Thomas Jefferson stated in the Declaration of Independence, that we have the right to pursue happiness, but there is no guarantee that we could actually obtain and keep happiness.  I hate to disagree with you, but that's not entirely correct. Happiness is a choice, you can choose to be happy, or you can choose to be sad. Our goal is to make choosing happiness easier, and choosing sadness harder.
