Scar turned around and looked at Gladius for a moment. "Don't get cocky Gladius...that's my job." He said, running at Gladius for a second time, much faster this time. Holding out a claw he dived at Gladius...well, he aimed for the spot next to Gladius attempting to scratch up the pony's side.

Ooc: Jolteon and I were tired of waiting for ARegularpony to post so we decided to hurry this along a bit for the sake of the plot.

 

Glory was very troubled. Not so much by the fact that the evil spirit had somehow managed to breach the protection spell without being detected, but more so by the note that she had left, sitting on the floor by the alter. Glory picked up the note with her horn magic and read it over again.

 

"Dear Priestess.
Yes, its me, the one you met the other day. I just feel like we should maybe have a friendly chat. Meet me by the lake at sundown tonight. If you bring guards, I will kill two ponies once a day until I get what I want. Come alone.

Thing...or as you may know me, Zeanex"

 

Zeanex... that was a name that seemed familar in some ways, but Glory could not place it. In any case, she knew that she would have to go to the meeting as she could not stand to have innocent lives on her conscious. The Oracle knew that her own magic was sufficient; if it came down to it, she could certainly defend herself long enough to pull out her trump card, the summoning of the goddess. After that, who knew what would happen?

Gladius tried to step out of the way of Scar's claw, but wasn't fast enough and ended up with a scratch across his side. It wasn't deep, mostly superficial in fact, but it still meant that he had gotten hit.

Scar laughed. "I'm not done." He said, spreading his wings. With a big flap he was above Gladius and was about to grab his throat from behind.

Thing happily waited by the lake. She knew that Glory would come, there was no way she would risk the lives of the town's folk...of course Thing planned on killing them anyway until she got what she wanted...it was all working out so nicely.

As Scar was about to strike down at him, Gladius kicked up at the griffon's face and quickly rolled out of the way. "Alright. I think it's my turn to get a few shots in." He readied his blunted training sword and leapt toward his opponent with an overhead slash.

Glory wrote a note for Vinyl and also for her apprentice before renewing the protection spell one last time before she left. She began to walk towards the meeting place with quick, nervous steps as she went over various spells including the summoning spell in her mind. Glory could have gotten there quicker if she'd flown, but she needed the time to prepare herself for the confrontation.

Scar threw up a talon to block the attack. He winced slightly as the blow spread through his claw and down his arm. He used his other talon and threw a punch at Gladius's stomach...of course if this was a real battle he would extend his talons to gut whoever it was...but this was practice.

Thing's ears perked up as she heard somepony coming. She grinned down at the water before standing up and turning around to see Glory heading in her direction. "Hello Glory. I'm so glad you could make it." She said, smiling. This was working out so perfectly.

Glory stared steadily back at Thing, making a good effort to keep her voice steady. "I had no choice, as you well know," she said. "I could not stand back and watch while you did your best to destroy innocent lives for no good reason. All I could do is my best to stop you, whatever it takes."

Thing laughed. "You think you can stop me sweetheart ? Well you have another thing coming." She said, in a deadly sweet voice. "I invited you here for a little chat. Please, come sit." She said, her eyes flashing red and a table appearing out of mid air. On the table were all kinds of cookies and pastries, also two cups of tea. "So have you figured out who I am yet ?" She asked, sitting down at the table and pouring herself a cup of tea.

They continued to exchange blows for what seemed like an eternity before Gladius eventually sheathed his sword. "I think that's about enough for tonight. Who's going to be on offense?"

Glory chose a place and sat down. "At first," she began, "I assumed that you were an evil spirit, released from a holding place somewhere. This does happen, or so I've been told. However, when you told me your real name at the end of the note, that name rang a bell. At first, I could not place it, but during the walk here, I realised. You are an old enemy of the deities, and you targeted the temple and I cuz of Vesta. Am I right?"

Thing clapped her hooves together. "That is correct...but rather than saying "Old Enemy" you can just say God of Evil, god of corruption, God of death, god of chaos...any of those will do. Now. Here is what I want. I want you to summon Vesta." She said, sipping her tea and smiling.

Scar nodded. "Well...I don't care. I feel like maybe I would be better at distracting him...I know how to keep myself safe but also piss the hell off my enemy."

Gladius shrugged. "Well, if that's the way you want it then I won't argue. Just make sure to be careful. I don't want to see anything happen to you. Anyway, is there anything else you wanted to discuss before we part ways for the night? We need to make sure we're ready."

Glory was surprised. "Why would you want to see Vesta?" she asked. "Why come to my temple, and not the temple of Jupiter?" Glory knew of it; the unicorn stallion there could summon Jupiter as easily as she could summon Vesta, since he was the high priest of the king god. She couldn't think of a single reason why a chaos god would want Vesta, unless it was cuz he underestimated the goddess and believed her to be kindly and gentle. Which she was, but when Rome was threatened, she could be just like any tigress defending her cubs when she believed that the city that she was the protector of was at risk.

"Because Vesta is the one who defeated me. We used to be good friends, but then I learnt that I could have so much more power than I already do...so I took advantage of it. Vesta got angry we got into a fight, and she only managed to defeat me using the help of other gods. I was cursed and sent to earth where I was trapped in that bloody tunnel because some stupid magical lock." She said, sipping her tea and looking out at the lake. "I want you to summon Vesta so I can kill her and show her that I mean business. But not now. I will show you when the time is right, you will know. If you did summon her now, the whole city of Rome can be destroyed quite easily you know...very...easily."

Glory gasped. She was horrified at what this creature was suggesting, not just killing Vesta, but also the destruction of Rome. However, she knew that Vesta wouldn't die so easily, and that Thing wasn't about to have everything her own way. Glory would go along with what she said, at least for the moment.

 

"If I agree to what you say," she said, choosing her words carefully, "Will you promise to leave the temple alone?"

"I will not touch the temple." She said, crossing a hoof over her heart...well, where it would be if she had one. "Do we have a deal ?" She asked, holding out a hoof as a big happy grin spread across her face. "There is one thing I need in the temple...and like before. If you don't let me in for one small thing, I will kill all the ponies in Rome. Its just a simple book."

Glory sighed. "It depends what the book is," she replied. "Some of the books can't leave the temple. If I can't take the book out of the temple, then I can't give you the book. Then it wouldn't be fair for you to kill everypony in Rome, cuz it wouldn't be my fault that I wouldn't be able to keep my side of the bargain. But if it's possible, I will."

Thing smiled and picked up a muffin. "You don't know its there Glory. You have never seen it before because I have hidden it. I am going to be getting in either way you know. That barrier will break eventually." She said, biting into the muffin and smiling.

Glory looked even more defeated. She just didn't know what to do, and had nopony to turn to for help. All she could do was nod an agreement, and trust in the goddess to somehow set things right. Glory didn't have it in her power to do anything else at this moment.

Thing smiled happily as Glory nodded. "Perfect. I will be at the temple to pick up my book in a few hours...until then." Her eyes flashed and everything sitting on the table became rotten, flies were everywhere and most of the food was covered in maggots. Thing Laughed then turned into a puff of black smoke and disappeared with the wind, reappearing in the forest. *Always gotta make a good exit.* She thought.

Glory got up from her seat and spread her wings, flying into the sky. She felt that she needed the rush of fresh air about her, to try and blast away what she had gone thru. Glory felt that all she could do right now would be to go back to the temple and make an offering to Vesta in order to ask her advice.

Scar shook his head. "Nothing that I can think of." He said, walking out of the center ring and taking off his metal talons. He placed them on the bench and sat down. "Can you think of anything I need to know before tomorrow ?" He asked.


Thing turned into a puff of black smoke for the second time and started flying even farther away from Rome...in the direction of what seemed to be the changeling hives.

Gladius shook his head. "No, nothing really. Except... After the fight tomorrow, just... don't expect me to be around too long to celebrate. I have to, um, take care of some things and I'll be out of town for a while."

Scar smiled. He knew exactly what Gladius was thinking...well...kinda. He knew it had something to do With senator Diamond but he didn't say anything about that. "That's fine. I'll just have to drink twice as much after we win." He said, grinning.
