Am I the only one who likes Cadance and Shining Armor?

I certainly like both Cadance and Shining Armor. For characters who could have easily been made milquetoast stock personalities, no more than necessary stand-ins to facilitate the events of "A Canterlot Wedding", the writers have provided both of them with unique traits which are consistent with the rest of the cast. In other words, Cadance and Shining are relatable as people, even if they occupy prestigious positions in society. The two of them take most everything in stride with a pinch of good humor.

 

Cadance possesses an air of refinement without being a pompous Mary Sue who chews up the scenery and minimizes the importance of other characters. It's clear that she knows she is a princess, but she doesn't let her status contort her personality. I wish I could put my finger on it, but there is something about Cadance that leads me to believe she is not perfect---even if she has committed no major blunders thus far in the series. I could easily envision her being very honest about her mistakes and shortcomings.

 

Shining Armor has a touch of the adorkable hero who is equally capable of leading a squad into battle to defend Equestria and being humorously embarrassed by his little sister. He's really the Captain America/Steve Rogers of MLP. I also think the surfer accent makes him a bit quirky.

 

I guess people could dislike both of them for being too perfect a couple. I honestly don't get that vibe from them, though.

Good eye; I too have experienced that. Though, I do try to give the writers the benefit of the doubt when creating characters (and promptly displaying them) considering they've given each and every one of them in-depth traits. Maybe it's just that?

I feel like Cadance and Shining Armor don't get any love from people. I've heard that people don't like them because they are "pointless" characters with no personalities.

 

I absolutely loved the season 2 finale of FIM, and I really liked both Cadance and Shining Armor. I think that if their characters were to become more developed, they would be two of my favorite characters (besides Rainbow Dash of course). I would love to see more appearances by both of them in the future in season 4.  

 

But anyway, does anyone else besides me like Princess Cadance and Shining Armor, and want to see more of them in the future? 

Don't worry, you're not alone! I, too like Shining Armor because of his cool appearance, and I like the fact that he is the Captain of the Royal Guard (My sig has a pic of him). As for Princess Cadence? I like her but I can't find a legitimate reason for that.

Armor gets plenty of love, from what I've seen. Cadence is the one who has some considerable amounts of dislike in contrast to her fans, though. I'm a fan of Armor, and fine with Cadence, personally.

Alrighty, all done with my ukulele plan It was actually rather tricky since from what I can tell of the silhouettes in the show, they're actually facing entirely toward eachother rather than twisted around like this... but it looks kind of goofy in full detail, so I went with more the impression I got, rather than a literal interpretation.

And here's that cool wood set for the back and sides... I think I'll flip the back upside down so the big point is on top, but doesn't that looks an awful lot like the crystal heart in its place under the castle?

You know... I think I'll do a full build documentation thread when I get this underway. It'll be a secondary project to my main one at the moment, so things will be a bit slow moving, but it might be fun for some people to see how these things are made

There are a lot of people that have said that Shining Armor is best stallion I personally think Big Macintosh is best stallion which makes sense because his sister is best pony but Shining Armor is pretty cool too. At first I was like "where the frag did they come from?" Because Twilight Sparkle was supposed to be this loner but then I remember that you can still be kind of a loner and have just a couple of people close to you. And I like Cadence for some of the same reasons why I like Luna because though she in a princess she didn't let it get to her head and turn her into self entitled snob.

I love Cadance and Shining Armor! I think they are adorable and certainly not pointless. Boo on those people who think so.

 

Also, Shining Armor is my favorite stallion in the show. In the recent episode, "Games Ponies Play" when that pony the mane six thought was the Games Inspector met Shining Armor, that scene made me laugh. I really would like to see more episodes with him in it. x3

I don't dislike them, but I do find them a bit bland, undeveloped and well...too perfect / without flaws. They're not bad as minor characters though.

Well I think they are an adorable couple!

Although they are almost 'too perfect together to be true', it's still cute.

I really hope the script writers give them foals sometime in the future! Maybe not an Alicorn though. There are too many Alicorns and what not with Twilight's 'transformation' and all.

I think they're fantastic designwise Shining Armour's colours are a total Vinyl Scratch ripoff and they're among my favourites. If people say they're not very developed, it's simply because they haven't had a heckuva lot of screen time. I'd imagine they would be my de jure favourites (Behind Tavi, Lyra and Rar, de facto, of course) if they had more time on screen to develop.

I like Cadance and Shining Armor, though they are underdeveloped and somewhat two dimensional, but then they havn't had very much screen time. Still, even if they did get more screen time I worry that they might be stuck as two dimensional characters, what character flaws could they possibly have that would seem to fit them? About the only thing we have to be curious about is how Cadance is a princess and how is it that she is the defacto ruler of the Crystal Empire. My guess is that she is the last living blood heir descendent of the original king and queen of the Empire before Sombra took over.

I also hate the fact that they were more focused on in CK more than Sombra. I mean Sombra get hate because of his Lack of screentime and its kind of there fault.

Once thing I don't like about Cadence is Hasbro's inconsistent spelling of her name... on the MLP Wiki it is suggested that they switched to "Cadance" because it would be easier to copyright a non-existant spelling variation.

I like them enough, and I really like their designs, I just wish the show did more with them.

Their two-parter was one of my favorite parts of the series, and I like them together, but seperately they need to build up.

 

Glimmer Shield is the genderbent version of Shining Armor, so I suppose anyone who catches onto that would catch me in a lie if I said I didn't like the character. xD;

Hmmmm, the only thing I really don't like about cadence and shining armour would have to be their toys.

 

 

Utterly no idea why the shining armour toy is losing more hair than me..............one second, I need to cry,   OK now that that's over,   yeh,  just don't...get that toy.  

 

 

 

I guess in the show he does have a short mane, but it's really messy and just keeps teasing out....

 

 

As for the show....for being brought in so late, they sure do fit.

Cadence i find hard to like ever since her debut episode: royal canterlot wedding. **SPOILERS** i know that Queen Chrysalis just shape shifted to her form to get to Shining Armor but i still think the two are the same. She is adorable in fan arts and such but ever since i saw her acting like a total b word in the wedding episodes i cant seem to like her as much as i should. Even though i know it wasnt really her.
   Shining Armor i like. He is military, being in the royal guards and what not, which automatically makes him likeable to me. Secondly He is the first Stallion on the show that has an important job and considered a strong magic user. Plus his voice reminds me of a surfer friend i have from Hawaii.

I really like Cadence shes my 3rd favorite alicorn. I especially like The song she sings in the Season two finale. Shining amour I "like" only because the voice actor is the voice to Jaller from the movie Bionicle: The mask of light. The simmilarites between the two are very Interesting.

I've actually been mulling over how Shining Armor and Cadence might add some depth to their characters... because for some reason I do like them, and I do want to see them transcend their current 2 dimensional profiles. I think the best way to do that is actually to concentrate on their marriage and the inevitable difficulties that that entails. I think the reason why I like Shining Armor is because I was kind of fascinated when he got uppidy with fake Cadence/Crysalis when she didn't want him to wear his uncles uniform. It was the first time we saw Shining Armor being a person and not a poster child.

 

Granted that was fake Cadence/Crysalis and not the real Cadence, but thats not to say that Shining Armor and real Cadence can't or shouldn't have similar moments. They SHOULD disagree with eachother and get under eachother's mane... they should... they should have a fight!!! Because thats what real couples do!

 

Now I know Cadence has this gift of making couples make up with eachother, but what if she refused to use it for her own relationship? Or maybe she can't use it for herself? Now Cadence and Shining Armor are getting interesting...

 

Of course true love does prevail in the end. But true love isn't a fairy tale... its earned... its not easy to aqquire. It takes effort. Thats a good lesson to be teaching your demographic.

Long version: Not very long, but although they are pretty basic and boring characters, normally they're executed well and pretty likable. Not as awesome as Chrysalis (They were kind of overshadowed by her in the season finale), but overall fine characters. Nothing to complain about other than they don't have too much character development and they kinda came from nowhere.
