The Elements Need To Be Shown?

I'd like to discuss about the show and the "Elements of Harmony".

 

I'm one to love the first two episodes of every season (pilot episodes), and I think that the show could have more scenes that show's each of the Mane 6 ponies' elements.

 

For example, Rainbow Dash isn't showing much loyalty in the recent episodes. I don't like pointing out the flaws of this show, but it's a discussion that needs.. well.. DISCUSSION... SO DO THAT:

Dashie needs a better element in my opinion, doesn't seem like the loyal type. A loyal friend would go back to help their other friends, and she just deserted Pinkie and Rarity in the desert, some loyalty huh?

For instance, in May The Best Pet Win, Rainbow learns that loyalty is more important than physical attributes.

In Applebuck Season and The Last Roundup, Applejack learns to be open and honest about her problems.

In Baby Cakes, Pinkie learns that responsibility is much more than just making people laugh.

In Feeling Pinkie Keen, Twilight learns to not let beliefs stand in the way of friendship.

 

Etc. The elements are less of attributes that each pony has in excess, but ones that each counts on as a way to strengthen their friendship.

Thing is though, loyalty can also consist of having faith in your friends. She believes they are strong enough handle themselves and make it back to Ponyville in one piece. I'm with Dashie on this one, I like to see any monster stupid enough to deal with a Rarity and Pinkie Pie tag team.

I started to notice the lack of elements in characterization during the last few episodes as well, but have to agree with Joe. Seems as though the lessons help the mane six build on their elements to become better friends.

Precisely! Even though the Mane 6 do represent the Elements of Harmony, they are still constantly learning and growing from their experiences. Every problem or dilema that they face only strengthens them more once they overcome it.

 

If you think about it, it may not be the Elements of Harmony that powers the Mane 6. The necklaces and the crown may only be mediums, they only channel the power. The REAL power may actually comes from within their hearts and souls, activating the necklaces/crowns and releasing the full power of Harmony, tranquillity, and friendship.

Anyways, The characters do seems to lack their elements... some of them. I mean, how many times does Applejack lie?

But also, I feel as though the Elements are more of an equalizer(something used to balance harmony and disharmony) rather than an actual embodiment of pure loyalty or honesty, etc. The Elements probably goes to the one in the group that has that characteristic the most, rather than a lot. After all, Applejack lies...especially in the Pinkie Pie Insanity episode.

That's probably the pattern that's going on. It does make sense.

 

Applejack lying? Off the top of my mind, I can remember the time where she lied to Pinkie Pie about the suprise birthday party, and The Last Roundup, even though it's not as much lying as avoiding the truth.

 

But, to be honest, Applejack is a terrible liar. It's possible that since she is the honest one, she is the worst at deception.

Forgetfulness is not the same as disloyalty. Besides, this was added as a comic element.

From what I get Rarity generosity pop's up at time of stake like in the first episode that she gave her tail tp the sea serpant even though she values her appearance a lot or at the dress episode that pushed herself to make the dresses even though she found them horrible let alone letting them show up with them knowing that they were horrible and put her fame in stake(which means a lot to her for them). She is just generous in her own way

Rarity is generous? Do you even remember that in the maze Rarity was made greedy by discord? She made a bunch of dresses for her friends, twice.

 

Although I support this idea of the elements not being the thing in wich everypony is perfect at. I tend to think that Applejack is the most likely to lie, Rainbow is the most likely to be unloyal, Rarity is the most likely to be greedy and so on, as they sometimes fail at their elements

I feel that they show Pinkie Pie's element on nearly every episode so they nailed that one.

Fluttershy's they also got spot on. But the rest I don't really see an awful lot.

Sorta disappointing but I suppose in nearly every episode one of them learns how to be better at their element.

People give Rarity a lot of flack for having the element of generosity but supposedly not being generous.
