~Scootaloo 440 March 12, 2013 Share March 12, 2013 HOLY CRAP!!! i just noticed something! warning, wild speculation!!! take a close look at Sunset Shimmer's cutie mark.... now take a look at twilight's. what do they both have in common? sunset's cutie mark is a sun. twilight's is a star. both are six-pointed. sunset's cutie mark has a yin-yang type pattern in the center. now think of luna and celestia's origin story, the balance between night and day. foreshadowing? add in everything else we've noticed. sunset shimmers name is synonymous to twilight's. there's a new star. the balance between the races needs another unicorn. mother of god. we may be on to something here. my theory? sunset shimmer isn't replacing twilight, but twilight sparkle and sunset shimmer will be counterparts, similar to how celestia and luna are counterpart/opposites. am i out of my mind and over-analyzing the crap out of a kid's show? maybe, but then again its just crazy enough to work. as for a new character? i love the idea. i don't like it when the writers change existing characters (twilicorn), but i'm always open to new characters being introduced. i happen to really love sunset shimmer's design and i excited to hopefully to see her in a future episode. Wingnut 7,000 March 14, 2013 Share March 14, 2013 First, the obligatory observation that Harmony is an abstract concept. It doesn't have a set number. You can conceivably have any number of Element of Harmony ponies ranging from 1 to infinite. Remember Luna and Celestia held their power together. Even though they are alicorns, they're just two ponies. As far as Sunset Shimmer goes, I'm all for bringing in a new supporting character. A unicorn well-trained in magic that could be Twilight's understudy, perhaps. But it would be a mistake to give Sunset equal billing with the Mane 6 from the get go. If that were to happen, I would blame Hasbro. I doubt they are going to get rid of her from the mane six. The show wouldn't be the same without her - who would even replace her? I have a hard time believing that they are going to kick Twilight and bring some other random pony in to replace her. I don't see anyone on the show that could go in place. She looks too much like a recolor of Rarity to me (which in itself I don't have much of a problem with in all seriousness ). Harmony in this context means a peaceful, complimentary, and mutually uplifting relationship among any number of folks, but it takes a minimum of two. Remember how we were told that Celestia used the Elements to banish Nightmare Moon from the planet? She didn’t do it alone. No single pony, no matter how powerful, can employ the Elements by herself because there is no such thing as solitary harmony. Somewhere deep inside NMM’s twisted psyche, Luna was still loyal to her sister. She was so loyal that she helped Celestia use the Elements against herself to save her sister and Equestria. Being forced to fight her own sister to defend her kingdom was difficult enough. But knowing about Luna’s willingness to sacrifice herself made this victory absolutely gut wrenching for Celestia. I mean, she's already a magical wizard, could probably learn something from Twilight, has already befriended the mane 6 (granted it did take awhile), and most importantly, she's already insanely popular and already on the show (so no need for having to find someone else to pay precious money to). If it was a true change another way of looking at it is that Twilight is both the element of magic and also represents all the total Harmony too. Princess Celestia said Twilight showed all the elements, but notice she didn't mention magic but instead said Leadership. I think the six stars are still the normal Elements including Magic but the large star now stands for Twilight's new role as a leader. Now it is possible a new pony will take over the magic role, but could also mean Twilight would have two roles. I am hoping that she does appear in the show as a somewhat jealous rival for Twi but nowhere near Trixie levels. In otherwords, they'll be friends from the start and just have a few bumps to work out. (Much like Rainbow Dash and Lightning Dust in that regard). I do have a theory that Celestia has been trying to find a pony with magical abilities as strong as Twilight for some time, and it would make sense that Sunset would have been her earlier student. Either due to Twilight entering the school, or for other reasons, Sunset doesn't prove to be the one Celestia was looking for, and though she's taught well, she ends up going on a separate path, and now has come back to see Twilight.
