Remember when the entire point of the show was that girls were complex human beings who deserved more than just pretty princess tea party crap?

Seriously, wtf??? This show is supposed to be empowering to girls, not advocate that sexist pageant bullshit. This pissed me off way more than Twilicorn ever could.

Faust is rolling in her grave. yes i know she's still alive derp

It would been funny if Twilight replied back saying "Thank you Miss America, even though you didn't make magic, grew wings, or become a ruler over your nation's government." I don't know why I thought that up.

Agreed. Agreed completely. I will never understand what Hasbro thinks. Seriously. Why? I mean, that's possibly the worst choice ever, as you stated.

Hasbro does a good job at generating a lot of interest in something them letting you down because ur expectations are not even close to what happened. I got so upset when i saw miss america with the ponies. I said WHY ARE PONIES PLAYING WITH A HUMAN. I proceeded to load my nerf gun and shoot my TV. Cant believe I stayed up late for this.

This has never been more relevant to anything on the show ever. The implications of the Miss America segment are so counter-intuitive to what FiM is supposed to represent... ugh.

Why Hasbro/The Hub/Studio B/DHX Media believes we need to have some mildly semi-famous person hosting these finales is beyond me. Little girls probably don't even know who Miss America is, WHY IS SHE IN OUR PONIES!?

Yeah, it made me cringe, too. I was watching on BronyState and I just muted it whenever she was talking. I just couldn't stomach it...blegh.

Part of what made FiM so awesome was that it was supposed to be show little girls that they could buck stereotypes and be strong and independent. Now the stereotypes are leaking (or flooding) back, and it's more than a little disheartening.

I know Hasbro's marketing team is just trying to give little girls what they want, but our world needs to give them what they NEED. And they don't need these old stereotypes, they need the opposite.

lol she's not even that attractive, let alone be a good actor. I'm still waiting on the day they get Betty White to do these special celebrity things for these events

Use some mildly famous person to peak the target demographic's interest and watch ratings escalate. Not an uncommon scheme in children's television. The Hub could have grabbed any random face to host the premier, it's only a matter of convincing kids that the person is significant that's important

"Well," said Pooh, "what I like best—" and then he had to stop and think. Because although Eating Honey was a very good thing to do, there was a moment just before you began to eat it which was better than when you were, but he didn't know what it was called.

Understood, it's just that the guest they chose was in really poor taste considering what the show is supposed to represent. They could have easily just gotten someone like Tara Strong or even John De Lancie . Either of those would have been fantastic and the kids would recognize their voices.

Not cool Hasbro, not cool.

There's a reason why I don't watch the Hub, and instead watch ponies entirely through YouTube and download the episodes.

It was just the Hub doing something silly again. While I love MLP:FiM, I can't stand watching the commercials and such of the channel it is on.

Hey you guys pageant queens... er hem I mean princesses make excellent role models to girls! They should scrap the entire VA cast and have pageant beauties voice the ponies now.

End of trolling :D

But seriously don't overreact over that. :/

...Well thank god I didn't see it on TV then! Was she really that bad? I mean, the idea of having her there is stupid, but how bad could've she been?

I don't know why I'm freaking out about this so much. I mean, MLP:FiM was created to sell toys in the first place. I suppose we should take what we can get.

So far there has only been the occasional lapse in judgement, and as long as we vocalize our concerns when it happens things should work out just fine.

When I first saw that I was just...wow. It was completely nonsensical, and she was so awkward it was unbelievable.

Also, how does Rarity know what America is?

Y'know, I've been on this site for almost ten years and I've never had a proper signature. Ain't that something?

I am so glad I am not only one who feels this way, seriously what is great about this show is that it shatters these kind of stereotypes by making a show which at first glance seems like this same kind of "girly" stuff but is actually a compelling show with a solid story back by strong relatable characters. The whole Miss America thing while it didn't in and of itself ruin the episode for me as the episode itself needed no help doing that it was still cringe worthy nonetheless

Unlike the alicorn complaining, which the majority of is overly dramatic and rather repetitive, I completely agree with this. There's not much else to say because the OP worded it perfectly. The only reason they're doing shit like this is to try and grab attention easier with their commercials. Unfortunately, I think MLP is subject to this more because of what the HUB is deciding to do, than anything. MLP:FiM may be against the girly pageant stuff, promoting the gender-neutral thing, but the HUB, overall, isn't. Their audience is young kids, and sadly, society as a whole is still all on board the stereotype train in the 'boys like A and girls like B' thing.

Our show has challenged these boundaries, but they're still everywhere, including the channel the show airs on. That's the bottom line.

Eh... it was only a brief advertising stunt. It's hardly canon that Miss America chatted with and hugged the ponies outside of the actual episode. I wouldn't take it too seriously; while I get that it goes against the "all girls like poofy frou-frou princess stuff!" belief that much of FiM has been designed to dispel, the fact remains that many girls in MLP's target audience do, in fact, like that.

Bringing in a guest like Miss America helps publicize the show precisely to its target audience, which isn't a bad thing. Yeah, it means more money for Hasbro and The Hub - but there's nothing inherently evil in that. The people behind MLP all have to put food on the table, too, y'know.

Be pleased that Miss America wasn't inserted into the canonical Equestria, and realize that the advertising stunt wasn't meant for you. :)
