Why RD got so much hate recentely?

I always considered Rainbow Dash to actually be the most liked character in the whole show. Only rivaled by Twilight and Luna besides them I really never saw any bronies hating on RD. Heck! Applejack and Rarity were abd still are the least favorite of the Mane 6 while Rainbow Dash and Twilight have been fan favorites since the show premiered.

Personally, before season 3 she wasn't really a likeable character to me. I wasnt a fan of her personality or rash decisions/ actions. Seeing her I'm season three ( and a lot of fan speculation) I see why a lot of people like her and I like her alot more too.

Well one reason for me disliking her was season 2, because all of her negatives (like her shallowness and her arrogance) were amplified while her positive weren't.

The second reason would be her fans, RD fanboys have to be the most loud, obnoxious, annoying and downright mean bronies I've seen in the fandom (next to Luna fanboys), and I rely stop me from liking her as much as I use to.

hey, that's not fair to dash. You can't blame her for her fans as one of your reasons for disliking her. Besides, I'm a huge rainbow dash fan, and I'm not usually like that. Plus, I don't really think she is shallow, arrogent yes, but not shallow. Plus, she got a lot better in season three. And I still think most dash hate comes from jealousy of other fans/angry fluttershy fans. Edited by drocsid-soahc

Fluttershy? I was more upset when she dropped Pinkie in "Too Many Pinkie Pies" :P

I honestly hated Sleepless in Ponyville and Wonderbolt Academy, I don't hate Rainbow Dash, but I liked her way more back n Seasons 1 & 2

RD hate? I haven't noticed any hate toward RD recently. I think she's only getting better as the show progresses. Even though some people seem to dislike it when she's boastful, you have to admit that that's also a part of what makes her so lovable. She still retains her signature flair, but you can tell she's changed a lot for the better at the same time. It's interesting how Scootaloo thought Rainbow Dash would make fun of her for being scared, but in the end Scootaloo was dead wrong. Rainbow Dash thought no less of Scootaloo, and even admitted to being scared herself. It really goes to show that Rainbow Dash may seem like a brash and arrogant pony at first, but if you take the time to get to know her you soon come to realize that she has a heart of gold.

tbf, each of the mane 6 have their fair share of bad fans. A good chunk of Pinkie and RD fans can be very obnoxious, rude and immature, likewise many Rarity and AJ fans(at least from a lot of the ones I've meet) can be incredibly smug and snobbish, elitist pricks, Fluttershy fans can be incredibly ovrprotective and in some cases even violent, and Twilight fans can be very whiny(especially in wake of recent events). Obviously I'm not saying this for all fans obviously, but I think it would be a good idea not to go around putting down fans of a character you're not fond of especially when your favorite's fanbase probably isn't much better

As for the topic, like I said in a similar thread, it's not that she gets a lot of hate, but rather that haters are incredibly loud

while rainbow dash is my least favorite of the mane six, and i don't care for her "i'm cooler than you" kind of attitude, i haven't noticed any increase of her obnoxiousness or any increase of fan hate. i actually do think her attitude is slowly improving over time.

although it does make me like her slightly less when her fans diss other ponies in her name.

People don't like her because she's arrogant, sometimes to an unreasonable degree, and is often only able to think about herself and how "awesome" she is while not having any kooth. You're right, though: they actually did develop her character in more recent episodes and she is a good character a lot of the time.

The bolded also misses some big things:

1. She's mostly rightfully arrogant.

2. Her need to tell herself(and to have others tell her) that she is awesome stems from the fact that Dash actually is lacking in self-confidence. Without it, we've seen her break down at several points.

Okay, but she still exhibits those traits nonetheless and that can cause others to dislike her. I'm not saying these traits are unjustified or that they make her a bad character, but they're not desirable traits no matter the context. If someone you knew was arrogant and, at times, classless, you probably wouldn't like them very much either.

I really used to hate RD but she has matured a lot over the past two seasons and has become one of my favorite characters. I don't believe she's the best character because that honor goes to Fluttershy *cough*. I don't see what you mean by her getting hate though. She still seems pretty popular to me.

Oh, I know. I just wanted to point it out. I'm easily annoyed with arrogant people when they do not back their pompousness up with their ability.

I see quite the opposite actually. I've come to like Rainbow Dash a lot more this season actually. I haven't see anyone bash her for a while.

I really understand the hate but, since she has matured but still has the competitive spirit she still deserves fans. Like the rest of the Mane 6, there will come a time when a person hates one of them. It is just how it is sometimes, I'm not affected by the hate anyway.

Cause people are jealous that she probably had (objectively) a better season than any other character img-387689-1-5e7kmu.png

(Cue neighsayers in 3...2...)

But honestly, I haven't seen an inordinate amount of hatred lately, probably less than usual really. I think most would agree that she did have a great season, but some likely still find her personality or actions grating, or are upset that she recieves so much attention from the fanbase.

Yes I think she did have a great season but I though Pinkie Pie was just HILARIOUS in season 3. I mean she like every time she opened her mouth it was funny. Naught trying to be a neighsayer just throwing in my two cents.

my guess is that she's gotten TOO good - it's been a while since we got a good look at her flaws (insensitivity, arrogance, competitiveness) and she's becoming more flat as a result. I loved both RD episodes in S3, but yeah, I think it was a little much to get her as a sister to Scootaloo and closer to the Wonderbolts. This is a turning point for RD, where either she's going to face new challenges or go into Mary Sue mode.

Rainbow Dash? Getting hate?
Mister, she just recently dethroned Fluttershy as my favourite pony.
Absolutely no hate here, my good man.

Most the time if somepony is mean to Fluttershy  then they deserve of course deserve hate and was asking for it when they did whatever they did... but rainbow dash had good intentions, which was to make the crystal ponies happy to prevent great evil from enslaving there entire race ... again. so i think she deserves a bligh . but  a prevention of the enslavement of an entire race is pretty much the only acceptable excuse for ever being mean to fluttershy.

You are the first person I have ever seen actually say that about Rainbow Dash so I highly doubt that people hate on Rainbow Dash because she is "too good" it is actually Applejack and Twilight Sparkle who have been criticized as being too perfect though with Applejack I have only seen one person ever even think that Applejack is close to a Mary Sue while alot of people think Twilight is or is close to it. I think Applejack being too perfect is as Applejack herself would put it "ponyfeathers" but as for Twilight she is no Mary Sue but if twilicorn is botched any further than it has already been than she will be, luckily there are still plenty of ways they could fix it so we will have to see what they do in season 4.

Rainbow Dash along with Rarity are probably the least likely of the mane 6 to go into Mary Sue mode, from the start Rainbow Dash along with Rarity have had the most glaring character flaws of them which has brought them quite a bit of hate. Rainbow Dash has matured the most of them in season 3 but that is in large part because she needed that growth the most, it is a shame that Rarity got ignored that season though. The only Mary Sue like trait I can think of is the fact that she is now able to pull off a Sonic Rainboom at will but that took alot of training and luck to pull off so it is a bit more forgivable so long as they don't overuse it.

I keep saying that too, not in this thread at least, but i agree with him.

I loved her arrogant personality, while people might not agree with me, that's what got us to love her in the first place, i love it when i see characters develop and mature over the series, but seriously, all that sudden love and maturity came out of nowhere, literally, no where

It was always there it was just buried under a lot of arrogance fueled by her own insecurities, the arrogance is still a part of her but it is becoming a bit more balanced with her becoming more mature and slowly but surely less reluctant to express her softer side. I agree that arrogant characters if done right can be very good character and Rainbow Dash was and still is a good example of this. She may be the most complex of the mane 6 characters she is arrogant which is false confidence but she also has plenty of real confidence as well, Rainbow Dash is starting to become an example of a character who gradually overcomes arrogance to gain more and more real confidence which makes for compelling storytelling and a good role model for the young children and even some of the adults watching this. It is this character development which has bumped Rainbow Dash up to a pony I once considered as slightly overrated to my 2nd favorite pony.

I'm not too sure about that. Faust mentioned that RD wouldn't be a very good big sis to Scootaloo prior to SiP, and I'm inclined to agree with her, or at least I was. I still love SiP, because, well, D'AAAAAWWWWWWWWWW, but it was a huge leap to take with the character who a few episodes before was forcing Fluttershy into a jousting match. Sure, there's always some question of how much of RD's tough attitude is an act, but this is the pony who challenged Discord to a fistfight and broke into a hospital to avoid an awkward chat with her friend. And she's the only character that hasn't shown flaws in season 3. Twilight is still a control freak, Applejack tries too hard, Rarity's aloof, Pinkie can't control herself, and although Fluttershy's come a long way, she's still too mild. RD... there's really nothing bad to say about her. When she realizes she scared Scootaloo, she comforts her. When she realizes Lightning Dust is dangerous, she stands up for her friends. There's no lesson learned, no moment of self-realization.

She's not a Mary Sue yet, it's just a trend I've noticed.

I wouldn't say that caring side came out of nowhere. Look at Hurricane Fluttershy, she offers support to a very intimidated and scared person in her own Dashish way.

And I wouldn't say that she didn't show flaws in Season 3. She still isn't the quickest to notice when something is wrong and that someone needs her help (the jousting and Scootaloo), she's still pretty full of herself, and I'd say that there was a moment of realization with Lightning Dust. Beforehand, she was genuinely thinking that Lightning Dust's actions were what the Wonderbolts wanted, and any doubts or worries that she had were just the jealousy and arrogance that she knows she has to battle, and eventually she had to confront the fact that (though she misinterpreted what Spitfire wanted), if the Wonderbolts want behavior like Lightning's, they are wrong for it. She still had to fight some self-doubt there.

She's developed a ton, but she's far from flawless.

I honestly don't really think it's a problem. Season 3 just came from the heels of season 2, a season in which, if I remember correctly, a good majority of the fandom was angry about it focused too heavily on Rainbow's negative traits(which is mostly untrue imo, but my point still stands)
