Amnesia :Machine For Pigs Discussion Thread

So If you were drawn here by your knowledge of Amnesia as the greatest horror game to exist (so far) then I applaud your taste in games. Machine for pigs is shaping out to be the next best horror game to exist as an indirect sequel to Amnesia:Dark Descent by Frictional games.

A Machine for Pigs puts players in the shoe's of Oswald Mandus, a wealthy industrialist in London. After returning home from a disastrous trip to Mexico, Oswald is hit by fever and dreams about a mysterious dark Machine. When he regains consciousness, he hears the roar of an engine and the machine starts up....

As in the style of Amnesia:Dark Descent, players will have no way of attacking the monsters within the game, only to run, hide and evade these creatures...lest you be torn apart...

this is seriously what horror games should be about..atmosphere and an enemy you have no defence against...

Here, have a trailer...

Now get discussing...what exactly are you/aren't you looking forward to about a new amnesia/horror game such as this?

Actually that looks quite good, I've heard a bit about the Amnesia games from a few ponies in my meet up group, and I have been intrigued by what I've been told about them, so I may just go and get them

I do admit, this game does look really good for being a horror game.

I've watched Pewdiepie play Amnesia: The dark descent many times with different mods and every time it scares me in a way. These games are just so amazing its even hard to come by something even comparable to this.

If I ever do get the money, then im buying this game off steam in a heartbeat.

Nice font choice for your main post!

I played through the first Amnesia and loved the atmosphere and puzzles. They were very logically thought out and made the game very enjoyable. I'm looking forward to playing A:MfP!

This is so great. We have all these awesome Survival Horror games to look forward to like Outlast, The Evil Within and this!

I loved Amnesia: The Dark Descent. I am very excited for a machine for pigs, mainly the story. That's what I brought Amnesia for anyway. I love how you can't fight against the enemies in Amnesia and you have to run. Oh man, running away from the brute in The Dark Descent was so scary, but fun at the same time.

What i'm looking forward to the most in a machine for pigs is the story and the new enemies.

Amnesia has always been the best horror game in my opinion, mainly due to the atmosphere, and if you watch the trailer for Machine for Pigs, I can tell the next one will be even scarier... I already jumped when I heard the monster noises in the trailer xD

Very stoked. Hopefully it won't be too similar to Amnesia (am I the only one who thinks it's overrated? :P) and maybe more like the Penumbra games.

One game that looks like some competition for Machine for Pigs is Outlast. Anyone heard of it?

I've looked at Outlast and it seems freakin awesome, It's one of the only other horror games that I think I'll really enjoy when it releases. Amnesia:A Machine For Pigs uses some mechanics from Dark Descent but they also removed some and added new ones. The AI is apparently more unpredictable, so hiding in closets may not cut it this time :3

Frictional stated the project was designed to give Amnesia veterans a similar but also different experience...so that the game can be clearly identified as amnesia...but a new kind of amnesia.

And it appears to be ALOT scarier then Dark Descent :3

I personally believe Amnesia is one of the most overrated horror games of recent memory. The entire sequence of the game is one long scripted event, and once you realize this all of the fear goes away. For the most part, Gatherers only spawn when certain events are triggered by the player. I will say that Amnesia does provide a great sense of atmosphere and immersion, and because of this the game is definitely 'creepy' at times. However, the game is not scary. Amnesia is an unfortunate victim of being a decent survival horror game that was given far too much attention by overreacting YouTubers.

Amnesia has been way too...well it's been overused, but it still is my all time best horror game. All horror games are technically scripted, so thats not really a good argument to throw at it, and sure after a while, the game doesn't scare you anymore, it's because it becomes predictable.

However...Machine for Pigs A.I have been designed to be more unpredictable and the game itself is at least 3 times better then the original Amnesia from the looks of it, so i wouldn't be surprised if it becomes the scariest game of this year.

The issue is that it was never scary to begin with, in my opinion of course. Also, there are definitely horror games out there that do not rely on heavily scripted events. Many of the creepier elements of the STALKER series can be attributed to the randomly generated open world. Also, Naughty Dog's upcoming survival horror game, The Last of Us, makes use of both an adaptive AI that reacts to the player's approach to combat or stealth, as well as randomly generated enemy spawns. Even Left 4 Dead, while not technically a horror game, makes use of a great in-game mechanic (The Director) to randomize enemy spawns as well as other elements of the game to maximize player tension. These are things we need to start seeing more of in horror games.

I am not going to dismiss A Machine for Pigs until it has been released and I have had a chance to play the game myself, but I am very skeptical based on what I have seen of it thus far. Also...pigs. I cannot even begin to conceive any ways to make a pig frightening at all. ._.

What you just said is a fact, i personally find other games creepier than this one.

However, as far as i heard, AAMFP is being developed by another team (The Chinese Room), and published by the one who made the first game (Frictional Games) so there might be huge improvements to the scaryness, or there might be not, we'll see.

Maybe it will get a lot of attention because it's a good game, and if it's going to be a bad game it's still going to be very overrated because of the hype of lots of youtubers seeking for subscribers.

I still have yet to play the first Amnesia game (due to not being able to afford the right type of computer) but I love watching the Let's Plays of it. I'm looking forward to finally being able to play the series. Machine For Pigs looks even more brutal and scarier, judging by the pictures and previews. Once I get these games I'm gonna try getting my fiance to play it with me. So far he hasn't been scared of any kind of game or horror movie. I'm looking forward to seeing his reaction to Amnesia, although I won't be surprised if he still isn't fazed by it.
