more comedy, more suspense, a better evil plot, and a better villain. And even though Discord isn't a villain anymore, I still like him more than Chyrsalis.

I loved both these two partners, and each individual episode. I had to edge it with Return of Harmony though, just slightly. I love the ways they find and convince each mane six member to return, and Discord has more history and personality than Chrysalis, even if her physical design is better.

Plus, pathway made of soap. Very funny little scene.

I liked Return of Harmony mostly due to Discord (although to be honest, it's kind of shallow to like an episode just because of a character it introduced), Flutterb-I mean jerk, and Twilight's heartwarming realization about how much she truly needed her friends when she reread all of her friendship lessons.

However, Canterlot Wedding took the epicness and emotional aspect of Return of Harmony and just ran wild with it. Although it's much more serious and had a more generic villain than Return of Harmony, is that necessarily a bad thing? It suited the very Disney-ish tone, and overall it had to be one of the best episodes for me on an emotional scale. This Day Aria gave me chills, and had to be one of the best voice acting moments in the show for me (her voice actress' singing was so believable and so full of emotion, and made me instantly like and sympathize for Cadance). The action had to be the best this show has had so far as well. This is seriously one of my favorite episodes, and I could rant on and on about it, but basically yeah. It's awesome.

I think that The Crystal Empire gets way too much flak, but I have to vote for Too Many Pinkie Pies. It actually portrayed a surprisingly deep inner conflict for an episode that I thought was going to be nothing but chaos and comedy. The visuals were great, and we even got to see my favorite tortoise again! Success! Overall though, this episode really went above and beyond what I expected from it and reminded me of why I love this show :). It has a special meaning to me. Plus, development for my second favorite character is always nice.

If you stuffed a light year of love into every grain of sand on the Earth, multiplied it by a million, powered it by the distance of Voyager 1 and then compressed it into a metre cubed and filled the Library of Congress with copies of it, you'd be looking at about roughly 2% of my love for Too Many Pinkie Pies. It's not just in a league of its own, but in a universe of its own. You could give me any single second of this episode, any single frame, and it alone would be nothing short of perfect. It is the reason that we even have cartoons - the pure entertainment value and zaniness, the deep yet innocent philosophy, and the open embrace of the cloning story. It destroys the re-painted stereotype of Pinkie Pie being mere comic relief, which I am so appreciative of, the capers of all these clones is exactly the sort of thing you'd get in the 90's cartoons we all know and love, the setting of Ponyville is colourfully established to add open-spirit cartoon feel... I could go on forever, and I probably will in another post.

One of the best pony was good enough. Add another sixty, and you've made this man very happy.

I'd give my soul to the triumph of Too Many Pinkie Pies.
