Equestria and Race

I can't help but feel that each species like ponies or zebra on the planet where Equestria is, seems to correspond to a race or culture of humanity.

 

This post obviously isn't intended to be racist at all nor does it probably reflect the views of the writers.

 

Anyway I've noticed that Zebras seem to be the Equestrian version of ancient or tribal Africans. I know that Zecora can speak for all Zebra's, but assuming all others of her species are just like her, then their accents are similar to what I've heard when watching documentaries from Africain tribes. Not to mention Zecora's hut is built and has artifacts similar to traditional Africain ornaments. What's funny is that Zebras come from Africa.

 

The buffalo also seem to be based off of native Americans. What suggests this is their way of having a 'chief' of a tribe along with tribal markings and clothing. Also, what's interesting is that buffalos come from America and were quite common until white immigrants started threatening them (just kidding.). What suggests this further is that the buffalo had conflicts with the cowponies of Appaloosa which mirrors the conflict between cowboys and natives.

 

The ponies seem to be based off of western European and American humans from mid-evil to modern times. This is evidenced by ponies beng the only species to have families with southern accents. Rarity and other ponies have french-british accents as well and 'normal' accents are largely 'Normal American' accents as well. The architecture of ponyville is also renaissance based along with Canterlot being largely medieval based. The royal guards look like old Enlighs Knights and Italian gladiators. What takes the cake is that Luna speaks like medieval Englishman.

 

Donkies, Mules and Griffins have a less defined race although Griffins seem to be slightly French based on Gilda's and Gustavo's name.

 

So when I imagine the world of MLP as humans, I'd imagine pony characters being caucasian, Zebras being black and Buffalo being native American (slightly tan).

i have noticed this as well it is probably just out of convenience just having the characters  based on different racial culture

What about Asians?  I mean, horses are also native to Asia, so would we be ponies too?  Or would we be tigers or something like that?

There might be other ponies from real life countries besides Saudi Arabia. There could be some from Australia, Canada, United Kingdom, Denmark, Africa, Asia, and other countries in Europe and North America.

You got it, but sometimes it isn't clear cut like our world.

 

For example:

 

Chinatown Merchant Pony

 

 

Traditional Chinese garb, but not "Asian."

 

Asian Pony

 

 

But in contemporary clothes.

 

Don't forget dialects. What would the equivalent be of a Pony Germany, where Photo Finish is supposedly from.

I am glad in a way that there are some hints and references to different ethnic groups but that it is not as clear cut because it really shows that they are all people, okay so not really people but sapient beings but I think you guys know what I am talking about. Another thing I have noticed in the show is that racism does seem to exist in the MLP universe, the ponies were all afraid of Zecora simply because she is a Zebra and alot of the ponies kept calling Iron Will a "monster".

Don't forget the Buffalo, which are obviously meant to represent Naive Americans.  The misunderstanding between them and the ponies is even similar to the Naive/White issues (though with less killing and torture).

it is almost st though she where Asian or Japanese     ( im a bad person for writing this )

This is true, but I doubt that Hasbro would intentionally make any extremely obvious references to race (Though the buffalo were a surprise to me)
