private Adventure to Atlantis

Miss Light Diamond

Recommended Posts

Frostbite eventually found herself outside the mess hall, and quickly darted inside and headed straight for the counter, no caring to look for an available seat or even pay any attention to who was in the hall. Her eyes scanned the table top for some variation in food - it seemed noodles and bread were the only things available, but that would do. They followed somewhat with her diet, at least.

Despite her aching hunger, she resisted the urge to pile the remaining food onto one mountainous mass on her plate, and instead took a small portion to...well...where exactly was she heading?

Looking around the room, now her food was in her mouth - on the plate, but still in her possession, she noticed a single table near the corner of the room with nopony sat there. "Fank Sheleshtia" she mumbled, before hopping over and placing her food down.

"Huh...I wonder where Lila got to..." she thought, before immediately diving messily into her food in a shameless gorging.

He chuckled. And since he had no questions, he shook his head and left for lunch as well. Without realizing it, he was eventually again next to Cascade.

"Hey. I don't know if you know, but honestly, I don't-"

He looked over and realized he was talking to Cascade and not another member of the crew.

"- I don't care for Atlantis. I know it isn't there, so I'm honestly just here to expand my work experience."

Cascade shrugged as she entered the cafeteria, trotting alongside that glorious... No, she had to keep her mind out of that dangerous corridor. Anyway...

"Yeah, looks like we're of the same mind," Cascade mumbled, as she grabbed a food tray. The meal looked quite good, but Cascade knew from experience, that the farther they got into the trip, the worse the food would get.

@@Steel Accord,

"Hah! Fancy that. I always thought was the reason." Giant felt his stomach hint at potential hunger, but you know what? He didn't feel like bothering with solids this afternoon, especially mess hall solids. "Oh, those were the days. You'd be shocked how many ponies are, in fact, personal friends one or both of the Princesses. And a shame, too; the Princess must be so disappointed that we have to turn them all away at the gates for coming with no invitation outside of court hours. At least since then the lawn ornaments have stopped disappearing." He shook his head, grabbing a couple of decanters and pouring a pair of glasses of Applejack Daniels Light; nothing with a particularly important year, just...provisions, as it were. "Or the captain of the guard. Seriously, you'd think ponies would know better. A Guardspony can tell who's a personal acquaintance of Shining Armor."

He took a sip and paused. "That's how you see Canterlot, hm? I must say...I never really thought of it that way, even though I grew up there. Once you get out a ways, you know, it's all 'a reputation for snobbery' this and that. Leastaways towards Appleloosa and all my stations. I never gave it full credit, but I guess I was always a little conscious of looking like a snob in those days...You don't get many ponies who travel and keep the mannerisms. Fewer still that are proud of them." He pushed a glass across a card table. "Drink?"

"Well, then. It's good to know that at least one other pony seems to think the same way. It'd get boring, tedious, and annoying if everyone here trusted deeply in Atlantis."

He sighed, grabbing a food tray and loading up with some food. He made sure to get some of the good stuff before they got further down, and before others got it.

@@Dawn Stripes,

"Afraid I don't drink, but I do catch your meaning. My family once took me to meet Princess Celestia after I got my cutie-mark. Dad was reading old legends to me at the time and I asked the Princess if I could be a knight." Steel looked upwards, as if trying to perceive the sun high above the metal and water. "Instead of laughing at my naivety, She looked at me and told me that knighthood was not something that could just be given, it must be earned. I swear I could hear the sincerity in Her voice. That's the lesson I believed the Princess taught me that day. Sincerity. I mean what I say, and I say what I mean; without hesitation or irony.

Giant shrugged and downed the other glass himself. The story rang with truth, and not just because the colt claimed to be the next element of Honesty. "I got to meet Princess Celestia," he murmured. "Once." He looked up from his glass with a shiver. "Tell me, Steel, did you....feel it?" He opened his mouth, but--Giant was no storyteller--utterly failed to find words.

Ocean eventually got to the bridge and happily ran over to the window. Just as she got there, the sub turned on the massive flood lights which lit up almost all of the ocean bottom.

Ocean's smile slowly faded. Not one part of the bottom didn't have a sunken ship...there were quite literally piles of old ships that had sunk years ago...some recently others looked to be pirate ships...one was called the Asylum or something...looked to be a pirate ship.
Ocean gulped and quickly opened her book, flipping through the pages.

@@Dawn Stripes,

Steel nodded solemnly. "I think I was too young to really understand at the time, but yes, I felt it. It was Her eyes. They were not the eyes of a young pony. At the time, I thought they were the same kind of eyes that my grandmother had. They were old eyes. It was only when I grew up that I realized how old. That those eyes saw real knights. I'd like to think she saw somepony like that in me. Probably not, but I will be!" Steel declared as he leaned on the deck railing.

"One thousand years ago, there was a stallion named Red Pommel, and he was the Master Swordpony. It was an actual knightly rank and title, bequeathed to Equestria's greatest fighter and the Princesses' personal champion. Of course, the position has become obsolete over the centuries." Steel looked to the old soldier. "I will correct that. One day, I shall claim that title as mine own. When I see Her Majesty again, it will be as the knight She saw me as. That's why I'm here Sergeant." He lifted his wing to show his cutie-mark. "A story-teller I am, but I believe my destiny is to do more than create stories with my mind, but also with my actions. That one day, I will be more than the writer, but the protagonist." Steel said this with certainty and tried to contain his volume so as to not sound like a boast as much as it was his mission statement.

"It looks pretty empty, though. Not much lives this far down. I'll have to look really carefully if I want to find anything." Indeed, the only thing she could see out the window was a fluttering marine snow.

Feather noticed that Dox had turned away, apparently not wanting to take part in the conversation. For the first time she noticed his own cutiemark; a question mark.

Torn between fascination and being polite, Feather was still struggling internally with the massive (to her at least) problem of how and if she should ask what was wrong when the intercom announced that the sub had reached the sea floor.

Well that's exciting!" She commented with a little too much enthusiasm in an attempt to change the subject.

"Actually I think my watch will be starting soon, so that'll be interesting."

"True, if the civilization isn't destroyed by the TNT by some kooky chance.", Fuse said, sipping from his water.

@@Steel Accord,

(OOC: I brought provender, you didn't want any. I even set up a fire leagues under the ocean)

Giant nodded solemnly, receiving the impression--although maybe it was just the same feeling this colt gave to every other word--that he was receiving words of importance.

And felt he had to respond with some of his own. Giant downed another glass of alcohol before putting the bottle away to make sure he didn't drink to much. "I know I said I read a page out of the Good Picture Book now and again," his eyes suddenly drifting to the mostly-decorational bookshelves overhead, "I really only meant one passage."

"The Giant clan was always loyal to Luna, even during the Lunar rebellion," he reminisced, losing track of the fact that he was talking as he flipped through books of maps and oceans. "To most, we're the disgraced Giant clan like half the other Canterlot nobles--these days, we prefer to believe we always knew we'd get our Princess back. Heh. Old family joke, really."

Now where would it be, there had to be at least one in any library put together in Equestria, even in between these atlases--hah. Giant found what he was looking for and brought it to the card table.

"But believe it or not, not all the family ways were for me. That's why I wriggled out of swearing life allegiance to the Sister of the Night back in my schoolfoal days."

He coughed. "I've never thought of myself as a religious pony, actually. Family was, of course. But I got out of there soon enough, and in Saddle Arabia they don't give a flight feather about the Princesses, pardon my language."

The copy of The Royal Pony Sisters he'd plucked from the library was big enough to cover half the card table, almost shoving off his decanters. Its binding was immaculate and ornamented, with small fake gems set into the edges, and golden lettering. It was an updated version, too--had the six Ponyville bearers of Harmony and everything.

"But....well, one time in Desert Storm I was in a real dark place. I knew for sure I was going to die, actually. So...while I was waiting for that to happen, just for something to read, I fished out a copy of this book that'd fallen out of my--dead squadmate's packs." He brushed a hoof over the cover as if he needed to explain. "It wasn't this nice of course. It was tiny, beat up. Pages were falling out."

This particular volume looked like it hadn't ever been read. Giant wouldn't have been surprised. He hadn't read one of these since...forever ago, practically. But his hooves still brought the book up on his spine and found the page he was looking for immediately--one with no picture and just a few words. "I grabbed it, and the first thing it fell open to was this passage."

He cleared his throat.

"Harmony looked on Equestria, and saw suffering;

She descended among her ponies, and taking the light of the Sun, wore the form of a mare;

That all might see and believe, within Her glance, that they were cherished."
Giant found himself stopping, letting the quiet of recorded fireplace sound settle across the room.

He was probably talking too much anyway. "Anyway, I've been for Celestia every since," he finished. "Right then and there I promised I'd never quit fighting so long as I had a hoof to call myself a live earth pony, and I never have. That's what I'm doing here, and I'll keep doing it until they put me in the ground."

He scratched a faded mane. "Guess you could say it's not all that different. I never got to swear any oaths or anything like that, though."

Dox noticed Feather staring at his cutie mark. His face flushed red and his forehead perspired. Suddenly, before any questions could be made, an announcement rang over the intercom. "Well, I suppose that means that my job now is to clean up." He quickly gathered all the dirty dished and ran to the kitchen.

@@Dawn Stripes,

Steel was deeply moved by the old soldier's words. He may not have shared his piece lightly. Then again, in vino veritas. Still, Steel's respect for Giant grew. Steel felt the familiar pattern of his character reassert himself, like Fancypants and his father before, Steel found an older Stallion that he felt a strong kinship with. Friendship knew no age apparently. Steel had already pledged his service to the Master Sergeant, so doing so again would be redundant. Still, his resolve to uphold his oath bolstered, and he felt the need to endear himself further to the wise and heroic pony.

"Hey!" He said. "If this sub has a firing range, why not show me your skill in marksmanship?"

(Well...not posted for long enough...)

Lifting her face from her plate, Frostbite seemed to have more food around her mouth than in it - and that was definitely more than the sparkling plate on the table. She took one look around the mess hall, seeing almost everypony having a good conversation as they ate, and some ponies walking around, leaving the hall, and one in particular who seemed all too eager to get out of the way. She chuckled to herself at the commotion around her as she looked at her empty table happily, and licked the food from her muzzle.

"Finally, some peace..."

It didn't take her long to get up and out of the mess hall however, and within minutes she found herself pushing open the door to her room and collapsing on the bed once more - leaving the door wide open. Kicking off her bracelets and once again throwing her mane back for what felt like the 50th time that day, she quickly fell asleep without a care in the world.

"I don't actually think--"

The submarine shook, and a voice came over the speakers. Prepare the torpedoes.

"Come on!" Giant knocked over the card table as he bolted from the room, sliding across the hallway at the tail end of the Defender's list. He scrambled down the first set of stairs to the torpedo bay, grabbed the station officer by the tail and pulled him along, with his radio, while Giant sat in a large chair near the center of the control area.

"You have set one loaded in ready position?" he demanded.

"Yes, Sargeant, just as you requested."

Sarge pulled a pin in the shape of a lightning bolt from his beret and kissed it. "Thank you Skippy! I'll never call you stupid again."

"I want hooves on sets two to four. Grab the first nine ponies down here and get them a torpedo." With a couple flipped latches, the first of two control scopes was pulled down from the ceiling. Giant turned a couple dials as he pressed his muzzle to the visor, and the screen within lit up with a series of red and green dots. He pressed a button and the screen changed to show thermal imaging--nothing but the shapes of fish appeared.

He spoke into the station officer's chest. "Captain! Miss Wind! What are we looking at out there?"

Dox was washing all of the dishes and rying them, trying to think of a way to explain to EVERYpony about his eye when suddenly the entire sub shook. He took a tumble and his right side of his face was grazed by a knife that was sticking out. It scraped his cheek and right above his eye. He put his hoof to his cheek and ran out of the kitchen and mess hall, all the way to the bridge. "What in the name of Equestria was THAT!?" He shouted. The blood had soaked his eye cover, which now clung to his face.

(( OOC- ANyhow im back, so I can now respond to messages~ ))

-A short while back-

In the midst of all eating, Moon heard the intercom go off to announce that they had arrived at the bottom of the ocean. In turn of this, she decided afterward to finish her meal and go up to the bridge again to look at the waters underneath.

With that, she gave a 'goodbye' from a gesture to Feather and walked away.

-Now-

To be honest the sea creatures at the bottom were both scary, but amusing to the mare. It was a nice experience to see ones that were skeletal, and some that were lit up.

But all was interrupted by another intercom. One that changed her thought patterns to a fast situation. And following that, she flew to the center of the bridge to wait.
