Recording Software Recommendations?

Hey.  As some of you know from reading some of my other posts, I am a gamer and want to be on youtube.  I wanted to know if anyone else on the forums might be joining me.  Or if there's anypony who would cheer me on and help me out.

 

I also have a favor to ask.  The recorder I use right now is bunk.  Does anypony know a good game play recorder for Linux (that's not Demo Recorder).  I you could help me out, that would be great.

Oi, you've reminded me of the Let's Play my friend and I had planned that completely fell through...

 

But I digress. This site was created by a member of the Forums for brony gamers to congregate, make clans, discuss gaming, etc. It's still fairly small, but he has done next to no advertising. You might be able to find a pal there. Also, if you want to spread the word of that site, the owner would be much appreciative.

I do a Minecraft LP and use HyperCam 2. It's free as of a couple of months ago, and is pretty reliable on Windows 8.

I'm only a Xbox gamer and I tend to stick to single player experiences. Mainly because I have no one to play against and can't stand the white noise of hate and nonsense that comes on Xbox live.

Well I only play games on my ps3 for the most part but I do have some recording equipment. I haven't really got much recorded though since I lost a lot motivation once classes started back up. I might try to get back into recording some matches again soon though. I mostly just record matches from Persona 4 Arena and Blazblue that I play.

I'd play for a channel... I'm quite experienced with the Souls games and if you're ok with it I'd like to try recording it... not sure if it works on linux, but DXtory is really great for PC

Well I'm a gamer myself, I actually use to do some gameplay videos and the such and I used fraps to record everything, however without pirating its gonna run you like 30ish bucks for it, and I don't know if it runs on linux or not, but its pretty good quality if you invest in it.

 

Don't exspect instant fame though, especially if your not doing something groundbreakingly amazing and different. Theres alot of people on youtube afterall.

 

Good luck though, the most important part is the fun, so if you don't enjoy it theres no sense in doing it, just keep that in mind.

You could use glc, I have a friend that messes with that now and then when he isn't playing on Windows. I've only ever used fraps but it doesn't run on linux from what I'm aware.

I mainly do Black Ops 2 videos right now so i wouldn't really be interested in collaborating (i am collaborating with several people for an epic black ops sniper clan montage) but i do wish you the best of luck and i'll check out your videos if you give us a link to your YouTube channel.

If you want an audience of 8 year old's, proceed with this.

If not, proceed with God Of War and Darksiders 2, i recommend Bayonetta if you like games of that style.

Also, use Fraps for recording and Sony Vegas 8 or 10 for editing.

I would record for my ps3, if I had any useful hardware from a capture card to a quality computer . 

I play persona 4 arena, black ops 2 (trolling, but I can hold my own), and naruto ultimate ninja storm 2

I want to wish you luck, would recommend playing games off the beaten path. I don't mean that it's a bad thing to play Ao Oni, Happy Wheels, or Slender.  For instance I record videos of Amnesia, Silent Hill, and now Dead Space 3, but I also do videos for Scratches, Cryostasis, and later down the road Clive Barker's Jehico.  As for recording software, if you can run it on Linux I second FRAPS it may use up quite a bit of harddrive space but I is worth it for the video and audio quality.  I would also get an external microphone nothing fancy, hell I use USB Mic from some Konami karaoke game, also get a pop filter it does wonders.

As far as recording software goes, I would recommend FRAPS.  Moderately priced, and gives you the quality of footage you need reliably.  It's also rather simple to use, displaying large numbers in the selected corner of the screen that indicate your frames-per-second.  When idle, they are yellow, to indicate that you are recording footage currently, they turn red.  FRAPS can also obviously be used to capture footage other than games.  There is some customization of hot-keys to your liking. 

 

I use it to record game footage in 1080p, and never settle for any less quality than that.  Full-screen goodness.

Games? Amnesia is far too mainstream... if you want horror try either Metro 2033 (kinda obscure, a lot of fun, kinda scary) or STALKER Call Of Pripyat (More obscure, ridiculously fun, and bloody terrifying with the Misery mod), the key is to find games that you find fun and want to share with others... and never (and I mean NEVER) record Minecraft, Happy Wheels, Lol/HoN, etc... you will only get people that subscribe for the fan dumb and will ONLY ask for more of that.
