music Celtic Music Thread

Recommended Posts

So, I have this intense and unexplained love of Celtic music but I'm not very good at finding music in a genre I know nothing about so I'm hoping for some discussion and recommendations on it.

I've only really heard stuff on Youtube like a few Celtic Woman songs, The Blood of Chu Chalainn and Cry of the Celts and a few others.

Before anyone asks: No, I don't have any Gaelic in me at all (as far as I know) but I still have an amazing fascination with the music and some of the lore even. The Druids are coming!

About damn time somebody made this thread! laugh.png

Might as well start off by sharing one of favorite celtic songs, O'Sulivan's March by The Chieftains. I'm not into any of that metal/rock type of celtic music, just the traditional type of stuff. XD

Celtic Woman is good, I've heard her "May it Be" that brought me to near tears ;_;

I think I've heard maybe one song that was mixed with rock and metal so can't say if I agree or disagree but I loved that song!

I love the bagpipes. They are one of my favorite instruments but the drums they use in the music really adds a lot of amazing emphasis. <3

Here's Blood of Chu Chalainn for those who don't know it!

Love it! For some reason I picture the title "Blood of Cthulu" XD

I do play the bagpipes, they are a grand instrument indeed!

Here's one of the most well known Irish melodies, Brian Boru's March

Hoo boy, just found this one. They definitely got the name right at least. I felt like there was a sort of dance with nature going on in my head when listening to this. I wish I knew the names of all the instruments used in this type of music.

I think the instruments in that are a dulcimer in the beginning with a drum (a bodhran), bells, and a tin whistle.

Adrian von Ziegler eh? Here's some of my favorite pieces of his

This one is rather beautiful:

Love the pipes in this one.

Oh man, both of those were amazing, Hist. Dear lord.....the creek and morning birds in the first one were amazing enough as they were and then Prophecy comes with it's dark tone..........then it really picks up and my blood starts pumping so bad I thought I was gonna die from overactivity. O_O

The harp and pipes in that song were amazing at the end there though.

This is another person I found at random a couple weeks ago: BrunuhVille. He does some pretty cool stuff too.

Here's one for you:

Planxty have been around since the '70s-they broke up a few times along the path before chucking it in for good in 2005.

<3 All of my love. Songs like this are proof that pipes are the best. I've finally come to realize why the soundtracks for Final Fantasy 9 and Crystal Chronicles are some of my favorites in all of gaming: Because they use Celtic music or something so similar to it that it gets the ol' feeling of it from me.

That's a nice little tune right there, I get the mood of a dance as well, it'd be great for an RPG!

This once a really nice upbeat one, but it really get's good around 1:35! Get's so good you can here a guy shouting from excitement yay.png

O'Neils march!:

@Thunderchild

That's a really nice tune, definitely going to my favorites, as well as the Blood of Chu.

Lovely use of the tin whistle in this! The Drunken Landlady (starts around 1:07) is just such an epic song!

Here's a good melody. I trust you've all heard of The Minstrel Boy? Ah well, if not you, you have now!

The first one is the Minstrel Boy, the second is Roddy McCorely, and I do not recognize the other two.

The banjo was the perfect choice for that jig. Really got me to dancin'!

Here's some more by BrunuhVille, some of that blasted Metal-Celtic you aren't fond of. There's also a non-metal version though!

Here's a beauty:

Sissell has an amazing voice anyhow-coupled with The Chieftans. Great version of a traditional tune. I seem to be paddling the slow boat here, but oh well.

The....the vocals were so beautiful. They made my heart skip a beat. <3

I've not heard of The Minstrel Boy but I did hear this one earlier. Good stuff.

Despite it being metal, that was in fact pretty good XP. I must go slay a dragon now!

Here's a good piece with the great highland bagpipes, this is what got me convinced to start taking lessons XP:

That's definitely inspiring stuff. Tricky but seems doable with practice and has a hell of a bounce to it as well. I'm off to do other things at the moment but I hope to come back to more recs from others! :P
