No, I haven't. I live in Illinois, and I haven't had a chance to go over to California yet. I'd imagine L.A. being somewhat like Chicago's transport system.

If you can visualise a parking lot filled with cars, multiply it by a thousand. With that in mind, visualise an eight lane freeway (4 lanes per direction of travel). Put about 900 of those parking lots on one side of that freeway, and then scatter the remaining 100 on the other side. That's a good visual indicator of your average LA traffic.

 

Visualise then that there are many old and aging apartment complexes and houses surrounding the parking lot freeway, in addition to several new complexes that aren't necessarily apartment complexes but are just civic structures and mass transit. Imagine that the area is also very hilly, so that you can see apartments above and below you. Visualise, if you can, racial mixing in the form of Chinatown and Little Armenia. Also, visualise the freeway as being cracked and dingy, and then visualise the land right to the sides of the freeway as being dingy as well. That's Los Angeles.

 

Squeeze in two more lanes onto the side of the freeway that has the thousand parking lots. Also, take out all of the dinginess and filth. This is right outside of LA, around the suburban areas, and that's a good visual indicator of the express lanes to the east of LA.

 

Imagine yourself having to go to the bathroom whilst being in the middle of those 900 parking lots. That's probably one of the worst things to happen to you, short of having your car break down. I just threw that statement in or fun.

Trust me, it is. History sidenote: LA used to have a cable car system, like San Francisco did, but then it all got torn apart to welcome in the freeway system and so that vendors can sell car parts and tires. You can tell how well that went.

Yikes… Well, I've never had to deal with that problem. I'm in a section of Illinois where very few live. We never have those problems here. 

 

Well, and we don't have a lot of jobs, stores, or funds from the state itself. The only thing we have is corn, and lots of it.  -_-
