How did your family/friends find out you like MLP or how did you tell them about it?

Well, I think my sister found out first. I was downstairs watching the show with my friend (Hi NeonDinosGoMeow) when she walked down to see what we were doing. She saw what we were watching and just kind of laughed it off.

Then came my mother. Long story short, I convinced her to stop by Fred Meyer so I could check for blindbags. She found me rifling through the MLP section of the girl's toys and was just like "Whatevs."

My dad found out when my sister shouted it out when we were having a family lunch in a very crowded restaurant. Doesn't help that under my coat I was wearing my Lyra shirt.

And I use pony reaction images liberally with all of my friends, both on Facebook and texting, and they just sort of accept it about me. I think.

Truly, I just went rather............outright with it. Quite simply, there was no special way that I did it, I was just like:

"Yeah, mom, let me explain to you what a brony is."

*gives explanation*

"Yeah, I'm one, and I love being a part of the community."

She's like: "K. Glad you're a part of something cool."

^ Abridged story of my brony revelation to my mom. The end.

I tried really hard to keep it as secret as possible. After a while, though, i noticed a bunch of brony sites were getting blocked, including DA and EQD o..O

My dad came to my room one day. He thought i was going on porn sites. I explained to him the pony thing.

Surprisingly, they were totally OK with it.

Well, I just flat out told them that I like the show. My mom and grandma love the show while my dad says it's innapropriate for my age group and kind of teases me about it....

Yeah, he's still stuck in the stereotypical gunk of society however, he doesn't really say TOO much about it

(I already told him I don't really give two bits about what others say about it)

I just gave a big explanation to my mom, like I mean big, 30 minute explanation about everything about the show, the large male fanbase, why I like it. She approved of it, and later I told my dad. I didn't even need to give him a big explanation, because he pretty much immediately approved, and was quite curious about it, but in an interested way, and not a questioning way.

I was interested at why they didn't mind so much about me watching MLP, so I asked them. They said that they wanted to encourage the things that I do, as long as they're not bad, they don't want to alienate me, and the message in the show seems pretty wholesome. They also related to my sisters friend, who's mother disapproved of so many things she did, that she eventually moved away right when she turned eighteen. My parents are smart people, so it's no wonder they were understanding.

*parents walk in and see me watching MLP*

Parents: "Is that My Little Pony?"

Me: "Yup"

Parents: "You like My Little Pony?"

Me: "Yeah, it's pretty good actually."

Parents: "Oh, neat."

*parents ask the question they came in to ask and then leave*

They don't harass me about it, but what they DO do is send me MLP things like MLP stickers, shirts, cards, figures and anything else that they happen to find that is MLP and wasn't in the pink isle.

I just told them the first night I started watching it. I figured I wouldn't keep it a secret, and just tell them. They were fine with it.

My parents still don't know I even watch the show. I put too much security on my computer for them to access it. But my parents are very much stereotypes, them finding out I watch MLP would result in a living hell. Besides, I don't see the point of telling them.

But in some how they did find out, I would just give a two minute explanation and hope for the best.

I think my sister found out first. I downloaded the app on my iPad "for my sister", but she caught me playing it. And my mother founded it out because me and my sister talk about it all the time. And my dad.. I don't he knows actually.

My friends got to know it when I started to build pixel arts on my minecraft server. They didn't fully accept that. But it's much better now.

I told my parents about MLP:FiM when I was really excited about season 3 comming out, I told them about everything I like about it. I even showed a bit from the first episode to my dad. xD They were both cool with it and my mom even asked me if i wanted MLP toys. c:

My background for my online clock was RD but in like a night sky thingy, my family thought it was just some random thing, then one day my sister found the same looking RD in a pony form in a picture and thus my family hates me forever! (My sister actually calls me Rainbow Dash now, trying to be an insult but, hey, I'm now RD >.>)

I remember it like it was yesterday...

(Flashback a few months ago)

I had just finished showing them a presentation for my Honors English class on foods from the colonial era when they asked me a question that sent a shiver down my spine:

"By the way, this brony (they pronounced it "brawny") thing."

"You mean brony (correct pronunciation)."

"Yeah, are you into that?"

(After a lot of personal debating, I confidently said) "Yes, I am."

(My mom tilted her head slightly and gave me a "are you serious?" look)

(Quickly, trying to regain some apparently lost ground) "Look, it's a good show and lots of people like it."

(My dad) "This is more something you enjoy in the comfort of your own home."

(Deep down thinking) "Must...resist...urge...to slap...sense...into...parents"

I then showed them an "epic trailer" for the show on YouTube. They described the show as "'Lord of the Rings' for kids".

Basically, it couldn't have gone worse. These days I've kept quiet about being a brony because they just aren't worth it. In truth, I don't respect or like them as much as I used to...

Just sitting there with my parents one Sunday, while channel surfing. Only to stop in an episode of My Little Pony, they inquired and than I answered truthfully. They honestly don't care what I do as long as it's not anything that they consider strange, (not a lot of things).

I didn't really keep it a secret ... I think I started watching it though when I was off at college. I guess they "found out" when I wanted to go to walmart with them to buy the mane 6 pony brushables. My mom was just like " you want to spend 30$ on them?" and I was like " yup I do " and she was "okay". Later on my dad asked why I liked the show and I told him about how awesome it was. They've both heard 1 or 2 songs from the show. I also think I showed them the clip of "haha the fun has been doubled! " At the moment they've been hearing a lot about pony merchandise from me since I've been trying to play catch up with pony merchandise since I was in Japan for 11 months ,during like season 2 and stuff. I was rather bummed I didn't have enough space to bring my ponies with me to Japan. And now I"m collecting older ponies and blind bags. Although I'm kind of at a standstill with the blind bags because I'm waiting for the stores around me to move past the crystal ponies... Lol I get all excited and yell " Ponies!" when it comes to like get packages in the mail or going to a store to get some merchandise. One time the fun WAS doubled because I got Ponies and Pocky! Yeah lol I'm big into animals and anime and cute things so I doubt it surprised them. XD I guess they forgot that ( I think it was them) got me a Skyskimmer back when I was younger)

During a family car trip to the US, I bought a set of pony figurines at Toys R' Us, alongside a Gears of War figure, ironically.

When I got back to the car and started opening up the ponies, my brothers got all quiet and confused. "Wait... did you like, get those for free?" one said.

"...No, I bought .em."

If things had been quiet before, it was incomparable to the kind of silence that followed after saying that. But I managed to get out a brief explanation about the show and what made it good, and I think they understood a little better. After all, my liking of cartoons intended for entirely younger age groups was hardly a new thing (see: ninja turtles) - so that made the initial shock a little easier to manage.

Since then, I've bought pony toys, posters, clothing, DVDs - it's a pretty standard interest of mine now. Occasionally my friends and family bring it up inquisitively, but at this point it's nothing new. Yesterday my Dad was mentioning how he totally gets my fascination with the show, given the charm and character designs. I did however, cringe a little when he referred to it as my "pony fetish." Jeez, thanks Dad :\

Still, I was never like, OH GOD, NO ONE MUST KNOW ABOUT PONIES. Nah. In fact, if anything, I've openly embraced my love for it. That's just always how I've been about stuff I like, I guess.

Like this:

'Hey, I'm going to try watching that 'My Little Pony' show thing.  Don't bother me.'

An hour or so later.

'That.  Is like.  The best thing I have ever watched.  It's not even...its not even stupid.'

My step mom teased me a bit, but she has a few first gen ponies tattooed on her thigh so she couldn't say much. My dad was impartial because his wife was tattooed. Ha. Although, neither of them realize how much I like it.

My mom saw my iPod and PC both have Derpy Hooves backgrounds and themes and asked me why I had ponies on them so I told her, she thought it was a bit weird but she accepts it, albeit with the occasional teasing. Actually only within the last few months since she found out have I been comfortable being open with it.

I came back from hot topic at the mall. I bought a brony shirt and a rainbow dash vinyl doll. They caught me with the bag and they check my pony merch out and they awkwardly stared at me for a while. I t wasn't good because now they're making fun of me for it
