How did your family/friends find out you like MLP or how did you tell them about it?

How did your friends/family find out about you liking the show?

For me, I have a pretty basic story. My friend Jaden is the only one who knows. Or does he? The story is, one day in math class, we were calculating prices using thanksgiving items. We had to go onto the Kroger site, and some of us were having technical difficulties, but luckily, we had been on the site the day before. The solution was to go to your history, scroll back to the working version of the site, and click on that. Jaden was walking around and helping people. When he was helping me, he saw all the pony videos I had watched in my history. And trust me, that was ALOT. He just laughed it off, and he never said anything about it.

But enough about me. How did others find out about you? Was it a big deal? Or did they brush it off? Do they all know? Or do only some know? Or do any know at all? Feel free to share your story, however weird it may be.

Nothing is impossible. You're just doing it wrong.

Remember kids, it's not illegal if you don't get caught.

I don't think anybody in my family knows, and if they do, I don't know about it.

A long time back, I had bought my first merchandise; I was enthused, especially with my first piece of merch being pony.

It was Daring Do, 13" tall.

When it arrived in the package, my mother opened it and stared at it inquiringly.

Later, I found it on the counter, and when I went to pick it up, she stopped me and asked me if I had thought it was worth it.

I told her, "Yeah, I think it's very worth it."

"You think this is really worth $25.00?"

After repeating a couple of times, she got really angry at me and left.

To this day, I still have it wrapped in the packaging under my bed.

I'm unsure of why I got the reaction I did, especially with me buying it with my own money of course.

But if anything, my mother thought most of the price, not of the actual content.

She didn't think much of it.

As for others around me, I've met a couple of bronies and pegasisters, so they obviously know. They found out by me talking to them.

My best friend may know, but I'm unsure; I'm involved in a group that makes things for the fandom, and he may have found out some point or later due to curiousity.

Basically, nobody that I know around me really knows that I am a brony.

Back in 2011 my mom saw my mlp background on my comp

my dad found out, and I didn't know how but I concluded that my sister told him, who must've figured out from my cousin because my cousin saw me on an MLP forum (my sister and cousin were super tight back then when we lived down in south florida)

Although they've only asked about it once, when they found out. (my mom asked me about the background and my dad asked me over the phone) and have not mentioned it since, at all. I think they might've forgotten...

Either I've told them outright or it came up in conversation for no real reason. I don't quite care who knows I like MLP. I don't talk about it with people who don't care about it and it's simple as that.

I don't go around wearing my Bronyness on my sleeve...literally or figuratively.  But it's only inevitable that certain things slip and people learn about that aspect of me.  So far there have been two noteworthy incidents.  The first was last year when my recurring house guest happened to notice the Fluttershy plushie in my room.  He asked if I was into MLP and I said yes.  He was like OK and that was that.  The other time was this summer when I was at Bronycon.  I heard this woman yelling "Hey, John!"  It turned out to be one of my coworkers and she brought her daughter and husband along.  I had no idea she liked MLP.  But it was cool to learn one of the people I see almost every day in RL is a fan of the show too.  We have an ongoing inside reference when we go fun fun FUN! and I don't think anybody else has picked up on it yet.  :)

I never made s secret of it, or actually ran around "Confessing" either. My mom still has the McDonald's Happymeal Rarity I gave her. She hangs on the rear view mirror of her car. My husband knows I'm a fan, He claims he isn't a brony, but he usually watches with me. (what a fibber!)  My dad? I think it's good for him that his "little girl" still watches cartoons! My brother knows I obsess over cartoons and anime. He has from time to time called me Kim Possible. LOL! He knows I'm a forever diehard fan of KP!

I'll start out with some backstory-my grandmother gets the kids meals at mcdonalds and stuff, and she gets the toys and puts them up on display on shelves and stuff. One of these, on a visit there with my father-happened to be a Rainbow Dash figurine from that mcdonalds promotion. I never owned any pony stuff and as soon as I saw it I was like... "Mine. MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE!!!!!!" while she was in the other room talking to my dad I grabbed it and stuffed it into my pocket. She didn't notice it was gone, probably still doesn't even remember ever having it lol, but then we were headed back home and I pulled it out of my pocket and started taking the y'know plastic stuff off of it, and my dad was like, "what is that?" and I was like-its a pony.Rainbow Dash she's my fav and my dad was like oh okay.

My mom found out I liked ponies because I asked her for this overpriced custom rainbow dash plushie for christmas (JUST BECAUSE I'M 20 DOESN'T MEAN I STILL CAN'T HAVE GIFTS GAHDDAMNIT) she didn't say anything about it, but well I didn't get it, I got a freaking 3ds instead.-_-

My sister I just told her and she was like oh okay, because it helps me cope with being a fucking psychopath.

My little bro is the only one that knows, we were on the topic of fandoms and I slipped up and said something, so he pressured me into saying what it was under the condition that I would kick him into next week if he said anything :squee:

Kind of wanted to tell him anyways   He approved of it saying he finds it interesting, but doesn't watch the show.

I started watch it because my best buddy was a HUGE brony, He told me out of fear.. I did bust his chops ( playfully of coarse ) but never took it far, he knew I was EXTREMELY depressed and in a bad state and he offered too show me an episode.. it was " Pinkie Pride " because Weird Al was in it and we have both been fans of his since 1989 lol. Anyways I dismissed it off at first but I found myself watching it over and over and over.. I wasn't until I tried too kill myself was when I TRUELY saw the message of the show. I pulled the knife out of my arm ( was 2 inches deep at that point ) and as I tried to stop the the bleeding lol at that point I lost a good amount of blood and I was a wee bit woozy lol It was the next day my parents found out about it. My mom seemed a little weirded out but my dad.. my dad was creeped out.. he still loves me.. but .. he has kept making jokes too see if I am gay now.. My mom says that's non-sense but my dad says " Look.. it's a show for little girls, either he is gay, asexual or .. a pedophile " .. I yelled back with tears in my eye " I'M ALIVE NOW!" .. he scoffed at me.. Things haven't changed on that end but.. My mom is going too watch an episode with me but as for my dad.. he just stays quiet about it.. silently wondering what kind of freak I am.. Oh well, they all can't understand.

Damn, just right then and there, wish I had the confidence for that. lol

Well I'm not very good at keeping secrets and I wasn't going to hide my liking of a show, though I did by accident for a while.

I just didn't say anything, but I watch a lot of anime and I've never felt the need to go and tell my family when I start fan girling.

I like my ponies like I like my anime, moe with a dashie of tsun. I mean dash.

^_^ lol

xD it just came up, I said I like it, no one cared.

you could have that sort of confidence too! you keep telling yourself that your hobbies are your own and if somepony doesn't like it they can just kiss your left flank!  :)

there are too many things to worry about in life to waste it on what people will think, even if they are family.

That is a work in progress for me, been trying to develop the "I don't care what you think" mentality, tis somewhat working :squee:

I am glad you had the honesty too talk openly about it. It took me a bit to open up, but the show helped me come too terms with myself and I never looked back.

you can do it! don't give up! :D

the show really is a lot of help for people who have problems socializing, being open about themselves, I've even heard some say it helps with depression and I'm not surprised.

if you surround yourself with positive thoughts, you will feel positive and that's what the show does! :D

My mom just walked in on me and my bro watching MLP on netflix and was like "ohhhkay." She was a little weirded out, but not really surprised. She lived though the days when we watched Pokemon, Digimon, Yu-gi-oh, Inuyasha, Naruto, Teen Titans, Sonic X, and a bunch fo other anime, so it shouldn't have come as much of a suprise to her and my dad.

I just told them... Almost everyone knows it bc if they come to my place they can see all my MLP merchandise. I don't care what they think about it tbh. It's my life, and I like it. They don't have to like it.. But I don't want them to judge me. If they will, I'll tell them to shut up :). But fortunately most people don't mind, and accept that I like it. I showed some of them even an episode, and they weren't really negative about it.. so that's cool!
