Comet Tail vs. Flash Sentry

Comet Tail and Flash Sentry are essentially Twilight's main non yuri pairings as of now. However, there seems to be a small debate on which is the better ship. So I want to know, who you would rather ship Twilight with?

 

Flash Sentry, seems like a nice guy and his romance with Twilight is based on canon information from the writers. That being said, he's still a rushed character. He resembles Shining Armor too much but this could be aplus since Twilight adores her brother. However, we already have Cadance dating a royal guard.

 

We know even less about Comet Tail and there's no canon that implies Twilight likes or even knows him. However, many fans argue that CT is a better choice because his name is closer to that of Twilight and he's implied to enjoy studying astronomy just as much as Twilight would. Fans also argue he would be less of a Gary Stu if developed.

 

I personally think Flash Sentry isn't bad at all. It's a cute pairing. However, Comet Tail sounds like somepony more akin to Twilight and would make a better option.

Wait, who is Comet Tail? I haven't heard of him before. Could you tell me who he exactly is?

Comet Tail is a background pony.

He doesn't have a defined personality nor an important role at all, although many fans see him as an ideal coltfriend for Twilight due to the fact his name relates to astronomy and is implied to like studying.

Flash Sentry has a head start over Comet Tail, since 1) he's met Twilight, 2) Twilight may be interested in him, and 3) Comet doesn't have an established personality, while Flash does. However, Comet x Twilight is definitely compelling.

 

Given Comet Tail's cutie mark, we can infer that he may be interested in astronomy, and may indeed be interested in science and academia as a whole. That automatically puts his and Twilight's interests in approximately the same area. Twilight would appreciate somepony who can not only keep up with her, but also offer ideas of his own. An intellectual equal, if you will. The thing here is that this area of overlap gives them tons of conversation potential, enabling them to get closer. Their common interests can provide the bond necessary for a romantic relationship to develop. 

 

As for Flash Sentry, he's a standard knight in shining armor type, not unlike Twilight's brother. However, Twilight's admiration for her brother (and others in her family who were in the Royal Guard) could be a major factor in how she views Brad. While pony Flash Sentry isn't the same person as his human counterpart, his proximity to Twilight (and Twilight's subconscious association of him with the human), doesn't rule out the possibility of a romance. 

 

Ultimately, I prefer an intellectual shipping over yet another knight and princess romance (though it's certainly possible for Flash Sentry to be a secret nerd).

I say no to Comet Tail as really any traits he has are those given by fans. I mean lets consider that perhaps he is an intellectual, that he has a talent for astronomy... what matters is personality. He could he distant and shallow, he could be overly focused on his work, he could simply not be interested in forming a romantic relationship with anypony, or he could already has a marefriend.

 

The only reason he can be at all a good fit for Twilight is if fans have him be, as he i a background pony with no backstory or personality... a blank slate.

 

Myself I would like to see either the show writers or the fans consider giving Flash Sentry a more fleshed out and detailed character, a stronger personality, and have him begin the process of forming a relationship with Twilight over many episodes but keep it in the bckgroynd no the focus. You see on thing fans don't realize is that putting any of the Mane Six into a romantic relationship doesn't mean that it needs to be made the focus or even ocershadow the friendship aspect the show. In real life, people date all the time without it being the focus of their lives, heck their are times friends can be suprised and say, "you're dating, since when?".

No, no though there may be fo some a certain charm or attraction to pairing up Shining Armour and Twilight Sparkle, even Celestia and Luna, incest relationships are ones people should never seriously consider.

 

My post was intended to be in support of Flash Sentry being with Twilight Sparkle.

Yeah, I haven't even heard of Comet Tail until today. Even when I looked at the picture I was like "the fuck is he?"

 

Also going with Flash Sentry.

 

And I will say this: If they took the time to develop Flash without him taking most of the focus he would probably be a good enough character to be rescued from the scrappy heap!

Flash Sentry is sweet, bold, and has more character development than Comet Tail, so I'd have to go with him. Give me more Comet Tail character development and I might revise my very short and choppy analysis, but as for right now, Flash wins.
