music What kind of dubstep do you like? (+ classical music recommendations from me!)

I personally like the real grindy hardcore stuff like Excision and Datsik.  Even so, I'm still kinda just getting into the genre.  I find it strange that it's so popular now!  I remember when it was completely ignored.

I also LOVE Glitch and Glitch Hop.  And 8-bit hacker music.

And I really like a lot of electronic music in general.  I also like Cryptex. A lot. (Cryptex is more glitch than dub though)

^ Excision & Skism

Honestly I'm just a huge fan of music in general - I like almost all kinds of music, though of course I have my favorites in each genre img-1408849-1-smile.png

I'm more into Orchestra to be honest....I love the chilling feeling of both Dubstep and Orchestra but theres something about orchestra that makes me chill back and relax for a while.

Orchestra as in classical orchestra?  Because I grew up on that stuff - I can give you TONS of amazing recommendations that you might not have heard before.  I haven't heard very much dubstep orchestra!

Here are a couple INCREDIBLE classical orchestral pieces you may not have heard before~

Claude Debussy ~ Impressionist composer (think of the painter, Claude Monet, but in music) - this piece is called Fetes ("festivals" in French)

Alexander Borodin, Russian composer, part of the famous "Russian 5" ~ This is the Polovetsian Dances from the opera Prince Igor (no vocals here though)

And I have about a million more where these came from :D

Really quick, yet heavy stuff us my preference.

There are a lot of artists who do this very well, but this video should be a sample of what I think is awesome.

I always did have a deep hatred for Dubstep all of those annoying bass drops just make my ears bleed out like crazy, though honestly I don't think that the guy who prefers IDM, Ambient, Downtempo, and Trip-Hop would be too fond of Dubstep music, I'll admit that Skream and some of the other old school guys are okay, though either way I'm not really big into them. The only Dubstep musician who I actually do like is Blackmill, and even with Blackmill it's still only an occasional listen.

Anyways I might as well leave a spoiler of artists and bands that I like, just to paint a picture of what I prefer:

Aphex Twin

Boards of Canada

Portishead

The Knife

Fatboy Slim

Autechre

Amon Tobin

The Flashbulb

Orbital

Underworld

Deadmau5 (Project 56/Get Scraped era)

Halcyon441

Nine Inch Nails (Yes they do count)

How To Destroy Angels

Infected Mushroom

Flying Lotus

Air

M83

The Prodigy

Radiohead (They count as well)

The Crystal Method

The Chemical Brothers

Richard Devine

Venetian Snares

Daft Punk

Depeche Mode

Squarepusher

Death Grips

TapsFTW

Brian Eno

Massive Attack

Crystal Castles

Do be honest, I don't like dubstep. There is but one dubstep artist I enjoy listening to, and that's Blackmill. I'm more of a fan of Trance and Electro-house.

Best dubstep is the old-school stuff. Skream and Burial are the two biggest names for me. I wish Skrillex and his numerous clones never caught on in the scene.
